This looks amazing! So you're saying you have to ship your existing canvas to the company making the replacement canvas - versus this being some sort of warranty replacement. Anybody ever remove the canvas and just make that back panel a window? Meaning the externior panel that folds up is just a frame for a window - no more bed. For those RVs that have that fold out back canvas bed. Not a pop up like this one.
@GoMidwestFishing
@GoMidwestFishing Жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to ship your old canvas in, but only if they don't have the exact template for your camper. If you want to ensure you get the right sized canvas, I would suggest sending it in. This was not a warranty replacement. I got this camper off facebook marketplace, and it had a lot of water damage from a leaking roof.

There is a fabric shop near me that will make a new tent end for your pop up trailer. He requires the whole piece so he can fabricate a new one. One bunk end cost me $500. If you have a tent trailer make sure you fully dry your canvas before you store your camper. You did a great job. That canvas looks great.

I went with Bear Creek for my 1989 Coleman Chesapeake that I bought for 500.00. I got lucky that I didn't have to send the old canvas in. I will be paying 1000.00 plus 70.00 for shipping and handling. I'll have to wait a few months as they are really back ordered, but that's ok because I enjoy fall/winter camping. In the mean time I'll keep working on the restoration of the camper. Thanks for your great videos. Really enjoy them and I'm learning a lot as this is my first camper and I'm a lady with not a lot of building experience but willing to learn.

While I don't have a camper I've got canvas on the big boat and once a year I use a light combo of Dawn and Bleach as a clean up and once dry I Armorall the entire top and compartment covers and this does a great job of waterproofing and removing stains. For such a lot of Canvas they did an excellent job....I also carry a bag of buttons and I keep those lubricated with T-9 Boeshield.....It's a Boeing Product designed to stick and lubricate joined metal surfaces on Planes....Sea Ya!!
@GoMidwestFishing
@GoMidwestFishing 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input. They were really pushing not using chemicals on the canvas. Only water to clean it, otherwise it deteriorates the natural waterproofing. I have heard people say they use dawn and bleach too. I guess if its working for you, then keep doing it.

I'm in the Midwest as well .. way further south in the st louis area. I would suggest to anyone that does this kind of thing do it in the fall to winter. As someone who has a kind of seasonal job depending on the year (some years are 50+ every week some not so much) try to order during their slow times to keep everyone working. As well as to have your product long before everyone else as well. Everyone wins.

We recently purchased a 94 star craft. We do vending and thought a pop up would be a great idea. 2 major storms, 1 with 90 mph winds. We had considered Beer Creek as well. Nope, definitely 1st time buyers remorse. Ours is essentially totaled unless we go through everything you did with the roof and canvas. Your videos have made me re-think junking ours. As of now still undecided 😕

I think the pup up campers are great for people that like the tent camping for the nature sounds. The closer up campers have a different feel with almost no natural light which is fine some some and not for others. Anyway thank you very much for your video!

Looked at a 90 Chesapeake, today. Canvas is quite spotty with mold looks like its been years since was opened. Only $100 for the camper, but also needs tires, theres a spot where roof looks a little damped down. Cupboards have the fake wood stickers pealing-off.. likely needs where bearings.. I do not wish to do all this work or pay to.

That's what I thought at first, but to truly get them lined up, its best to do it yourself. Now I do think they need to supply a better tool and instructions on how to do it.

Man I hate too be honest but it looks like shit and the price from the experience I have which isn't a while lot but I have a 2k sailrite industrial sewing machine and know how to stitch, they are using some cheap ass fabric!! You get what you pay for us all I'm saying. Don't be fooled by low priced Taylor's. Stuff won't last three years I promise..

To redo the entire canvas on a camper that size in Australia would be 5-7000 Australian dollars or in US 3-4000 if not more

Dang, that's more than I paid for this camper. This was a few years ago, so I'm sure the price went up since then.

I don't know a whole lot about fabric, but it felt pretty good to me. The canvas seemed heavy duty and well stitched. If you have your own sewing machine, that's awesome. No need to pay for someone else to do it for you. I can barely sew a button on, so I was happy with the results.
Finally, a Small Camper with Toilet, Shower, AND Standing Room!
