The main reason why Camp Lazlo feels like Spongebob is because Joe Murray’s first show, Rocko’s Modern Life, had Stephen Hillenburg (the creator of Spongebob) working on Rocko. Stephen ran Rocko in the show’s later seasons before making Spongebob. Some of the crew from Rocko helped with Spongebob and then went to work on Camp Lazlo when it was being created so I’ve heard.
@mqgTWO969 жыл бұрын
Great review. This show along with Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and Ben 10 are my favorite shows that started in the City Era. Joe Murray who worked on Rocko's Modern Life was definitely part of the reason this series was great. I guess Foster's Home and Camp Lazlo were so great because of creators and writers like Craig McCracken and Joe Murray who worked on previous shows. Don't care what anybody says about this show, it was one of my favorites of Cartoon Network's history. Imaginable characters. As for what you stated towards the end of the video, I actually don't remember people comparing this show to Spongebob so much, but I see where you're coming from, maybe because of creator Joe Murray working at Nickelodeon was associated with other folks who worked on Spongebob, also you're right Camp Lazlo was one of the shows from the City Era that was underappreciated. Foster's Home and Ben 10 were really the only real popular ones from the era that I really remember. The others weren't considered as good. Although out of all the underrated ones Camp Lazlo was definitely my favorite for many reasons. I honestly never cared for Juniper Lee, Squirrel Boy, or My Gym Partner's A Monkey _(just my opinion though)_. Class of 3000 was good too but around the time that show came out I was losing interest in the network, so I took that one for granted it was way too short. As for Cartoon Network today a lot of people tend to say that the shows that have debuted in the CHECK it Era like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Steven Universe, Clarence, and even Gumball too, seem to appeal to more audiences and are higher quality than the shows that debuted in the City Era, and yes I'll admit half of the shows I listed I do find to be better. But you'll even have some folks who'll go so far and say that the shows of today are better than the original Cartoon Cartoons from the late 90's and early 2000's, I'm not joking here. I know when you go to school, when you talk to your friends and family, when you ask them "What's your favorite Cartoon Network show". A lot of times the original shows will come to mind first. A lot of time acquired shows aren't going to come first to people's mind unless you remind them. Some people don't care if it's original or not _(like I do)_. Some people will say "well only original shows count, sorry but DBZ, Totally Spies, or Young Justice don't count", and believe it or not, Teen Titans wasn't even an original show, it was owned by WB, and yet people still consider that as a Cartoon Network show because it was so noticeable and popular. In all honesty I don't care whether it's an original show or NOT. It's called CARTOON NETWORK, I just want a BUNCH of cartoons on the network at once, whether it's owned by Cartoon Network Studios, Hanna-Barbera, Warner Bros, Funimation Japan, and heck even Teletoon from Canada if you have some good ones there. It doesn't matter to me, if it's on Cartoon Network, it's a Cartoon Network show to me. As long as it's NOT live-action, then it's fine. I want *variety*, and I'm sorry but Cartoon Network has no excuses for their pitiful repetitive schedule nowadays. A few good shows can't just save a network in a heartbeat. Likewise a few bad shows can't make or break the network. If you have tons of variety of different genres of shows, blocks, events, appealing bumpers & promos all on the network at once, you'll get tuned into it. I hate to say this, but honestly with the digital age we're living in now, I don't think Cartoon Network will ever go back to it's glory days again like it was in the late 90's, early 2000's, and mid-2000's during the Powerhouse & City eras, sadly.
@monstersreview9 жыл бұрын
mqgTWO96 Yeah. Definitely have to agree with you here. On the topic of it being compared to Spongebob, I've seen a tremendous amount reviews of Camp Lazlo on various websites that have compared it to Spongebob, and I could see why, as a bunch of Spongebob's original writing and creative staff worked on this show (Kaz, Derek Drymon, Merriwether Williams, Mark O'Hare, Kent Osborne, and the list goes on) and there are a few noticeable, yet minor comparisons that can be made. I really don't know why Cartoon Network ignores variety, and continues repetition. I've seen a bunch of critics attack them for it, and I constantly see fans mad about it, commenting on CN's social media pages. I guess they don't want to listen, and they're just making it worse by doing so.

Props to you for giving this show a review. I loved it so much, it felt like a Joe Murray cartoon through and through, and thus sort of carried over a bit of '90s style humor into the 2000s. Like you said, some of these mid 2000s shows get overlooked due to the '90s nostalgic wave, and I actually felt like this was the last totally solid Cartoon Network original show, with some good shows afterward, but not quite as good in all areas. Thanks, MonstersReview.

Good review! Camp Lazlo was one of my top favorites along with Billy and Mandy and Ed, Edd n Eddy. I agree, I think the show is really underrated and it's sad how people dislike it just because of the time it was airing. The creator of Spongebob actually originally worked on Rocko's Modern Life so I believe that's why Lazlo seems a bit similar to Spongebob. I hope Joe Murray makes a new show soon. His work that he post online is awesome.
@monstersreview9 жыл бұрын
TheCartoonkid2009 Thanks :) Joe Murray is definitely a talented dude. There's like 10 people who had worked originally on Spongebob that were working on Camp Lazlo's creative team, so that might be why also.

Man I loved Camp Lazlo so much! It definitely ranks high on my favorite Cartoon Network show list. I need to re-watch the series (somehow) to really choose a favorite, so I'll just ramble on about how ever many moments I can remember. 1. The episode where they made hotdogs is the reason I eat hot dogs with mustard. 2. I loved the episode where they had to make the go-carts. 3. Slinkman the dare devil. 4. The CN invaded one where the aliens try and steal the cheese. 5. Some hilarious CN City bumpers. (Specifically the one involving the movie theater.) 6. The one where Lazlo runs a play. (The part where Chip and Skip run from the frog always made me laugh. 7. Chip and Skip in general. 8. The one where Edward has to do all of these crazy things to ship himself far away from camp, only to be shipped to the girls only camp. 9. Samson being the most unlucky camper ever. 10. I remember something about a gladiator one. I don't remember too much about it though. 11. The pine cone sitting contest. (Never had a problem watching, but remembering it is making me uncomfortable.) 12. Scoutmaster Lumpus tries to join the Illuminati. (That should be the title of a Camp Lazlo YTP I really wish I remembered what the secret handshake was.) 13. The Scoutmaster in the sky. 14. Mr.FreezyBreeze 15. The Lumpus comet. 16. Commander Hoo Ha trying to get Edward to join the rotten tomatoes camp and the tomato wars that raged on. 17. Lazlo, Raj, and Clam treasure hunting. 18. Edward: Lazlo, what does the scouter say about Raj's swimming level? Lazlo: Raj is a larvae. Clam: larvae. 19. The evil monster made by the goat chef that eats every one in the camp. (My memories a bit fuzzy on that one.) 20. Lazlo, the king of chess. (Or Checkers.) 21. 3 Flash games on the Cartoon Network website. 1. recover the beanscout flag. 2. dodgeball with aliens. 3. cover the camp with paint. I can go on and on, and I might continue later but It's 3 am where I live so I'm going to go to bed. All in all, this show was great. It may not be remembered by most, but it's better to be a forgotten classic then to leave a terrible legacy.

I remember watching that Summer Look of 2005, never remembered the name of it but I liked how it was put together & getting so excited for the new shows advertised. I just sorta referred to it as that one thing Cartoon Network did advertising new stuff during the summer that one year. Big surprise that nobody knew what I meant. Anyways, I got excited with the behind the scenes look at Camp Lazlo that we got & how they gave us a look into the characters along with what their personalities were gonna be like. The idea of an albino rhino had me excited & I did enjoy Clam when watching the series. Camp Lazlo was a show that I followed but not closely, it was a fun show to watch when nothing good was on plus usually got me in a good mood when I was sad. Usually, I tried catching the new episodes & Cartoon Cartoon Fridays were always my favorite Friday night block but given different shows on other channels premiered Friday nights that were not to miss stuff, there were times when I caught the stuff later. Man, what I'd give for the ability to record my shows back then. You know what difficulty I had? I once tried flipping between channels to watch two things at once, wound up sticking with the Catdog movie, that was when that premiered, but I tried watching something else that was premiering that night at the same time. I forget what it was now. Anyways, most other stuff took priority over Camp Lazlo which was fine, I think I saw a good chunk of the series when it was still running. It's nice having that one show you were obsessed with & followed closely. I have multiple shows like that where I was absolutely obsessed, could not miss a new episode & would not stop obsessing over it. The biggest one for me was Danny Phantom, it was the first fandom I ever joined online, it aired at the time I needed it most in my life, I had been obsessed with the paranormal ever since I was 11 & I was 12 1/2 when the show premiered so it had great timing. That was the show for me & sadly it ended in 2007 which is when I first heard about Phineas & Ferb, I actually found out about it since I was trapped in a hotel room with my mom & sister who were watching High School Musical 2 & they kept going on & on advertising for Phineas & Ferb until they played the episode Rollercoaster. I fell in love with the series, I needed something else to latch onto since Danny Phantom had ended. I'm now addicted to Milo Murphy's Law, I so much adore the sense of humor in Dan & Swampy's work, what can I say? Bunsen is a Beast, saw the first episode & so far not impressed. I swear Nickelodeon drained Butch Hartman's soul but I'm not gonna be too quick to judge Bunsen, I guess I expect more from the guy who created Danny Phantom which still to this day is my all time favorite animated series. Honestly, I was more of a Nick kid than anything else but Cartoon Network had the best Friday night block. Although, Saturday mornings were Disney's time to shine on ABC with Disney's One Saturday Morning. I didn't always watch it, PBS Kids Bookworm Bunch.... it's sad for me to admit it but I very much enjoyed the stuff on there even though I was too old for it. What? Collin Mocherie voiced 2 in Seven Little Monsters, how on earth could I not watch it? I was a major Whose Line fan growing up. The other shows on the Bookworm Bunch honestly were fun & cute too, if I wasn't watching One Saturday Morning, I'd be there. Sometimes I'd go to Kids WB, others Fox but it was rare for me to hit Fox. Whatever channel played Sabrina the Animated Series on Saturday mornings, I'd watch too. I had a lot of backups in case of repeats. Rest of the week, usually Nickelodeon was my first choice but if something I didn't like was on there, I'd pick Disney, Cartoon Network was last choice since although I was very munch into a lot of the shows, I often times tried to spend most of my Friday nights watching it since nothing can beat Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, it was just the funnest thing. It's like a party that happens once a week. Definitely better than the old guy who would draw a random ball that had the show we were going to watch next on it. If you remember this, high five! Most of the people I know don't recall that. Usually I'd try to catch the stuff I liked Friday nights as it aired on CN so I didn't feel the need to watch the channel. I would for Boomerang from time to time or to catch anything I missed since I had to change the channel to catch another show. You might think I was a strange kid when I say this but I would sit in front of the TV Guide Channel FOR HOURS. When there wasn't something good on, I'd use that opportunity to study the schedules of the channels I liked so I knew what came on when. Yeah... I regret not just checking their schedules online but I was so wrapped up with the internet being evil & I needed a parent to help me even though I was like nine or ten. Anyways, I had a good handle on what to watch when so I was even better at not missing stuff although that got so much easier once I started using the internet. I still miss this one show that came on the TV Guide Channel called Seeing Stars where some guy hypnotized random people on the street. My favorite is when he convinced this person a cheeseburger was a bomb & she was trying to disable it. It's impossible to find this show anywhere which sucks because it was entertaining. Yeah, sad I can actually recall a show off of the TV Guide Channel, I think I'm the only person who has ever tuned into that station to watch the programming on it.

The guy who created Rocko's Modern Life is probably the sole reason why a lot of the episodes in the series have aged amazingly its not my favorite comedy but its got some exceptionally funny moments Like when Edward wanted to psychologically fuck with Lazo after he was pantsing everyone in the camp and he purposely sent Lazlo in a complete circle that leads all the way directly to Edward's Cabin And when Lazlo figures this out his brain short circuits because he somehow nonsensically went this convoluted route only to walk directly towards the person he was trying to avoid.

I actually went to multiple summer camps before, and they're not actually that similar to Camp Lazlo. I don't think any summer camp will allow campers to hang out in a cabin alone without a counselor. My camps would usually have about 10 campers and 2 counselors in each cabin. But we did go camping and that was fun. Lol, I remember one time while on my 2nd trip to a summer camp on the bus, one dude behind me who never went to a summer camp before was asking what it was like, and after I told him, he was like "Oh, I was wondering of it was something like Camp Lazlo."

Super random but do you know which episode it was when raj asked “how do I open the box?”
@monstersreview4 жыл бұрын
Not sure, you'll have to be more specific.
@ryanestabrooke1114 жыл бұрын
MonstersReview I think it was rahj and lazlo and they were playing a board game of some sorts and rahj said something along the lines of “How do I open the box?” I know it’s not very specific but I tried it’s been years since I’ve seen the show but easily one of my favorite cartoons of all time.

Actually, it was a puzzle box in the episode about Lumpus looking for a genius & he found Clam who messed up in the end by burping.

MonstersReview Hey Monsters do you think it will be cool if CartoonNetwork made a Award Show dedicated to CARTOONS I know the hall of game awards had nothing to do with Cartoon Network But if CartoonNetwork made Award Show for CARTOONS it will be about Animator's making the Best Cartoons in CARTOON History if people really like they're cartoons they will win Award for it I think it will be cool it will be either The Cartoon Network Award Show or The Cartoon Cartoon Award Show please make a video about this to I'm trying to give Christina Miller a good idea lol.

I LOVE THIS IDEA. But... I don't think CN has been running long enough and has that big of a pool of shows to pick from. Yes, 20 years is a long time, but it would still be limited. What they could do I think is have a very brief 1 hour anniversary special for the 25th anniversary in which they honor all of their shows. In fact, I'd like to see CN marathon the pilot of every single show they've ever made leading up to that, much like Nickelodeon did a few years back.

Cool review camp lazlo along with chowder the marvelous misadventures of flapjack and my gym partner's a monkey are my 4 favorite non cartoon network cartoon cartoons and to me I would have to love to see a crossover between the 4 shows that would have been awesome and amazing!!!!! What do you think of this as a crossover title: the marvelous gym misadventures of camp chowder.

Lazlo's voice sounded similar to Spongebob, i thought as a kid Lazlo was voiced by Tom Kenny too until i saw the credits.
@XDrang938 жыл бұрын
Did it turn out to be voiced by the same guy who did Rocko from Rocko's Modern Life?
@zackharrison62096 жыл бұрын
XDrang93 Yes. Rocko and Lazlo are both voiced by Carlos Alazraqui.

I'm new to you channel, and not sure if you do stuff like this, but can you do a sort of debate of Juniper Lee and American Dragon? I heard one of those shows copied the other, but I would love to see a comparison or debate of them :) I subbed to your channel, btw :)
@monstersreview9 жыл бұрын
+Nicholas Bloxxer Thanks! And maybe, I've seen that the shows share a similar fanbase, but never noticed any parallels between the two, since I never really watched either of them a lot. I'll look into it though!
@MechanicsStudents9 жыл бұрын
MonstersReview Cool thanks, but I will go ahead and name the similarities: Both are Asian Americans Both have a little sibling with half or the same powers they have Both are mentored by a grandparent that had the same power as them at one point Both have a colored streak in there hair Both have a bulldog with a foreign accent Both can't tell people about there secret And they both have powers based on some Chinese legends
