Back in 1980, my uncle and a buddy went on a long-distance snowmobile trip in Maine. After travelling on a long markerless trail for several hours, they came out of some woods to open space with a hill to their left that had a cabin on top of it, smoke coming from the chimney. They rode up there, knocked, and a lone fellow inside invited them in to warm up & have coffee. They told him they were lost. He asked where they'd come from. When they told him, he said, "Well, for starters, the US is about 30 miles back in the direction you came from. This is New Brunswick." A different time. 🙂

It's not risky really. I've seen > a baker's dozen baker's dozen black bears on foot (200+, though some were no doubt the same bear.) Been between a mom & cubs twice. That's to be avoided of course. The real think you gotta do is *cook away from sleep spot, do toiletries away, and hang your food & toiletries 20' up 6' out.* Bears are super cool. I love seein' bears. You are WAY more likely to get injured by deadfall than by bears. WAY more. Watch out for those widowmakers. Also black widows & brown recluses & poisonous snakes. All more dangerous statistically than bears.

I just love those shots of Chief Mountain rising above the Montana range! I've only seen that mountain from the Canadian side. Cheers to our US friends.

Thanks for telling what mountain it was. I was wondering how Steve can see that on the horizon and not make a comment about it lol.

I'd seen it earlier this year outside Glacier but couldn't figure out that's what it was. Thanks better view than frm the southeast

That "pretty impressive chunk of rock" is Chief Mountain in Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. A sacred place for the Blackfeet Nation and the gateway to the Belly River Basin, one of the most beautiful places on Earth (imo)!

I peaked at Google maps and found that spot where you slept Steve. That border marker appears to be 4 feet south of the actual border. So.. congratulation on your first successful American stealth camp?

This channel teaches. Steve is a teacher, and has taught me how to use shelter to survive. And he’s such a nice guy. Just want to thank you Steve for letting us into your world, your way of life. As a native Montanan I respect your use of land, and how conscious you are about keeping a clean camp and not bothering anyone. This is pretty special channel. You’re stuck with us Steve. Cheers friend, wishing you love and good blessings Steve.

Steve, you are the living proof that just being yourself is the best way for having sucses. Most people didn't like the pompousness that you see in so many other you tube channels. The simplicity when you go camping, your type of humor, your unpretentniousness is unbeatable. Irma from the Netherlands
