Hey Xander, as a whitewater canoe and kayak instructor that's paddled the ocoee a ton, I'd love to give you some feedback that may help you feel more confident next time you're in that sports car. 1. Shorten your paddle strokes. The forward stroke should end by the time you're at your knees. Faster and stronger paddle strokes will give you more speed and power, which means the boat will have more speed for you to turn effectively. Don't be afraid to start incorporating cross forward strokes to gain speed. I usually try a 2-2 method to pick up speed. 1 forward, 1 cross forward and repeat to gain speed. 2. You spend a a lot of time with your paddle out by your hip either drawing to the front or back, from what I've found, a better place for you to turn is either at the very front or very back of the boat. For the front, short but strong bow draws will turn the boat better than a long slow stroke from the middle of the boat forward like in 13:30. For the stern, a quick stern draw at the very back of the boat will do the same. I also love the stern rudder to help as well. I always tell folks to avoid the middle of the boat for paddle strokes. 3. With the Ocoee, your edges are really sharp and pronounced. Basically, if you lean left you go left, lean right go right, moreso than your pocket canyon that you've been paddling. But if you're trying to start gaining speed, you want to try to keep the boat on a flat plane so it goes straight. This part is always the trickiest to fully understand, but over time you'll crush it. Hope this was helpful, would love to paddle with ya sometime! Cheers.

Xander your videos have really helped me, you have no idea how much. I’ve camped all of my life, most of my memories with my Dad who passed away from cancer 3 years ago. I’ve camped a lot since but it never felt the same and it has always made me upset. Watching your videos has helped me find my love for camping again, you’ve taught me a lot of cool stuff! And you always make me smile and laugh😁 I really hope you get the subs you deserve soon. I visited Ontario 16 years ago when I was a wee 14 year old lassie, I hope to visit again some day and I would LOVE to camp out ❤️ Love from Scotland 🏴

That new boat blows chunks!! What happened to patches? What a great video, lots of edge of the seat action knowing your in an unfamiliar canoe. That skibby dipping scene chilled me to the bone, I had to turn up my house heat,[burrrrrr]. Here in the States we call that the "Polar Bear Club". When a group jumps in icy water. I didn't know what a wimp I was until I started watching this channel. I've cracked up 3 home made airplanes, 2 motorcycles, one 18 wheeler and 5 mountain bikes but I feel like a little school girl when I watch your forest expeditions. I could never follow you guys that's for sure. Good job!!

I think a fly over that tent might keep the snow off and more heat in. Dipping in a frosty river takes more than I have to offer. I love it in the summer. My snowmobile suit was a one-z and I was never cold or drafty. What you have there is a beauty for what you're doing. As always, a great video and you ate like a king. Pax.

Ultimate gear combo right there, Xander!! Great choices! Nortent is second to none, and I've always said that pomoly makes the best titanium stoves, especially for the price, that's why I chose one myself. I loved this video, anytime you can canoe and hot tent is superb. Speaking of which, good on you for pushing yourself and getting into a more aggressive boat! They aren't easy to control and in some good WW no less, I was very impressed. Looking forward to seeing more of this setup and some winter adventures! Anyways thanks to you, Xander, I pushed myself and went for it. Can't wait for the next video!

Ive canoed a few times and its always been dicey for me. I love kayaking though. Sit on top Ocean Kayak trident ultra 14.3 is my go to. Ive never dumped it and i can stand up and cast a fishing pole without falling in. I think the size of your canoe warrants a double sided paddle.
