I have recently purchased a 12-Speed Record hydro disc groupset for my new custom steel bike and I have to agree that the new 12-Speed Record is a major step forward... Its performance is top notch and the ergo feel of the leavers is second to none!

Great video and thank you for the valuable and insightful views - I have the same groupset waiting to install on my next build, or to upgrade an existing frame - good stuff.

400,410 Or 430. Exige ?? On the hunt. I’m no Track driver. But fancy the carbon trinkets on 410. Never going to need performance but 430 is so damn tasty

What’s better... dura ace 9100 or Campy 12 super record?

I think the top three are all good, they feel different to ride so it is a choice thing. Saying that the new mechanical campy 12 speed is exceptional. It just works! Change is so smooth, doesn't go out of adjustment and gives great feedback.

It's a good thing for you that you are not using the Canpagnolo crankset. The new 12 speed chainrings are fastened with 8 bolts now instead of 4 bolts. And here is the problem. The big ring bolt to the crank arms but the small ring bolts to the big ring. There is not enough meat in the width of that chainring and these bolts have destroyed the threads and worked loose. I found this when the thing started creaking. Also, have you had to replace the rear shifter cable yet? Special cables now that are coated to provide better shifting between the smaller spacing tollarances. you used to be able to buy a shifter cable for around $8. Now you have to buy the entire set, front and rear cables with housing which costs $130. I was told at the shop he could not sell a single cable. Another example where the industry has lost their minds.

Yeah, have had to replace the cables, but it weared in the shifter. As to the crank, had problems with the 48-32 11 speed crankset with exactly what you said.

Jagwire Elite Ultra Slick cable should be also working as well.

Can 12 speed use shimano cassette and chain

One very disappointing thing that I found out when I got my Super Record 12 eps was the huge weight gain of the cassette relative to the 11 speed Super Record. It has very little to do with the additional sprocket and mostly to do with the largest 6 sprockets not being titanium anymore. Very very bad.

For everyone’s reference: 12 speed Super Record 11-29 cassette: 266g 12 speed Dura-Ace 11-30 cassette: 223g That’s a 43g saving (just in the cassette!) if you go with DA over SR. Why? Because Shimano retained the Ti sprockets for their top 12 speed group. Overall, there is a large weight penalty now going with SR EPS over DA Di2. Obviously, weight is not the only thing to consider, but it’s seemingly increased in importance with the migration to electronic shifting and hydraulic braking, heavier tubeless rims (over the superior tubular counterparts), and aero profiles working against you in the weight department.

Yes but the da cassette has been problematical in the past with broken carriers, not sure if the 12sp is the same

I think they did the right thing; I went back from titanium cassettes (Shimano and Recon) to steel; they wear out so much faster, steel is at least 2 to 3 times more durable, and then the higher price of titanium, makes no sense to save 40-50 grams

Listen Oz, there is no ‘i’ in Campagnolo.

I might say the "g" which should be silent but no "i". If you are referring to "campy" it is a very common short version of the product here in Australia

11 speed front dérailleur dropped the chain/went out of adjustment. Something was wrong there especially if it post 2015, I have found once set zero adjustment is required and no dropped chains ever with post 2015. A correctly positioned front dérailleur (Campagnolo alignment tool makes this simple) and lower limit screw should result in zero chain drop.

I had two bikes with the same record 11 speed revolution, both front derailleurs would creep outages. My bike shop did get it to stop moving with loctite but then they couldn't adjust it when we put on a different change ring. It always worked perfect when it left the shop. All i am stating is this is my experience.

@@waynosfotos this is quite odd I have 5 Campagnlo 11 speed mechanical groupsets and look after another. I fitted them all myself and have never come across this. I find the 11 speed requires precise initial setup and a very short bedin period. Then it's just forget about, never moves or requires adjustmen. I suppose the cold UK climate could freeze the screws in place LOL 😆 Regardless I find the 12 speed is easier to setup and adjust.

I’ve had the same issues with my 2016 Chorus Groupset. Far from fit and forget, always needs tweaking, and the shifting has never been consistently slick. This is despite it being set up by 2 different Campagnolo pro shop mechanics over the years I’ve had the Groupset. Recently bought a bike with Ultegra, which is v slick, quiet, and shifts better. Still gonna buy a 12 speed record Groupset though as I prefer the ergo levers and the look of the Groupset on my Italian bikes.

@@Lemond75 I run (fitted them all myself)Athena, the last 2 Chorus 11 speed groups, SR 11 eps and SR H11 eps as well as Chorus 12. All have been superbly smooth and reliable once set that’s it for thousands of miles. I even built up an Aluminium Bianchi with Veloce 10 speed for a work colleague and it did minimum 7k miles probably 10k miles without a single adjustment only new chains. All I can question is the quality of the “pro’s”.
7 mistakes with chain maintenance.
