Hi I’m Paul and I love the outdoors, especially wild camping in the UK
In this video I head out to the Long Mynd in Shropshire. I pitch my tent on a hill called Callow. it gets a bit windy but it was still a great little outdoor adventure.

You can learn the easy way, or the hard way. I learnt the hard way. It's all very well to urge caution, but cooking that close to your flysheet can end badly, as it did for me in Knoydart some years back. It's astonishing how quickly a canister-top stove can transform itself into a gas-powered blowtorch that consumes your tent in seconds. That gizmo for your pot is called a trivet, by the way.

Loved the longer format Paul. Would love to see perhaps a two nighter. Also loved the idea of gear hacks. An idea you mentioned about the powdered egg, would you consider a series where you prepare and cook your meals at home then dehydrate them yourself and then review them when you're on a wild camp? Keep up the good work you're smashing it! Can't wait to possibly bump into one day up the peaks haha

Back in the early 1990's for 3 years I used to camp most weekends and every holiday on the Long Mynd in all weathers to save the money the gliding club bunk house would have cost helping to pay my flying fees. I should have offered to test equipment because I was camping at least 100 nights a year and tents rarely lasted more than a year up on those hills. Your video brings back many happy memories of time spent in a tent on the gem that is the Long Mynd.

Hi Paul - greetings from the Midlands. 'Callow Hill' - to me that's the site of one of the collieries that Maggie scuppered nr Swadlincote in teh 80s, S Derbys but - to digress. Now that looks a tent that might defy the wind better. Terra Nova posh gloves between £35 and £60+ - THEY OUGHT TO DO YOUR JOBS FOR YOU! They cost more than some of my tents. My kid gloves with the lining stripped out cost me a fiver and keep the wind and cold off sufficient for all my needs. I didn't see you as a 'brands' person. Their Meridian gloves AT NINETY POUNDS could buy a host of camping kit! YOU COULD ONCE GET A DECENT PAIR OF HIKING BOOTS FOR THAT! I know it's not you but somebody is kidding somebody. My Alkita M/cycle gloves cost 60% less than that and have to deal with a lot more weather and several other (extreme) events. I don't think I'll be taking up the Terra Nova discount business discounts. But thanks all the same. Sleeping kit - I'll stick to my usual. In less than warm weather I use a silver survival blanket (cheap as chips used to be) + foam mat + Trad full-length Thermarest self-inflating mattress with a basic sleeping bag to suit the season, Rarely had a bad night's sleep. Silver blanket unnecessary in hot weather when ground is warm. I like the way that you attach spreaders underneath the stove to give it more stability. Truly good sense, especially in a confined environment. My Trangia avoids those problems. Brilliant pack mods. OH NO! STEAK AGAIN! See my other comments. As for wind. the look and sound of it was more like Force 4-5 - it was certainly no breeze. Correction - more like 5-6! Last comment - Glenfidich is a malt. Try Glen Moray if you can get it - usually slightly cheaper and it will surprise you. All best wishes to you , bro',and despite some of my comments, Count me as a 'fan'. Paul

I saw a comment once on your channel from another user I want to echo, I think what makes your videos entertaining is the constant changing of camera angles and the different shots used. It keeps things engaging as a viewer even on the longer form videos. Personally, I prefer longer videos because the shorter ones tend to follow the same format due to being condensed, its always going to be walk up, arrive, pitch, cook, sleep, break, leave. I think you run the risk of "seen one, seen em all." I appreciate longer form ones are similar but you get more opportunity to make each video a bit different and show whats unique about a trip which is what will keep people coming back. That's my 2 pence.

I like the longer videos personally, when it's relevant. I suppose a 50 minute video on your favourite hiking boots would feel excessive, but when there's content to be put in the video, I'd always say put it in. I mostly watch videos whilst I'm working, they play on the TV like a bit of background entertainment. I'll rewind or pause when required, but a longer video always feels better to me.

Customer service is poor and its impossible to get spare poles, even for a tent that is barely 3 month old. Around here it’s never a good idea to cook even near your tent or other gear. Best case it’s raccoons that will visit in the night, worst case a bear. You don’t want food smells in your kit. Looks like fun though! In rain we toss up a tarp over a ridge line and cook away from sleeping area. Keep tarp away from tent/clothing kit when packed.

Great video, as usual. We were up on the Long Mynd last Autum in a campervan. Great area.
