Hey guys, here from Steve Wallis' recent video camping out in the cabin. When I was on Couchsurfing a long time ago, I remember reading about a cabin somewhere up-island that had its own profile on the website, and it was first come, first serve. I don't know if this is the one, or that was a different one. All I know is it was way North Island. Beautiful scenery, though! The furthest up I've been is Zeballos for commercial fishing. It's a whole other world up there. The scenery and wildlife is unreal. Thanks for the footage!

It just keeps getting more rugged the further north you go. The whole island is an incredible place forsure but there's just something about north island ! Thanks for taking the time to check out our channel. Cheers

WOW ! I know 31 is coming around now but Happy 30th. I celebrated 50 in July 2023. We drove to Yosemite and hiked Half Dome. Highlight of my life, it was just magical. This place looks magical too. Glad you got such a special spot for your special day.

Just watched Steve’s adventure here and had to see yours too. Someone in his comments made mention that they helped build that place and was happy to share some history. Don’t know if he read the comment, but that would be a cool story to hear.
@wayoftheroads Жыл бұрын
It's a really neat spot! I honestly wish we could re-do the video and go back with more knowledge of its history. There's a lot of great stories in the log book from those who have stayed in the past or helped build the cabin. There's a lady named Carol who goes often and keeps the place clean ❤️❤️. Pretty crazy to think all of the materials were hauled in to complete the build! Thanks for checking out the video :) cheers

Lots of people deflate their tires for the rough roads. When we were in Holberg this summer, you could see the locals running around on tires that looked half flat. Much smoother ride. Also helps to have off-road tires like TA-K02s Orr similar.

Hi you guys, I'm not much of a commenter but I really like your vids. I got onto you from Steve Wallis a few weeks ago. I just moved back to Canada after living in Australia for the last 33 years, but I grew up on the Island and spent countless nights camping all over it tip to tail and left to right. Really loving the nostalgia. Going through the back catalogue . Best of luck to you 3. Knox.

On my initial Cape Scott trek, after a night on Nils Bight, in the sand surrounding the tent, several wolf prints were witnessed. It was evident that a pack had passed in the night and taken mild interest in my site as the majority of the evidenced paw traffic was concentrated around my tent.

So sad….I was there Friday (June 9/23) and couldn’t find the cabin. Back roads my book has it on the wrong spot. It is one little day over. I climbed ropes and everything else and when I got back to the main beach, there was an older gentleman sitting in a lawn chair and he said oh, you just have to go one day further… Then he proceeded to tell me about the wolf 30 feet away from the trail head. That was after I mentioned to him that a Bear crossed my path 50 feet in front of me at San Josef on the main trail 😮 What I learned from my trip to the northern part of the island was that I never want to go there alone again Hahahahha. Seeing a Bear, while you are all by yourself, and being told, there is a wolf 30 feet from the trail head tends to scare one a little😂
@wayoftheroads Жыл бұрын
Oh no! Where did you start hiking from? We know how tucked away it is, we had a hell of a time finding it from the road. That will get your heart pumping forsure... We saw A LOT of bears while we were up north, very cool but scary 🤣. Would love to see a wolf! Just have a few songs in your head that you can sing out loud next time you're hiking alone 😂. Cheers, thanks for watching !

In that same beach location where the cabin is, there is an abandoned campground, with a trail leading up to the old parking lot. It's just a small walk from one beach to the other. My family and I stayed there last summer and it is by far my favourite place on earth. The beaches are beautiful, the river was soothing and I can't wait to go back! It is quite a hike to get to it though, but it's so worth it. There are beautiful spots to set up camp and the cabin is just on the other beach, a short walk away. You do have to be carful for bears and wildlife, we hung our food packs up in the tree every night! I can't wait to go back to this beautiful place!
@wayoftheroads Жыл бұрын
How cool! Are you talking about the really overgrown tent pads across the river from this cabin? We actually stumbled upon those first before we found the cabin! Truly an amazing place. On our way in we did see a big black bear not too far away up on his hind legs sniffing us out 😅. Hope you get to experience it here again soon. Cheers !
