Thanks for the video that was thorough and helpful. I’m rebuilding a Campy 8 speed chorus hub and it’s identical to the one you’ve got here, for those out there wondering. 9 x 1/4” balls non drive side, 10 x 7/32” balls on the drive side.

AW thank you this is the best I've found for campy 8 speed. I did the no brainer and disassembled whithiut criteria. I am now encouraged and ready to try. I have to convince my wife that I need to do it on my desk in the study... Go with it!

I want to thank you for your video I have a Mirage that has all sealed bearing. I took it apart has the same kind of 8 speed cassette. When I took it apart I knew it was going to be a problem to put it back together but seeing you video gave me confidence. I tied a very small copper wire around 18 gauge around the dogs after they were in place and got it together after packing with Phil Wood grease.Just before the cassette was totally home I untied the wire and pulled it out of the way. I would have never been able to hold all 3 at once and install in the wheel. I know my limitations '

I just finished doing this. Not the easiest job, but certainly way easier with the video. I used an elastic band to hold the springs and pawls in place, can’t imagine getting it right without that! Thanks mate

thin bare wire also did the job, quite easy to pull it out too

Great video, rebuilding hubs is a chore, the Campy look a little more complex and you have convinced me my Campy hubs will be rebuilt at my local bike shop. Thanks for sharing.

Yep,that's the failing of Campy. Always have to be tricky but good quality.I'll stick with Shimano for easy maintenance and cost.

thx !!!!!!!!!!!! have exactly same hub, was clueless about ball sizes and pawl assembly! now i am a wee bit wiser

Good idea to count the amount of threads from the locknut to end before strip down! you need to know this when you rebuild

I wrapped dental floss around the pawls

It sounds like spring. Time to get muddy with hub servicing!

Sounds like spring, feels like spring - just without the heat of last year.

Yeah, that's kind of the important part with Spring! The high today is 37f. I'm seeing bulb flowers coming up but we had frost yesterday morning, and it snowed last evening. We might have an entire week above freezing next week, but the forecast says six of those days will be consecutive rain! What's a bicyclist to do!? I expect Spring is going to hit us like a brick. I was able to get my garage up to 43f yesterday with the space heater on. Finished a customer's bike, set up my air compressor and shop computer, then spent the rest of the time in the basement working on a trailer upgrade project: i.imgur.com/Vgw1svY.png Keep warm and carry on! :)

Genial video!!! Me hacia falta saber el diámetro de ese nucleo. Es de 12mm o de 15mm. Muchas gracias

I use fishing line filiment couple of raps and or single strand of Wire from a usb cable ease it out once the palls are partially engaged with the hub ... the sealed bearings in that freewheel are held in with circlips ... .. the plastic faces can be popped out of sealed bearings and the grease changed ... these sealed bearings have plain clear grease if you put lithium or molisulphide in they will last a lot longer ... Enjoy 40,000 km and riding on Mirage style hub sealed changed three times ... it amazing how more efficient sealed bearings are compared with normal hub arrangements ...

Great video,just what I was looking for. How come you had to buy new ball bearings.Were the original ones missing or the wrong size? I thought keeping the pawls in place would be tricky and those springs are so easy to snap or lose.I stand to be corrected but I think there might be a special tool the clips around the pawls to hold them in place. Pulls them in and then releases as the other piece is slide over.Costs a few quid.I might try using an elastic band or try piece of string or something similar. Do you not put a drop of oil on the ratchet so you do not have dry metal on metal? Help them run smoother.

Just a random one. I have a Wagon myself but it's not the STi :(

Would an 8 speed exa drive chorus hub be the same? Also, string works to hold the pawls.

No idea. I don't really deal with Campy a lot

Hi, i am interested in how the cassette was bodged to run on 7 speed Shimano, as that would help me is it just a case of using the wider spacers from a shimano 6/7 speed cassette?

Hi there, I’m doing the same thing as this to an old Campag 8 speed I’ve got. I need to replace the seal too, but not too sure what I’m looking for. Could you tell me what you bought for this? Cheers
@acearnden3 жыл бұрын
To clarify, the seal between the ratchet mechanism and the drive side bearings
@MonkeyShred3 жыл бұрын
I don't remember replacing any seals unfortunately.

@@MonkeyShred no worries, cheers for the reply. At 11.30 it looks like you’ve got a new lip seal and I’m struggling to find anything vaguely similar!

I have Campag Mirage 8 speed hub.Similar to this. My Non Drive side will not take 9 x 1/4 Balls? Only takes 8 so I am now unsure about which balls and how many go where on my Hub?
