I'm taken by how few trees are ever in your videos. It is like Scotland has no trees at all, a wonder for a place so beautiful as this. It feels more isolated somehow, bigger and more open like the surface of a different planet.

You’ll find a lot of trees on the roadside but within the mountains there is a lot less. ATB Gaz

Cheers John. I’m kind of hoping to hit my Munro target in the next few weeks. Just got a mouth infection to deal with and I’ll hopefully be out in the next week or two. Glad I went to the 2nd Munro summit too. Great views and it was a great evening for walking when I arrived at the start point. A good area for sure. ATB Gaz

Was nice to meet you too James. Enjoyed our camp last weekend. Found the final descent off the final Munro in the morning a little bit challenging. Good walking back to the car to be fair. Three good Munros which I may revisit with Monty for a camp. ATB Gaz.

Good stuff Gaz, one of my favourite hikes in the Eastern Highlands. If I do it again, I'll camp it like you. Think the very last cairn on the 3rd Munro is the true summit. Not long until the 100 mate. I'm sure you'll get 100 by the end of the year.
@GazTheExplorer
@GazTheExplorer Жыл бұрын
There was a cairn with a trig point and I was aware that the cairn after was the true summit. I took the gamble to camp on the second Munro and it worked out well. Monty has not done this route yet so the chances are I’ll probably do it again with him. It’s also one of my favourites in the Eastern Highlands too. On 95 Munros now after bagging Bidean nam Bian and it’s neighbour today. Been a great year for me👍

It looked so tranquil where you was, the views are lush. I bet you was glad that you went on to camp on your 88th munro. The views got even better tbh, if thats even possible when in Scotland. I don't know how you know the names and heights of them mountains off the top of your head, I can't remember my own name most of the time 😅 Well done on your 89th munro. Great video and catch you on your next adventure 👍 Ps. I did keep an eye out for your camp with Monty you said you was going do a few weeks ago, I did watch and like his, but I guess I missed yours or you didn't record anything which is cool 🤙

Cheers Richard. I did film my trip with Monty but I uploaded this trip away first so you should see my trip with Monty next Wednesday. It sometimes does not work out trying to plan camps on the mountains. I definitely got lucky finding the camp spot I did on the second Munro. I guess I can remember the names and height’s because I spend hours planning my trips away sometimes😄 This route was on my mind for months so I’m glad to of finally done it. ATB Gaz

Cracking pitch Gaz. Another 3 Munros tae. Fairly battering thru them. I mind walking from 2 to 3 thinking it would be perfect to pitch there. That walk oot is a pain in the erse. No so much if your camping I suppose.
@GazTheExplorer
@GazTheExplorer Жыл бұрын
The walk back was only an hour, when comparing it to the Geldie Lodge two it’s not bad to be fair. What I like about the route is it’s a loop so you only need to walk that long path once. I seen the size of the 2nd and 3rd Munros from Carn Liath and though I surely will find a flat spot there. Glad I took the gamble and went to the second Munro. It’s definitely a great route. ATB Gaz

Great video. Thanks! Your pack looked a great size. I’ve only been out a few times and defo overpacked. Can you share what you had. You may have done that before and I’ve forgotten, so point me in that direction if you’ve covered that already. I’d love to hear more about water filters. Water is also weighing me down. Mostly, thanks. Another great video.
@GazTheExplorer
@GazTheExplorer Жыл бұрын
The backpack used on this specific trip was the Osprey Talon 33. It works well with my summer gear since most the gear I use in the summer has a small pack size. As for the filter many use the bee free or the Sawyer filters. I use a wee water bladder to collect water which did come with the filter I purchased. You’ll find most filters will also fit a 500ml plastic bottle too. It’s worth mentioning that routes the size of the route I did on this video might not always have a water source so definitely check a map of the area before heading. I have a list of the main camping gear I use in the description. Thanks ATB Gaz.

Have you ever had any negative experiences while camping ?. i've been wanting to solo camp for a while but always get the fear of a weirdo hanging round the tent in the dark when i'm sleeping lol
@GazTheExplorer
@GazTheExplorer Жыл бұрын
The chances of something like that happening where I camp is fairly slim to be fair. I usually camp in more remote places or areas where people should not see me. I think you’ll be fine and most people will just leave you alone. Hope you enjoy your camping trips anyway👍
