The idea to convert the oil well areas to campsites has great merit. In the US we have the Rails to Trails Conservancy which converts old rail lines into multiuse public trails. They are wide and mostly flat because they are built in the defunct railroad cut. They are very popular and ever expanding around the country.
@linebrunelle10042 жыл бұрын
there's a trail across all of Canada and a few off shoots North and South. One of those is in Alberta where Steve lives. The trail is an old railway that goes through small towns and beautiful natural settings. From Edmonton to Cold Lake. Come check it out

Hey I'm "Oil Field People" I did some digging, these wells are owned by Long Run Exploration LTD The wells were drilled in 2005-2009 and have been suspended in 2018, Long run does still appear to be operating so these wells aren't "Abandoned" In the industry abandoning well means something completely different, when a well is abandoned that means the well is cemented off down hole and then usually cut 2 meters below ground and welded shut. In addition these days Oil and Gas companies have to put money aside upfront before drilling a well so that even if the company goes bust the well can be properly "Abandoned"

I guess give him a try. I forgot the Asian / Korean girl's YT channel name but there's one featuring an Asian women who does a bunch of various shelter builds & sometimes, catch & cook stuff ( mostly fish!) Greg Ovens is fun as well to watch especially for his various put together traps for fishing & other stuff & not so much music goes on in those. There's others.

LMAO when steve was lighting the bbq it reminds me of the Simpsons when Homer puts so much fluid then the next scene is a huge mushroom cloud

Steve, I know this video was posted a while ago, but I watch your video at least once a day (and listen to your calming voice/camping noise as a way to go to sleep easier at night) and it’s just sooo very meditative. I’m going through some tougher times right now, and can’t wait to come back home to the states to go camping and get a piece of myself back.I hope you have the best days!

I went camping once not by choice as a small child and the tent had a leak right above my head so I was awake most of the night as there was no escape from the droplets splashing off of the sleeping bag beside my head. Nobody ever took me camping again and I had never felt the urge to go. I feel as if my place is not in the forest or by the water and not on the road or in the sky but in my own mind and wherever I may end up in my life I can always hunker down if I have to now that you have shown me how, thank you Steve. I picked this video to comment on specifically because I like this setup you are using here.

Steve I’ve been watching for a couple weeks now and I’m just commenting on your most recent video hoping you’ll see it. I just have one thing to say man, thank you, you’ve brought something to people that they can’t always access. When it’s 2 am and I need to relax you bring me right back to when I was a kid camping with my dad. All the love and peace in the world, thank you sir ❤️

We had this same issue in Texas this last year. We couldn't even get a reservation to go to the state parks to fish because they were limiting how many people were in the parks. All the parks were reserved for camping as well. I don't blame families to use their time off work to camp and do things and give their kids so many experiences. It was a rough year everywhere. I think your idea fantastic. We have tons of old oil wells here but the majority are on private property.

Here's a trick I learned from camping in freezing temp. Take a wool blanket, drape it over the tent on the outside. So it's between the rain fly and the top of the tent. Doing that makes it feel like you have a heater in your tent.

I’ve worked in the Texas oilfield since I was a kid, and still do. The well with the blue motor on it , I have not seen in probably 20 years. Can’t remember what they’re called, but I remember it has a rod string that has like an auger type design, when the motor turns it , down hole acts like a vertical auger which brings the fluid to the surface. Never ride a pump jack kids!!Ive seen videos in emergency training, of firefighters pulling mangled bodies of teenagers, that thought it would be cool to ride them, out from between the counter weights and pitman arms-- Not Pretty. I agree with Steve, after clearing the location, Plugging the wells and renovating the soil... perfect campsite.
