Thanks for the vid and tips. Do you know if roof rails add stability and even the load?

I’d definitely say they help distribute the load over the whole roof instead of just one place where the feet are 👌🏼

Thanks for the great video, very informative! I have been looking for a good solution for my Jeep JKU and was not impressed with the usual solutions. Two questions; do you think I could cut the tracks to a custom length, and do you think I could add an aluminum support rail inside and under each track for additional structure support? Thanks.
@Adv4x42 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And yes you can definitely order long ones and cut them to custom length 👍🏼 Also the aluminum support rail would work just fine as well

Hi, Great video. Thanks. I bought all that stuff based on your video. The bolts you use to go from the Sherpa Feet to the Yakima anchors, what are they? I think they are M6 but I cannot find anything more about them. Sorry of I missed it in your video. Did you use any Loctite? Your vid of going to Utah and proposing to the woman who is to be your wife was also outstanding. Congrats.

So just to be clear...this racks basically replace the Yakima/Thule tracks right? You can basically attach anything on the Proline ones thay you can attach to the yamkima and Thule brand ones?
@Adv4x43 жыл бұрын
Yessir it’s a standard track design that allows you to attach load bars that are designs for tracks like this. Without paying a bunch of money for the. Brand name ones

How much weight should this hold? I am planning on doing the same thing but with some Yakima tracks. Can I make the load rating better with stronger bolts and washers?
@Adv4x4 Жыл бұрын
These bars will handle anything you throw at them within reason. Your camper shell or whatever they are mounted too will be the factor to consider when it comes to weight it can handle

Hey! Are those prolines’ curved or straight tracks? Getting the same ones for my topper
@Adv4x43 жыл бұрын
They are the curved ones. My roof has a slight curve to it so that’s why I chose that option. They slightly “too curved” but as you can imagine you just press on the middle and it flattens out as needed to fit perfectly
@almanzarimprovement2 жыл бұрын
So of you drilled this to your shell, is it safe to drill my actual car roof?? How much do you usually load?
@Adv4x42 жыл бұрын
There’s a few factors that come into play there. You will need to remove your headliner so you can see what’s on the other side before drilling. You don’t want to hit wiring, curtain airbags, sunroof components etc. Aside from that a lot of vehicle roofs are a very thin metal for the skin. There is rain gutters in each side close to the edge of the roof and that’s the part that’s capable of handling any sort of load, not the center. If it were mine I don’t think I’d be drilling any holes in the metal roof of my vehicle personally. Mainly in fear of leaks and water damage. Some vehicles have rack kits where it’s normal to drill the roof to install a roof rack. If this is the case I’d feel safer about it. But if not I’d personally avoid it or let a professional who is well versed in custom installs like that handle it.

No wind noise to my knowledge! None that I can hear over my front rack haha
@AndrewPardo3 жыл бұрын
how much weight would you trust to put on those bars
@Adv4x43 жыл бұрын
I had almost 200lbs on the old plastic bars and that weight rode up there during a lot of offroad use and was fine. I’d be even more confident in it now. The next “weak link” would be the camper shell. Mine isn’t re enforced and I can stand on it no issues. I don’t think you have to worry about any sort of rooftop tent damaging this rack or a cap.
@AndrewPardo3 жыл бұрын
@@Adv4x4 besides sheer weight, do you think there is any risk to tugging laterally from wind pushing on things mounted up there?
@Adv4x43 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewPardo I can’t imagine there is any danger of that. Unless it’s anything short of a parachute haha. Even something very boxed shape should be absolutely fine

@erikroadie17503 жыл бұрын
I got an aluminum old camper shell so I figured I’d drill the holes to hold the rack on the support arches where the aluminum camper shell is being supported. The camper shell roof is pretty fragile that I can easily dent the aluminum roof with my hand
