I bribed my way out of a Communist county with a 1/10 oz gold coin. They saw that I had limited cash funds and were really interrogating me (so that I would have at least missed my plane and been in on my own trying to get out!) I pulled the secret coin out of my wallet an was on the plane in minutes. It was a small price to pay and was totally effective in avoiding further frustration.

@@Eli-qr9hc No, think really really close to home… Note: It’s called fractal gold and can be bought in coin form. Very easy to secretly store in a wallet or purse or wherever… It’s about the size of a dime but is instantly recognizable as something far more valuable. Really it’s a worldwide currency.

I agree with you 100% about this topic. I love stacking 1/10, and 1/4 oz sizes. In fact, I would rather stack the fractional over the 1 ounce coins right now. Imagine the crap hitting the roof, and you wanted to buy $200.00 worth of food...then all you have is a $1900.00 ounce gold coin. Who will make change in a regular store? Not many I bet...Whip out a 1/10 oz, and you are set, and on your way out the door. I'm now up to 3 ozs in fractional gold, and I will continue to buy all I can. Great video.

The main issue I have with the folks criticizing fractional gold is that they 'straw man' the argument, often claiming ridiculous prices/premiums for the 1/10 ozt coins. Last week, I heard a couple creators cite 1/10 AGEs being around $280, meanwhile I bought a BU 1/10 AGE from SGB for $224 the same day. Yeah, that's still a 16.6% premium, but it's essentially the same as generic 1 oz silver nowadays anyway, and you're more likely to get some of your premium back on the sale. Another great video, thanks CC!

Its highly suspicious that Russia wants a $52/gram price or Rubles to do trades in Russia. We know gold is $1920/31.1 or $61.7/gram in the West. Interesting how Russia thinks it will develop an economy even China, India or Saudi Arabia would support at $61.7/gram other economics!?

Hi there & Merry Christmas to you and your subscribers! I just found this video while browsing my new favorite topic on KZbin. I been stacking for about 6 months now (I'm still considered a rookie stacker) and I started with silver because I'm on a budget and live paycheck to paycheck and I recently started stacking gold eagles. People on various other channels told me to ditch the fractional gold and save for full ounce gold, so I accused them of being high. LOL! I told them there's no way I'm waiting half a year to get some gold while there's dips in spot prices. So, I bought a quarter-ounce gold eagle every time there was a huge drop in spot prices and I later pointed out to those people that I'm no worse than they were saving for full ounce coins, because buying fractional enabled me to buy the dip, where as they for the most part missed out because they were waiting to make their 1oz purchases. Now it seems there's going to be a bull run with gold, so I'm looking to start buying some 1/10oz gold eagles, particularly if I want gold but don't have enough saved up for a 1/4oz coin. I think the elite stackers fail to take this into account when they urge people to only buy full ounce coins. Keep on stacking!

The advantage of fractional is the DCA potential. Buying a full ounce every 10 months might get you buying into a recent spike, while buying 1/10th every month will average out those 10 months. It really depends on price movement, but sometimes buying fractional and averaging over time will sometimes be cheaper than waiting and buying a full ounce.

Well thought out topic. While I understand your reasoning for not buying factional gold smaller than a 1/10th of an ounce I would advocate owning some 1 gr bars/coins. I own 25 1g Maples purchased a few years ago. I did pay what was considered a hefty premium at the time but I wanted the flexibility of being able to use them for smaller purchases than a 1/10th oz would warrant. Also they are sooooo cool to look at. The detail on something that small is amazing. As you say in a “preppers wet dream” lets say I want something that would cost around $60. At current spot prices of gold and silver that would equate to around 30 silver dimes or 1 gram gold maple. I would prefer to use the silver but let’s further the wet dream and say the person I am bartering with will only except gold as payment. I am covered under this scenario.

I agree with everything you've said, especially in relation to not stacking anything less than 1/10 oz. They are not only easy to lose and forget about, you can't really make out the details. I go for exactly the same strategy - nothing less than 1/10 oz. A benefit of owning a coin over a bar is that if you ever go overseas, you can theoretically declare that you are only carrying the face value of the coin (as legal tender). This one is debatable though...

Don’t the stories you related support the Valcambi Combibar? Maybe not to sell individually to an LCS, but in times of real need. If people are able to sell bits of a necklace or flakes of gold for real goods, I’m sure they’ll be okay with the broken off grams. I think that’s probably the best use case for a Valcambi, not something to be broken up to sell back to an LCS, but to be held onto as something in your arsenal in dire circumstances. Idk, just thinking out loud here.

Your logic is sound. Most of the gold and silver I have are one ounce coins but I do have a quantity of 1/10 oz for the reasons you state. I have these in the event of an unlikely economic collapse or hyper-inflation situation. Remember too that it is the gold that has value, not the coin itself. If necessary a one ounce coin can be cut into quarters and would still be identifiable as an American Eagle. Don't have such distain for the preppers. What they say is true but as you point out such risks can be mitigated with common sense precautions. They also know that while precious metals are a good part of a plan you can't eat gold, it won't defend you or shelter you or provide any medical use. You have to have other stuff too and if you don't the price of such things will be very high.

I’d rather spend like this knowing at that time and price I can hold physical gold then waiting to save for a lower premium but higher spot and having that go up in price and not have that physical gold. I guess that’s just me.

My first gold coin was the 1/4 ML in 2021. Feel like I should have gone for the AGE but at least I know what to go for next time. Also, what about bars for emergency transactions (Gold & Silver)? Would they also work or too niche to be viable? On a different note, what weight of silver bar would you recommend? Been looking at the 5 to 10 oz. And sure coins are more liquid. But there's something about owning a bar of bullion.

I guess it depend where you are in the world. Here in Canada the premium on fractional gold is ridiculous, we're talking 650 dollars over spot per ounce for 1/10 coins, a whopping 27%, and that is using the cheapest dealer in the country, it can get even higher than that . At that price I'd rather get silver to be honest(typically 20% premium for coins, 12 to 15% for rounds), it's a very, very bad investment. By comparison, you'd pay about 150 dollars over spot for new, 1 ounce coin, or about 6 to 6.5%. A bit high, but more reasonable, enough that you can expect to makeup for it with the increase of gold paper price in your lifetime.

I am brand new to stacking in Canada, I have very limited income being on disability due to chronic pain. I see it more as a long term savings method since I am very much adhd and spend moeny on stupid shit I dont need. I know you have mentioned this as a reason behind stacking and I fully understand it. I do feel a little scared to get into deep and losing my ass maybe though: I have started with 2oz of sliver dna maple leafs, but I am debating what to get next. I really want to diversify and gold has historically outperformed silver as well, but the $300 for a 1/10oz gold maple is hard and scary to swallow. I shorta feel safer getting like 2 or maybe up to 5 oz of sliver a month due to its affordability, but I am not sure what to do. Save for the gold or just keep plugging away at sliver 🤦‍♂️. I have like $800 for an entire month after bills if I didn't fuck up and use my credit card but adhd can make that hard 🥴... Ugh, I need to get my stupid commercial drivers license so I can do small school buses and supplement my income 🤦‍♂️.

1/4oz would be more reasonable premium wise. Or you could save a few months and get the 1oz. It's great you recognize your spending habit, now you got to get that "stupid" spending under control! 😉👊

On your income you shouldn't be buying gold or any other metals. Stacking is a pass time for those with disposable incomes. Rather you should make sure you have a 3 month emergency fund in the bank. Silver is a terrible idea, you may just break even if you hold it for years. If you feel you must invest in something, wait until the bitcoin price falls (which it will) and the buy what you can afford & hodl.

Yeah. Fractional can be a vary viable option. Just watch your premiums. A good compromize is approx 1/4 oz. 1/10 usually has way to high a premium and 1/2 is imho a stupid size - just get two 1/4 instead. Depending on local conditions that approx 1/4 oz size also includes Sovereigns, 20 Francs/Lire, 20 Kroner and similar sized vintage coins. US seems extremely patriotic but for most of Europe those mentioned coins are equally good or even better than newer bullion and just as liquid. No rules without exceptions. From time to time my local dealer has special offers on typical Münze Östereich stuff and you can then get a 1 Ducat just a hair above the price of a modern 1/10th bullion - however since the ducat contains more gold it's actually a very good deal equal to or better than 1/4 options. But to have all the gold in small sizes also takes up space. I like to have a good balance between 1 oz coins and smaller stuff. For my newer additions to my stack the smaller stuff is great deals I've stumbled upon at a great price, been lucky at an auction or similar and the 1 oz coins are from dealers - I've not stumbled upon a 1 oz deal yet outside dealers that have been good enough for me to travel to the seller and such a coin I'll never buy from a stranger unless in person. The smaller stuff is typically vintage coins not known for easily obtainable good looking fakes from Wish etc. and sellers reputation or verification (on platforms that support that) is also in order. And of course I'm not at all that selective when it comes to the smaller sizes - most of all I'm looking at the raw math - is it a good deal or way to high premium? When selling to bullion dealers where I live its on the insignificant digits if at all there's a difference between their buying price og 1 oz or 10x 1/10 oz coins - so basically it comes down to what your buying price was.

Thanks for telling truth. I own all. 1 ounce, 1/4 ounce, and 1/10 ounces. Most of what I own in gold is in the 1/10th ounce. The main benefit. my wife doesn't complain about $200 coming out of the account. 😂 Hit my wife for $2k and all hell breaks loose. In the end, you are better buying 1/10 gold if that is all you can afford. As any amount of gold is better than 100% of no gold. I have been getting most of mine at $205 low end to $220 high end.

In an ideal world ounces are the most cost effective choice and fractional has high premium. However, Sovereigns are kings of fractional, the premium is virtually as good as full ounces, and Sovereigns are more affordable, stealthier (being cheaper than 1000eu, I don't have to give away personal info) and are more bartereable, easier to sell (it's easier to find somebody with 450 eur than somebody with 1800euros), and more discrete (in a SHTF scenario an ounce will draw all eyes to its owner), and is more divisible (better pay one Sov than one Ounce to escape the border xd). Sure, most of those scenarios are farfetched, but they are free benefits that are bundled with Sovereigns. Quarter ounces are also similar in const efficiency. I would ignore half ounces or tenth ounces because the premiums are just too inefficient, maybe I would rely on silver for bartering.

Or you can use your silver for the small purchases rather than paying the obscene premiums for fractional gold. Think about just the spot value of a tenth of an ounce without the premium, which you likely won't get if you're spending gold like real money - you're talking somewhere in the ballpark of $180-200 - more if the economy explodes and gold's price starts to spike. That's fine if you're making a purchase in that price range but how often do you make those purchases? Need to fill up your car with gas - even a 25 gallon pickup truck tank at CA prices isn't going to hit $200 - meaning that you're forced to purchase other stuff you may not need with the change since obviously the dollar is now worthless if you're trading gold for gas. On the other hand, while seven 1 ounce silver coins are a bit bulkier than one 1/10 ounce gold coin, they're a heck of a lot easier to make these small purchases you're advocating making with fractional gold. This is why most ancient coins were made of copper, brass, bronze and silver - because fractional gold was still worth too much to use for a trip to the grocery store. Nope - if you're hoarding precious metals for the apocalypse then your best bet is to stock up on ounces of silver to purchase your groceries with and save the ounces of gold for the big purchases.
@SlavGuns
@SlavGuns 2 жыл бұрын
Um you do know right now, with ZERO supply cuts and still a measly 8% inflation rate, there are parts of CA paying over $8 per gallon? $10 per gallon is not at all out of the question, especially if you need diesel. The answer is, if financial system breaks down that we need to use gold and silver, you would get the 25 gallons of gas for your truck, and then fill up another 50 gallons in either jerry cans or a bigger tank to take home with you.

I don’t disagree with you on silver. I believe I mention it in the video. But there are some realities one needs to look at. Premiums on 1oz generic silver is 16-20%. Premiums on tenth oz gold eagles is 15%. Silver is great for small purchases but gold is a better buy at the moment. Ancient coins have copper and bronze mixed in because of currency debasement. Most currencies start out with 90% gold and/or silver with 10% copper mixed in, but over the years it’s debased. More and more junk metal is mixed in until no precious metals are left.

@@SlavGuns I've got a garage I can put all of that gasoline in - many people don't and many others aren't strong enough to move a 33 pound, five gallon plastic jerry can of fuel. But here's the other problem - I'm guessing you're too young to remember the oil embargo of the 70s when not only was the price of fuel on par with today but there was also rationing, meaning that even if you have the money to buy fifty gallons of fuel at $10 a gallon, we'll likely be seeing supply shortages and that means rationing.

@@CampbellsCoins Local coin shops are asking spot plus $2 for eagles and other one ounce rounds that aren't collectable, but prices vary by area I guess - I'm in Orlando. So for me, with silver going at $25, that means that $200 worth creates a premium of $16 while your 1/10 gold coin, which is also worth just shy of $200 right now, has a premium of just shy of $30, so not only are you losing more by only being able to shop with $200 bills, but you're losing more premium. As for ancient coins, I think you misunderstood me - I was saying that gold wasn't used for everyday coins because it was worth too much - it was the $100 or $1000 bill of the ancient world while copper and silver coins were your $50 and less.

@@seanfoltz7645 $27 for Eagles? Where? Will buy them all. Premiums on Eagles at a minimum are $10 to $12. Local dealers are buying eagles from consumers for $5 to $7 over spot. A lot of wisdom here, which you don't typically hear from someone like yourself or almost anyone in the stacking community. I'm of the mind that if you're not a person of significant means, that you really should start with fractional Gold. It's better to have some Gold than to have no Gold or a single giant ounce of Gold. In my view, your universe of possible buyers goes up dramatically, the lower you go in your increment of Gold. The caveat to that being, 1/10 ounce Gold is as low as you should go. Anything smaller than a 1/10 ounce coin is just too small and delicate. In other it's just too easily lost, and it tends to lose its perceptual heft, in terms of the weight you can actually feel from the coin. Holding a 1/10 ounce Gold Eagle is totally different than holding an American clad dime, and that's obvious. So because many many more people could be legit possible purchasers of my Gold, I would start with 1/10 ounce Gold and then graduate to 1/4 ounce Gold. Once you have an ounce in each of those fractional amounts, you can move up to 1/2 ounce, if you're comfortable, or you stick with more fractional until you get comfortable with the amount you have. For myself, I generally stay away from full 1 ounce Gold, mostly because it's likely to be such a massive chunk of wealth for the average person. I could see a 1 ounce coin buying a car or something large like that in the future, and 5 to 10 being able to purchase even a home in the future. For myself, I figure that I can accomplish all of that with fractional, though I don't begrudge anyone their 1 ounce coins. They just aren't for me, though they are a wonderful thing to obtain in general. Given the trajectory of our future in the world, the West in particular, I think having Gold is going to be absolutely essential. Great video!
