I love the bushcraft element to this video! I've always been fascinated by this aspect of wild living since I learned about the SOE units of WW2, and then in more modern times, how people like Ray Mears do things. Sadly, I usually struggle unless I'm in a Hilton, but there is something inside me that finds this kind of world very appealing. I think it's because I've often struggled a lot with anxiety and confidence issues, and I see a quiet, comfortable inner-resilience in camping. Maybe one day I'll get there.

@cimarronwoo12 күн бұрын
@@feldgraufox4927 Either works fine. I like to roll mine for: One, it makes it is easier to deploy. You know exactly where your head & feet will go in relation to the tent (since the inner tent is at a slight diagonal compared to the outer rectangle. Two, it minimizes the risk of the inner tent exposed to rain if setting up in wet weather. And three, it rolls up slightly smaller than stuffed, thus saving some space.

I’ve got the 1 and 2 man version of the X-Mid and have had full-coverage footprints made by the brilliant Lucy from Quintcraft. Did the same for me when I had the Scarp 1 and 2. Can highly recommend her work - she makes all sorts of bespoke camping stuff, does repairs etc and gives a great service. You’ll need to use the poles ‘pointed end up’ with the X-Mid footprint, unless you have holes or eyelets made in the footprint for them to poke through.

Great tip! And @Paul: don‘t be afraid of using the poles ‚pointed end up‘ - I was afraid as well in the beginning but then found out, it‘s safe when beeing careful while pitching the tent. Put the poles to the final lenght before putting them in, that let them stay in place when placing them.

Very nice video Paul. Enjoyed it thoroughly. I also have the bushbox titanium. It is a cute little stove, though even the titanium version is a tad heavy. I tend to do a lot of "prep" first, pack the box (not too tightly, leave plenty of generous gaps) with a mix of material. Then you light your little fire outside and drop it in. But having a little mountain of material ready to feed the stove with makes life easier. A small silky saw, 13-17cm is nice to combine it with. It's also good to see gear in the flesh and not end up fancying it afterall, the Durston isn't for me. Shall stick to my Hillies
