When you were watching the sunset I was struck with two thoughts. The beauty of God's creation is awesome. And, I don't understand how anyone could witness that and still think the earth is flat.

You know, those were pretty much the same thoughts I was having. I was actually thinking about the flat earth theory when we were there. Yes, God is awesome. And I think flat-earthers are a strange bunch. We appreciate you watching and commenting.

I’m also amazed with God’s creation and amazed that some people believe in the Big Bang theory. How can these intricate ecosystems, with diverse animal life, have been created from one thing crawling out of the muck after being struck with electricity? I live in Ohio (green, cows, corn/snow, etc) and visited my brother in Tucson AZ in the middle of the desert. How did one ‘bang’ create such difference? I say it required the guidance of the Master’s Hand.

@teresareed5597 Amen to that! I was actually talking about some of those things in Sunday School this morning...How ridiculous the entire theory of evolution, and abiogenesis really is.

@NCMemoryMakers 2 ай бұрын
@@janholt6850 Thank you for watching. We appreciate it, and are glad you enjoyed it. As for the location of the sunset, it's basically where I said in the video. If you know Highway 441 going across the Smokies, and if you know where Newfound Gap is, you simply go to the first overlook on the left after you pass over Newfound Gap. That is, if you're coming from Cherokee. It's before you get to the Ben Morton Overlook, which is just below where we were. If you are coming up from Gatlinburg towards Newfound Gap, it will be the overlook right past Ben Morton overlook...The last overlook on the right, before you reach Newfound Gap. If there is anything else I can clarify about the location, please let me know.

Amen to that! It just gets better for the one who knows Christ, once we are with Him. I was actually worried about the video being too long. We have a few that are that long or a little longer, but not many. I was worried about losing people's attention, but there was just so much in it. I did trim out about 5 minutes of it, or it would have been a little longer. I appreciate you watching to the end. I think you will probably enjoy what we've got coming up week of the 4th of July. Not really saying where it's going to be right now, but there's going to be a lot of good variety and a lot of nature stuff.

We used to stay at the El Camino motel, which is located right next to where the casino now is. But in that day, it was Frontierland theme park. Sadly, the El Camino is no longer in business, as the owner was shot and killed over a year ago.

If you decide to go to FL during the cooler months. Look into the State and County Parks by the Springs. Look into Ocala Natl Forest. Not Ocala. But the Forest. @@NCMemoryMakers awesome. We hope you enjoy it. We still have multiple videos from our Florida trip to get up. Coming home to my daddy being sick kinda put a halt on things. What we thought was a bloated belly and anxiety, turned into fluid on the lungs, which turned into two large blockages and harden of the arteries, which makes things more complex. First blockage required long stint to cover two blockages. Then bleeding somewhere, making it necessary for 2 pints of blood. Had to pull two blood thinners in order to get the blade to slow. He is on liquid diet. He needs a G.I. scope, but they do not want to put him to sleep to do it at his age and the fact that he’s been on blood thinners. The next stent placement is scheduled for June 18, however, we have to get the blade stopped first. It’s not looking great, but he is tough. I have been at the hospital every day and night a week ago, Friday. At this point, it is awaiting that game to see if he will be a candidate for second. Thank you for asking about my Daddy. It’s just very difficult when the man you’ve looked up to. it was always so strong in there for you is going through a tough time. Thank you for asking and for praying. We definitely need to put that camping trip on our bucket list. Looks like an awesome time and a beautiful place.

We actually did see a couple more on our way up to the sunset. None of them gathered together like usual, though. Just one here, and another one there.

How does it compare to Milehigh Campground ? If you had your choice which one would you choose?
@NCMemoryMakers
@NCMemoryMakers 2 ай бұрын
They are both nice. Depends on what you're looking for. Mile High Campground is much higher elevation (over 5,300 ft.), so is MUCH cooler. Also, it has more long range views of the mountains, while Indian Creek has none. Mile High has no creek to listen to, as a result of being so high in the mountains. Indian Creek is lower elevation (about 2,500 ft.), and is very cool in the mornings and evenings, but warms up a bit more during the day than Mile High. While it has no mountain views, it does have the relaxing creek to listen to. Indian Creek has the better store, by far. Both have shower houses that are good, but Indian Creek is the best in that regard. Mile High is closer to Maggie Valley, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and they are both about equal distance to Cherokee. Both are very quiet campgrounds, and great places to relax.

You should make a short video with just the sunset.

That would be nice, but I want to get a better sunset. This one was good, but if you notice when the sun was actually going down all the way, the wind kind of jarred my tripod a little bit and made it blur. You can actually see it shaking, and it messed up the focus. I'd like to be able to get the sunset all the way through, without any flaws. There will be other opportunities.

Wow. You sure are blessed to live in such a beautiful area. We love Cherokee, and I especially love going up Big Cove Road. So, do you know what happened with that tree alongside the steps going up to Mingo Falls? I guess it just fell over from a storm? It took out several steps with it.

Wonder what the temp would be like in the campground for just 4th. I have watched your mile high video and was so surprised by the temp change there

July 4th will probably be a bit warmer, but this campground is back in the mountains and along the creek, so that is why it got cooler than in town. We knew Mile High was going to be cool, because it's over a mile in elevation. It's always cool up there. Never gets hot. But yesterday morning when we woke up, the temperature was in the upper 40s. No matter when you come, I would still recommend maybe bringing a sweatshirt and pants. You may not need it, but it would be good to have, just in case. To get an idea of what the weather will be, just find out the elevation of the campground. On average, the temperature will drop 3-4 degrees for every 1,000 ft in elevation. Meaning, that Mile High will probably be anywhere from about 12-16 degrees cooler than in the valleys. And it can be even more than that.

@NCMemoryMakers we have reservations at grandfather mountain campground in Banner Elk over the fourth of July but this campground looks like a really nice place also. We haven't traveled or camped much in the mountains of western north carolina but we are always looking to cool off in the summer time as much as possible. Thank you so much for such a through in and out of the campground as well as the sites. And as yall like to be prepped I also agree with its better to bring it and not need it so I'll definitely pack for a cooler night temp no matter where we end up.

@@Mawmawonthego That's a good idea, especially if you're going to be camping in Banner Elk, which is pretty high elevation. It can cool down there in summer, especially at night and early morning. Have a great time!

Y'all should be able to take the dogs in a stroller most places. Another couple we follow takes their dog in everywhere they go except restaurants.

Yes, we have a dog stroller, and we take them lots of places in it. Including restaurants that allow outside, dog friendly seating. Not sure what you're getting at here, though. We didn't actually bring the stroller on the camping trip this time, however. Did I say something in the video about not being able to take the dogs somewhere? I don't remember everything we said.

@@SouthernM1M1 Thank you so much for your kind words. I couldn't remember if I had said something about a stroller. I did remember mentioning about leaving the dogs in the shade in the truck, right before we went up to the waterfall. No way we could have taken the stroller on that trail and up those steps, anyway. But yes, they love being pushed around in the stroller. We go up and down the streets of Gatlinburg with them in it, and the stores have no issue with it, either. They love it.

Our dog died in April..she was almost 16. We loved taking her on most of our trips, but on occasion we had to find a dog sitter. She was never one to be left alone, especially after she grew older. We plan on getting another dog maybe this time next year. We will be flying to Phoenix July 4 for a week..haven’t been on a plane in 27 years..😮
