We spent four days camping with our good friends ‪@ChambersFamilyOverland‬ in the Oregon high desert. It was a good first test of our new 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Offroad to see how it would do overlanding on Oregon public lands.
We visited three stunning locations: Glass Butte, the Alvord Desert, and Sisters. We travelled over 1,300 miles and spent the night in a different location each day.
Glass Butte is littered with obsidian volcanic glass as far as the eye can see. We had a wonderful time looking around for interesting pieces to take home to give to friends and family.
The Alvord Desert was absolutely stunning, and we would have loved to have spent more time there, but the mosquitoes were next level horrendous, so we decided to leave the following morning to find another spot closer to home that wasn't infested with ravenous insects.
We drove over eight hours from the Alvord Desert to camp in a lovely spot in Sisters, OR right across from Black Butte. It was a perfect spot to cap off an amazing trip with amazing friends!

Thank you! We would have liked to have gotten more footage but with all the driving and mosquitoes it just didn't work out. But still had enough to put something together. Thanks for watching!

I love this. 100% the style I like. For “not filming much” you certainly got all the feeling in it! Could be my new favorite

Thank you! I definitely enjoy storytelling without talking when it works and if I have the right footage. But I still wished I had filmed more, like when we were searching for that third camp spot and ended up bailing on it for something at lower elevations, or when we were running for our lives with the mosquitoes. haha.

@@VegaVenturinghaha yes!! I filmed very little searching for the camp spot on the mountain too. It’s hard to remember to film every single little thing when you just want to enjoy the trip too. Have to utilize the GoPro just running on the dash or the hood for that! (PS that’s Marshall commenting above 😂)

Thank you! It was a lot of driving in a short amount of time but you guys can relate to that! The new rig is awesome. Can't wait to make some upgrades. We still have the van but it is in the shop getting work done. The 4Runner will be our main adventure rig from now on. 4WD is a must. Thanks for watching!

Looks like a fun trip at some great locations with good people :) I just bought a 2023 4runner offroad premium so i'd love to hear any thoughts you have on yours while on this trip.

Ours is the Offroad premium as well. It is AWESOME. It's very comfortable on the road and being able to shift into 4WD on the fly was useful on this trip. There was one section where we got into some heavy silt and putting it into 4WD helped eliminate rear slipping. Granted, our tires are terrible for offroad use. We will be upgrading soon. We averaged around 21mpg on the highway, which was good for a 4runner. That will get worse as we start doing some mods. I also love the size of the 4runner. It feels tiny after driving the full-size van on trails for nearly three years. I enjoy how it's easier to maneuver than what we had before. We're also super impressed with the build quality of this rig. I finally see why there's a cult following for 4runners. It's built like a tank. It just oozes quality. We couldn't be happier with it so far!

Lovely footage throughout, you have a great eye for a good shot. Love watching stuff like this to get ideas. We just don’t have these wide open wildernesses in which to wander in Ireland, everywhere is basically owned by someone, non the less these places inspired me to try to reinvent overlanding in the network camping idea here in Ireland. It’s worked in its own way. Will be following along in your adventures on here.

Thank you! Over here we have State forests, National Forests, and BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land. These are all public lands that we can explore for free, and are usually allowed to camp at. The general rule is you can stay in a single spot for up to 14 days, then after must move to another location. Oregon is a massive state, and lot of central and eastern Oregon is sparsely populated with huge stretches of vast land. It can take us 8 hours to travel to a single spot in our own state. We put lots of miles on our rigs, but the trip is always worth it. Thanks for watching!
