Campagnolo Record 12 RIM and DISC brake review!

I just built a 2011 Cervelo RS 55 cm with Campy Record 12 sp Rim Brake with BB Infinite BB bearings 15lbs complete. I love the shifting precise and just works. I think that more people can work from the 2011 era frames with this new componentry get the precision and light weight and not spend more then $1800 and that is a lot less then 5-7K for a bike these days. Call me Old School, but this is an alternative worth looking into.

If Campagnolo don't change the current Chorus group to electronic I can see them flipping the market share in their favor. Lots of people still just want rim brake and no electronics. Campy is not a pain for me because I have lots of spares for the Centaur 10 group. I never saw the need for more gears than 10 so I bought hopefully enough parts to last the rest of my life. If it turns out I don't need all those parts I'm sure they will bring in a premium price on ebay.

Agree completely with regards to spare parts... I always have trouble buying anything when something goes wrong and then there is the waiting period... Eventually I will be moving to Shimano purely for ease of service. But man they really know how to make the handle bars feel incredibly comfortable!

I haven’t had an issue outside of a few days wait. My shifters…they’re a last of their kind model so if those go pop I’ll be screwed. Until then, perfect shifting!

You should know what the wear items are on your bike and buy the parts to keep for when you need them. I have spares of everything for my bikes so I am never in a position of waiting to ride my bikes. May seem foolish to some people but really it's not.

oof, me too! I was lucky enough to have the Alpe D'Huez for a couple of months. The Scylon was only for a couple of days but that thing blew my mind. If I had a massive budget and had to spend it on carbon fibre I'd get one of those. Amazing bike.

i love how the campa 11 speed now sells at bargain prices though. 750€ for a super record with h11 UT crank. Doesn't get any better for that price. Think i'll be going for the 1x conversion with aerocoach afterwards. Not having having to change any parts other then the groupset itself is a major +++. I have how shimano & Sram desperatly need their own freehub designs. it makes having multiple wheelsets an utter nightmare. if the 12sp bar end shifter gets released i only need to change the rear shifter & mech (and possibly my front chainring) to have a campa 1x12 for tt/triathlon.

Couldn’t disagree more when it comes to the rim brakes, I’ve always had Campag on my bikes until I got a Trek Emonda on Shimano, the first thing I noticed is how terrible their rim brakes are in comparison to Campagnolo rim brakes!

It's imperceptibly different which is a good thing. They've managed to add a cog and keep that really sweet and crispy shifting from the 11 speed generation. And hell yeah Mt Osmond is probably my favourite climb in Adelaide!

I'm about to the make the leap from 2005 Campagnolo Record 10 speed to 12 speed Chorus. How do you think the 12spd FD functions compared to the 10 speed FDs? FWIW, I've been completely chuffed with the 10 speed FD. I wish Campagnolo had the cash/resources to better penetrate the market and compete on more equal terms with Shimano and SRAM, but they don't. I don't think they're really interested in doing that. I think if they were, they'd make the change from a privately/family owned company to a public one.

Hey Robin, that's a tough one to answer. I've ridden 9, 11 & 12 speed Campagnolo but not the 10. I'd guess it'll feel familiar but perhaps a little slower than the 10 for FD shifting. I'd say the 12 is a very tiny amount slower than 11 speed. Again, haven't ridden 10 speed but that could be the case.

Hey Robin, I ride the 10speed Campagnolo Record and just bought a bike with Campagnolo Super Record 12 speed. Cant see any real differences of speed in FD shifting. It works perfectly but the chain on the 12 speed seems to be louder (maybe I need to recheck if its correctly ajdusted)

@@TimSchulzks, thanks for chiming in. I'm about to start the 10 speed to 12 speed swap. I've been ogling the 12 speed bits in their pre-mounting, pristine condition. What chain are you using? I'm unsettled as to chain choice. I wax my chains so I need to split them periodically.

Update: this is the worst groupset Campagnolo ever made. As already sayd I got a Campa Super record 12 speed and neither in the front nor the back it works well. Its much loader then the 10 speed, its slower in shifting and it feels just cheap. After 20 years of using Campagnolo, will try to sell this bike and go for Sram or Shimano. Someone interested in a Orbea Orca Aero with Campa Super record and Fulcrum Racing Quattro Carbon wheels? Cheers.

Shimano rim better than Campag! No way. Even 11 speed Potenza can out brake my Shimano discs, never mind rim (I own all).

the FD shifting is terrible, my 105 7000 shifts better and that's 1/4 the price

I’ve never had a shitmano shift the front cog correctly when I’m on my pedals. My 10 speed veloce does it 100% of time.

A lot of the shifting is in the chainrings. Modern Campagnolo chainrings are a bit stiffer, and are almost as good as shimano, which had, for much longer, stiff chainrings that shift really well.
