Hey I appreciate the recommendations! I had a great time at the fair, drank lots of mead, made lots of friends. I slept good with my battery pack and cpap 👌

I have been a Civil War Re-enactor since highschool. I am now 57. Always canvas floorless tent and as close to period correct equipment as you can get!

I would use a normal tent myself to keep out animals/insects. Depending on the temperature, a foam roll would be recommended, not for comfort, but for insulation if it’s cold. I do backpacking camping, so that’s where I’m coming from. I am planning on doing car camping sometime soon, and that would be my minimum requirements. I bring powdered Gatorade for hydration, and if you’re having mead the night before, you’ll probably appreciate Gatorade in the morning. 😂 Enjoy!

TRF has 220 acres of campground at the faire. There are RV spots, dump stations, cabins to rent, Tents to rent, and just trailers or army tents and then there are the clans that have areas reserved. There is a bon fire has truck food vendors and beer stations. you either camp in the reval area of Huzza until 3 am or in the family area that just has slightly less noise. Bring ear plugs, and get in the showers early if it was hot. Otherwise, you will need a heater in the later part of Nov, as it gets cold at night even if it hits 85 in the day. Open flames are not allowed, if you want a fire is has to be in a fire pit raised off the ground with a grate style lid. there is no power.

We were there, at TRF that weekend. In fact our group was part of the parade each day during the Highland Fling weekend. In the field at TRF it’s primative - only what you bring with you. But there’s a vast variety of camping, from open are with a sleepin bag up to the ultimate RV or fifth-wheel castle. We camped with our group. We keep a fairly primative campsite, with a 10’x14’ Kodiak canvas tent, a canopy, and a spare dome tent. In the main tent we use an air matrress, a two-person sleeping bag, and a propane heater. We have a folding table and a two-burner propane stove as our kitchen. Outside we have a fire pit (no ground fire allowed) and two folding chairs. All this along with our garb (costuming) is packed in our Mini Countryman. We use our car as secure storage. We keep our gab haning in the car including my kilts. The weather northwest of Houston, Texas, can be unpredictable. The last two seasons for this particular weekend, temperatures have varied from the low 80s during the day to as low as 45 degrees Fahrenheit, with rain or a chance of precipitation. It ain’t the heat; it’s the humidity, and this is what will make you sweat. There’s so much to cover that it can’t all be included here.

just was at TRF a couple weeks ago....tenting area there is large and has RV site but you don't have to go all old school as really its just a sleeping area although some will party way in the the morning. you can cook if you want but there are so many food vendors its not really needed. there are port-johns all over but bring extras TP. camping is just regular camping. you can wear whatever kilt there will be a lot of people. no body is doing period camping just have fun and take what you need

My camping set up is a tent that is made to set up in the bed of my truck. I have a Chevy avalanche. The back wall folds down to where the tent opens into the truck. If it’s too cold I just turn the truck on and let the heater run. Throw a mattress in the back and that’s it.

Lots of options when camping. My go to in Trail Life was a hammock. Now the wife and I have a tent and an air mattress. (Sorry Erik) I have slept on the ground and cots as well. Open air or tarp with the hammock. Cabins in some scenarios. My 27 ft camper for other possibilities. It already boils down to where, when, what your doing, who you are within the point of the trip.

My wife and I recently attended our first ren faire although we weren’t camping. We did come away with a couple of nice souvenirs. Otherwise, the experience was disappointing. The weather was hot and humid, the site was very crowded and the lines for the food vendors were the worst I’ve seen in a long time. We won’t be going back to that faire but we might try another one in 2024.

+USAKiltsOfficial *Thanks for the stylist perspective.* I'd recommend a _Feiladh mór,_ Highland shirt (your closest approach to a _Leine_ in flax), kilt belt with a Rob Roy day _Sporran,_ and authentic Ghillie brogues such as @NicoleRudolph crafts.

Weather was perfect this past weekend for TRF! 43,000 on Saturday and 34,000 people on Sunday. Too bad Renfest is over commercialized now and is loosing its magic quickly for greed.
