Stranded in a Rainstorm - Surviving the Night

Caught in a rainstorm with a broken paddle, too far to hike out I must spend the night with the limited gear that I have.
While this situation was simulated, everything in the video I actually did with the limited tools and gear that I brought, all shown on video.
I always tell people where I'm going, I always carry an emergency communication device and I always bring an extra paddle, But It was fun to go through the motions of a potential stranded situation.
I'm sure I could have fixed my paddle before I snapped it all the way through but then I wouldn't have got to spend the night with my 1000 mosquito friends
Hope yall have a great day

You videos never fail to take me along for whichever Adventure you are departing on. They take me with and move me to a similar place of natural tranquility that only the wild can provide. It is a rare thing, not only in a KZbin content sphere but for media in general that I can experience something like that. In my opinion it is a testament to the efforts you go through to produce content of this quality. I'm really happy to be watching along, as i reminisce over the outdoor experiences of my own life, and feel inspired to dream of new ones. Cheers and thanks for the content, Xander.

In a survival situation (yes, even if it is only for one night) you never extinguish a fire until you are ready to depart the area. In this case, the smoke from the fire may have helped the mosquito problem, too. All-in-all, a great entertaining video. I am now a subscriber.

Outstanding application of knowledge, skills, and equipment! What some may not realize is that behind these 11 minutes were many hours and experiences on each of the survival elements … shelter, fire, cooking a fish with paracord ! … and actually having a well thought out survival kit. Great example of taking ownership for your adventures and managing the outcomes. Thanks for the education.

You make it look so cozy and ok to camp out. My husband and I were poor students when we got married and we had to camp out at the KOA on our honeymoon down to Florida in June. It was something that I will never forget. Unbeknownst to us that the mosquitoes , chiggers, and fire ants were out en force in June down there. I found out that they LOVED my blood. I must have donated a pint of my blood to the American Insect Blood Suckers Association of Florida. Red welts and itchy bite marks were all over my body. I looked like I had the measles! At night I couldn’t even get a shut eye because it was stifling hot, humid, not even a single breeze, and the insects formed their annual convention of cacophonous symphony of music. They partied all night long and it wasn’t until about 6 or 7 o’clock in the morning that they decided to close down their bands. It was a honeymoon of nightmare! 😂

Great that you had that survival stuff, and caught the bass. Without it what a misery that night would have been. I learned a valuable lesson once when kayaking and my paddle broke unexpectantly. Always take a spare.
