I started out with grams as a way of getting my feet wet without risking too much money. I agree that larger sizes are much better investments. There are worse ways to waste money than grams of gold. If you gave me the option of having dinner at a chain restaurant or fasting for a day and buying a gram of gold I would choose the latter any day. I often think of how much gold I could buy for the money when buying other things. It's different than investing in the stock market. I never think this dinner cost me x shares in a mutual fund but I will think in terms of grams of gold

Very true Bret. I often look at the cost of things in terms of ounces, and how much gold I could purchase if I cut X out of my life.

There is a subscription option for 1g bars at my local coin dealer in Europe. After the 12th monthly purchase you get an extra 1-5 g bar/s (depending on the volume of your monthly purchases). This is a very good way to remove the premium or to cost average :)

That's excellent advice, I've just started out, and live in the UK. My plan is to buy what I can, and keep stacking until I retire. I buy a 2.5 gram Royal mint bar, and two Silver Brittania's each month. Some months I'll get pamp. But, just these two brands. I have purchased a couple of king's coronation silver Britannia's, as they have a limited mintage, and will be worth way more than what I paid, even with the premiums, in 20 or 30 years. So, if starting small or big, If the plan is to stack, it'll all add up to many grams of gold, and ounces of silver in the future. Keep it safe, keep it in the original packaging, and keep the letters that it came with. 😊

Despite the premiums I love small gold. For me personally I am not always the greatest at saving so any chance to buy small gold to lock away some savings is better than wasting it on something I don’t need. Plus I’m holding long term. I also enjoy the variety of options of small gold. I think it also depends on your personal goals and what you deem important. I also want to have fun in the process of stacking so small gold gives me everything I want. I feel no matter the size of gold someone buys it’s still a really smart savings plan either way. 1 Gram or 1oz stack away my friends!

You make very valid points. I bought mostly buffalo gold one ounce coins. However, If we ever go to a barter situation which I hope we never do, then I want some grams in my stack. Even though the premiums are high I am buying pamp suisse gram gold. I also have silver but who knows what will happen to it when industrial demand goes away in a severe recession or depression. So I am wasting a little money on the gram gold bars.

The premiums are high on silver too, at least where I am. The total cost( incl. v.a.t, postage, etc) of getting 1oz if silver is twice the cost of spot value minimum, the more you buy the better of course, but the premiums are nonthelesse high even with generic rounds and bars
@melloncolliemedb Жыл бұрын
Silver is more expensive for me actually. Spot for 1gram gold is 56 and I'll get in my hands for 76. With silver by the oz I will pay double spot and I know I'm comparing different measures but still I think I have a point. I may get some 5g bars and 1/10 coins. The Gold looks incredibly better and where I am I have no issue in Redeeming them for positive cash flow with or without assay packages. I agree with you don't open them if your in an area where their is less bullion trading or you don't have an established relationship with your bullion broker you will definitely get less.

I’m about to enter this field of collecting/ saving or investing if you will and I’ve been strongly considering silver since it’s very useful and cheaper. I’m thinking the 2.5, 5, and 10 ounce bars when I’m feeling richer I figure it’s a start for now and it’s more within my budget. Curious what you think about buying individual silver eagles vs packs of 20? There doesn't seem to be a huge difference in premium. Maybe silver is a better way to make small investments
@CampbellsCoins Жыл бұрын
I love silver eagles. Currently their premiums are just too much to justify buying any. I bought 100 eagles almost two years ago, the weekend before premiums blew up. I bought full tubes and you're right, the difference isn't much savings compared to singles, unless you're buying a monster box. If singles is all one can afford, I see nothing wrong with it.
@BretMiller Жыл бұрын
@@CampbellsCoins I noticed that the premiums on silver eagles are way over spot prices. I don't currently own any but was looking at them. Do you know if it is because of demand or speculation about future increases or maybe just exploiting people who are less knowledgeable?

Here’s how I see it…grams of Gold are a complete waste of money, based on astronomical premiums. The only reason to purchase these are, as you said, to give as gifts to children. If you have to buy grams (for whatever your reasons), then I would absolutely buy the Maplegrams. They are instantly recognized, and trusted to be authentic (providing you leave them sealed). The only other reason that I can see, would be to flip them on an uptick of spot price, and that would be person to person. Personally, I would wait for the Gold price to settle back down to say, around $1800, or less.

Save up cash in an interest bearing account until there's enough to purchase a lower premium 1 oz bar. At the end of the year, the premium hole for that bar will be much shallower.

Maple 25 for divisibility and lower (but not great) premiums. I have a few in the stack just in case I'd rather not use my silver in a circumstance. Otherwise, PAMP 1g with Veri-Scan. Popular in all markets when selling, and the QR code will help instill confidence in buyers if you sell privately. Cache in Singapore allows you to buy 1g gold tokes reasonably close to spot, which can then be "converted" into a 100g bar (with a reasonable premium added when converting). Still, I would only do Cache if I was disciplined with a concrete plan to take possession of the 100g bar within 12 months. An option for those on a limited budget, but a complicated play for a new stacker. Great vid. As prices rise this will be more of a thing.
@CampbellsCoins Жыл бұрын
Appreciate the international perspective! That 100 gram conversion seems like a nice deal, assuming the premium to convert isn't too crazy.
@martinrev8487 Жыл бұрын
@@CampbellsCoins FYI, I'm in Toronto, Canada (technically international, but not really). I keep a part of my stack in Singapore as part of my strategy (with the same company that runs Cache but operates separately). The cool thing about Cache is that they have storage in Dallas, TX. So you could pick up (or have it shipped from) the 100g bar there. Gold closed at $1,920 today, and the cost per g on Cache is currently $63.06 USD (63.06 * 31.1 = $1,961.66), so a 2.14% premium. I looked at the cost to redeem in gold, which is under 5% (best guess eyeball estimate with all costs considered, including initial premium and shipping). Pretty darn good compared to the steep premiums of getting a physical gram (20% plus most often). This could be a great solution for those willing to put in a little work to get set up who can only afford the average dollar cost by the gram.
