I ride it. Nothing but great. Handles well feels good. Faster than many other bikes people are riding. Cruises easily at 21-22mph. Comfortable going 35 downhill over bumps and grates. Consumer reviews are good.

I'm on my third set of Gatorskins. The first were the original and they gave about 6k miles. Second set were the Special Black Edition, 3600mi. Unsure of what I ran over but a chunk of rubber the size of a nickel had came loose and I could see the top layer of the tire was not bonded to the outer carcass. Bought the Gator Hardshell and stuffed in RideNow tubes. Bike feels livelier now. Never any high-speed cornering issues.

I've been out of serious biking for quite some time and I have to admit that I didn't realize that "Tubular tyres" were still in use. I honestly thought my still owning a tyre sewing kit made me a bit of a relic. The second thing I learned today is the term "Tubular", here on the west coast of USA we use to referred to these as "Sew-Up tires"... I'm not sure what they are commonly called here now.

Like you Wayno, I love my tubulars and I'm looking for some 26mm or 27mm tubs if they exist to run on a Time VXR with Campy Bora Ultras. I have tried 28mm with some clinchers but they are just a bit tight on clearance. Currently I am running Vittoria 25mm tubulars. Also it's not easy finding Veloflex or Challenge tubulars in Aussie. Really appreciate your knowledge on this stuff. Any clues? Thanks . . .

Cycling went backwards with discs. High spoke count needed, more wind drag from spokes and calipers, stopping power added but unnecessary, and more maintenance with the move to hydraulic. So many negatives. The advantage of riding in the wet does not matter for 98% of rides where rain is avoided and unpleasant anyway.

Also riding on the road is becoming too dangerous. Car density is three times what it was in the 1990s in all Australian cities.

Sorry, but in Australia? Immigration. Migrants have the jobs, income but are not spending on leisure or luxury goods. They are trying to get a foothold in Australia, particularly in the suburban property market. They are working on their feet. They are now doing a lot of the physically demanding, labour intensive jobs. They are also unhealthy. They come here to work, and for opportunities. Health and life expectancy are luxuries that we in Australia have grown up with - decades of public health education that we now take for granted. For example, they smoke. Young/middle aged Australians now pretty much tend not to. Cycling - certainly road cycling as a recreation, is expensive and physically taxing. It's also rather individualistic. Neither do they run. However, children of migrants are taking up tennis and cricket in droves, probably because of the later community and network benefits. These are, or will be the new middle class markets for cycling.

But please explain the runaway success of 99 Bikes? I wouldn't shop there if you paid me. But then I'm one of the older cyclist generation - I don't need to, and they don't want my business.

Hi! If I want to change tires before the race, can I leave the old tape? So that I don't have to re-glue it every time?
@waynosfotos3 ай бұрын
I would change the tape as well. I wouldn't risk old tape in a race. It is pretty quick to change.
@Michaelkrsk3 ай бұрын
@@waynosfotos you will have to buy a new tape every time. perhaps in this case it would be more convenient to buy glue and use it when changing tires. is it possible to apply glue directly to the old tape?

Do you clean the old glue off the rim?
@waynosfotos4 ай бұрын
Yes, if the glue has been put on previously, get an old rag and a hair-dryer or heat gun. Heat till the glue goes soft and wipe with the rag, move around the rim. It is not necessary to get absolutely all the glue off, but it must be only a film left. Thanks for popping bye. Enjoy

Fantastic. Never stopped riding tubulars, having started doing so around 82' 😅. Cool to see a video validate what I've stated for years i.e., it's easy to change a flat. (Guarantee the 30-something naysayers don't even use tubulars.) The old SOP I learned was, you glue the tires on your road training wheels "half-ass" like as in, it takes 5 minutes and it's therefore easy to change. (On an old rim with built-up glue, they will set very firmly anyway.) Race and track wheels get the full-welded procedure of course. Just used the sealant hack on a CX tire. Perfect. Tufos don't even have a latex tube so in that case you can pre-load the tire with sealant.

I've got some Shimano wheels from 2002 that has that type of nonsense on the drive side of the rear hub, which is incidentally radially spoked. I remember a picture of another model of Shimano wheel that had the spokes completely fall out. The bicycle industry has a habit of reinventing the wheel so to speak. Every fifteen years or so it all comes 'round again.
