Camping In The Rain

I set out on a camping adventure to test out a tent in the rain. The task was simple, find a location, set up the tent, eat delicious food, and wait for rain. I was successful. I tested the tent in two ways. 1. how well it would perform in the rain 2. how did it fair as a winter hot tent. The Eddie Bauer 3 season tent took on some rain through the night which I was a bit dissatisfied with. The amount of rain would have only allowed me to brush my teeth but not rinse. So hence the dissatisfaction as I was looking forward to banging on my fangs. The tent performed well with the Mr. Heater Portable Buddy. With many windows throughout the tent, I was able to easily ventilate any odorless harmful gasses that may have been produced from the buddy heater and reached temps over 100f/37c. I was not as successful In ridding any other gasses that may have been produced during the night (Thank you dinner) as they seemed to linger but dissipated with time.

Really nice tent. I believe they have a small battery powered air pump. They supposedly work great. Also good idea to bring some soft camp shoes so you can take those boots off. Again, always enjoy your videos. Learn as we go.

Expensive, ultralight is for people who don't work out. I did the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island with a 30 dollar tent from Target and it did well. The best gear is the one you have.

Thanks, I appreciated the temp checks. My Buddy heater and a small tent that I am able to stand in ( as opposed to being on my knee's) was a real game changer for cold weather. I do run my heater all night but I'm absolutely sure there is plenty of ventilation ( have a CO detector also.) Almost too much ventilation really as It takes little to feel a draft. Although it can be very safe its also absolutely solid advice in general just to use when awake.

The Buddy heater has an O2 sensor (Oxygen Depletion Sensor) and will turn off if it detects a problem with the oxygen.

I know this is been over a year ago so I’m sure you don’t read anything that’s this far away but I always love to find adventure wherever it can be and that is one beautiful backyard that you have. Nothing wrong to pitch a tent there. If I had a place like that would be they turn out they’re on a platform all the time. Yeah I know I just love outdoors. One thing though I would’ve put a tarp down so turn doesn’t get Muddy

We have an Ozark trail tent and with a tarp in steady rain found it ok,also we found that camp beds are better as the air mattress went down in the night,have you tried the mini barbeque for cooking can recommend it , enjoyed the video just found your channel . Best wishes from Hereford uk

Still not a fan of cold camping but you do make it look fun. The last month we camp is in sept, in the sand hills of Nebraska in Mckelvie national forest in Valentine Nebraska. Sometimes it'll get in the 20s. If I were to use a thermometer I would hang it at head height sitting level or sleeping level to know true temp. I love your videos Kenny, so I hope you don't think I'm being a butt head. I'm just making suggestions. Keep up the great work my friend.
