I have had problems with my tent hitting the stove pipe and melting as well. Now I make certain that all of the anchor points on the tent around the pipe exit are well connected to prevent as much flapping as possible. I also try to make sure that when I set my tent up I have the pipe exit on the down wind side so maybe the tent will block most of the wind. I really enjoyed your video presentation. You guys are awesome! Thanks for sharing.
@2withnature19 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip! Yeah I added a guy line the next morning but it didn't fix the issue, the ground corner nearest to the stove jack had too much slack in the fabric because of the ground being uneven. But now I know to pay close attention to that area when I set it up.

A good video you got here on camping in the snow. One thing i have to say is there is no such thing as a hot tent any where unless you are staying in a Army tent which are the best but are heavy to move around and setup.
@2withnature10 күн бұрын
I agree. I've stayed in army tents and other heavy canvas tents with large stoves and they are very nice. Anything small and portable just wont stay warm during the night. But during the day they are nice.

My bad after watching the whole video you did seal the outside of the tent with snow good job👍
@2withnatureАй бұрын
Yup we did. But there's always the tradeoff, it created a lot more condensation inside the tent. One night of camping it isn't a big deal but multiple days of camping it's more important to ventilate and with this tent you'd be better off not sealing the walls with snow.
@JJBrown-lw1dvАй бұрын
I have that same wood stove. Upgraded the flue damper and the spark arrestor. Also bought two 45 degree angles to have it go out a board i put in my window in my cabin. It's an economy stove, but i like the window, makes a big difference to see the flame. Cabin is 10 x 24 with a tall ceiling and lofts in both ends. LIttle stove keeps the whole place plenty warm. I recommend putting snow on the bottom of your tent to dry it in. Can't really have a hot tent with freezing wind coming in all night. Props to you guys for toughing it out.
@2withnatureАй бұрын
I'm surprised it heats the whole cabin but good to know that it can. We like it for how sturdy it is compared to the titanium ones. We can put heavy cast iron on it no problem. We did put snow around the tent just not where the doorway was. But we used the door other than intended so we probably could have buried it too. Next time
@JJBrown-lw1dvАй бұрын
@ I use it on weekends and for a few days at a time. If I needed it to get me through winter after winter I’d get the titanium or stainless steel version. My damper failed, but I upgraded it. But yes, it takes a little bit to warm the place up, but once it’s warm, the cabin stays warm.
@2withnatureАй бұрын
I have a titanium one with the same size fire box and it isn't any warmer and it's not as nice to use. Since titanium is so strong they make the walls ultra thin so they are ultra light for backpacking. That's the only advantage to a titanium stove. Every other advantage goes to the other stoves.
@user-yu1zp2vu9x27 күн бұрын
I have a 10x24 shed that I use for a cabin. In the winter I use a small cast iron stove. It is definitely too heavy to carry around. It will burn for several hours and stay warm all night without adding wood. It’s fantastic to cook on. I have been using it for seven years and it is going to outlast my shed and my person. It could be something useful to you as well.
@JJBrown-lw1dv25 күн бұрын
@ would love a small cast iron. It would hold heat better at night.
@DavidVanderberg-t4sАй бұрын
You should stake your tent closer to the ground and pile snow against your tent to keep the drafts down 😃
@2withnatureАй бұрын
Yeah the big issue was the ground was real uneven where we set up. But we saw that snow storm coming in so we just set it up right then and there and did the best we could with the location. So some corners were not all the way taught because the ground was too close and other corners were much farther off the ground.

On the outside should put some snow around the bottom of the tent so no air will come in from the bottom and the tent would stay a lot warmer.
@2withnature19 күн бұрын
We did and it made a huge difference. I just didn't where the door is
@jerrylim228229 күн бұрын
I would close the gap at the bottom of the tent with either snow or a long one piece log to make it more comfortable to sleep at night.
@JimBearyАй бұрын
I was so, so waiting for you to either shovel out that snow and ice or to cover it. You guys were basically sleeping in a freezer! A lot tougher than me!
@2withnatureАй бұрын
Haha yeah, I wanted to but everything always takes more time than planned and by the time I could it was turned into ice. That is the biggest thing I would've changed though, all of our discomfort on this trip came from the cots sliding around slowly throughout the night.
@GeoffGale2 күн бұрын
You could cut dead wood to length of side, tie it along the bottom with paracord to help weigh tent down.
@2withnature22 сағат бұрын
We put snow on the sides but in hindsight we shouldn't have. It caused the condensation build up and we would have been much drier and warmer in the sleeping bags if we left the side skirts open.
@1552mjp23 сағат бұрын
Why don’t people put snow around the base of the tent to block up the spaces? It looks so cold.😊
@2withnature22 сағат бұрын
We did, just not at the door. We shouldn't have though. It's traps the moisture inside making it more cold. The best way is to build a wall around the tent but with a gap between the wall and the tent. That blocks the wind but allows air flow, but we didn't take the time to do this.

Hey my new family of the woods 😊. So that one tigress tent isn’t very warm or it requires a larger tent stove to make it decent at night??? I was thinking 💭 of trying it but had mixed emotions about it!!! But as usual a pleasure to see my new family together doing adventures (still wish I could have found a wife like yours) the ones I found were prissy and wouldn’t get their nails and hair dirty 🫣. But I’m glad to see you guys doing it for me. Now I’m old and decrepit 🥹😅😂🤣😇😇😜🤪🤨. Can’t go out there like that. I will always pray for you two to be safe and happy 😊 while making these videos for us. SEMPER FI
@2withnatureАй бұрын
Hey, the One Tigres tent is actually pretty good for what it is, which is a very lightweight tent with a lot of room inside. Little wood stoves like this that are portable while hiking or pulling a sled will usually not be enough to make it toasty inside any tent during the night. But if you get close to the stove, then it will keep you warm and it can dry out any gear you get wet. The only wood stoves that can keep it warm in the night is going to be so big you'll need some type of vehicle or atv to transport it. Thank you for your service!
@pakleader4Ай бұрын

@2withnatureАй бұрын
A lot of hot tents don't come with integrated floors. A floor is nice but not a must have and so they leave them out a lot probably to save on weight. There's advantages and disadvantages to both.

Putting a tent up between two large trees with wind gusting is not what experienced campers do.
@garyanderson9467Ай бұрын
At least you had a wood stove. But I’d never camp in a tent without a floor.
@2withnatureАй бұрын
It's not bad having no floor, but it's best having both. A tent with a floor and a large vestibule area with no floor. We should've taken the time to get rid of the snow on the inside before we started burning the stove. When I had time it had already turned to ice.
@bettesimmon166Ай бұрын
Do your homework on how to put up a warm tent without air holes, line your entire floor with pine branches, and that tent is too thin. That tent is for warmer weather.
@carlasmith5165Ай бұрын
I hope the company who create that tent took note. That was a lot of condensation and ice. I thought the bottle of water burst! I’m sure next time you will be more prepared. What ever happened to the cabin you two built?
@2withnatureАй бұрын
Yeah that's a problem with any tent made of this material. I think next time I'm going to take a towel lol. The cabin is doing great. We've been working on projects there just not as aggressively as last year. We'll have a couple videos of it up in January.
@wjp255Ай бұрын
(1) The tent fabric would be way too thin for me to use. In that kind of weather, you definitely need a better tent. For me it would be canvas with a tarp over the outside of it staked down. (2) There is NO WAY that I would have left the bottom of the tent open to the wind. It would have to have a tent floor and also have a "snow wall" on the windward side about 6 inches to help deflect some of the wind from the ground. Best of luck.
@2withnatureАй бұрын
Yeah canvas tents are much more luxurious for a hot tent. This one is lightweight enough that I could hike far with it but it just doesn't breathe at all. The only part I left open was around the door, but I should've buried that as well. Now we know for next time.

@2withnatureАй бұрын
We really want to try a dome. We've used tipis in the past and don't like them as much. I like this shape better than a tipi but the fabric collecting all the condensation is an issue
