Camping on the Buffalo National River at Steele Creek! (2/3) -May 2021

On Derick's short break, the week after he graduated law school, we took the boys on a last minute camping trip on the Buffalo National River! We had a blast camping and hiking at Steele Creek and visited Kyle's Landing before heading home!
In this video: we check in on how the first night tent camping with the kids went, we take a tour around Steele Creek campground, spot some critters on our long Buffalo River Trail hike and picnic, wash poison ivy off in the river, go into town in search of firewood and dinner, then come back to the camp for a cozy fire and bedtime! Jill, I watched you on the show while I was growing up, and well into my adulthood. Inexpensive shower option...2 metal washtubs, an umbrella, and a Dollar Store Shower curtain. Fill one tub with water and heat it on the fire. Open the umbrella and pop holes into it. Put empty tub under a tree, hang the umbrella from the tree, hang the shower curtain from the umbrella. Use a pitcher or bucket to pour water into upside down umbrella, get wet soap up, more water to rinse off. Plastic to step on after shower is helpful....

Quick tip for coolers is freeze a few milk jugs prior to going and it keeps things really cold and we always bring frozen meat so it lasts longer except for the first days meal

I never camped growing up. The few times I camped as an adult were fine but I didn't have the right equipment to make it enjoyable and to make it so I'd want to do it again. When I had kids and they wanted to group camp with friends is when I figured it out. Decent tent, good sleeping bags, and a Coleman camp stove! Ya gotta have coffee! I don't have fancy or expensive equipment but I have what we need for a comfortable experience. It fits in 3 Rubbermaid totes and I can pack us in a couple hours. We have rooftop storage for the tent and chairs. This past year we added an air mattress...only way my husband will go! Lol. 63 and still camping! Oh, my favorite place to camp is the ocean...I sleep so good.

Part two looks so fun! What are some of your ways to get ticks off? They never use to be so bad in Nova Scotia but in the last few years they have been nuts! I have always just spun them counter clockwise, I'm always looking for better ways from people who are more used to them living in a warmer part of the earth. Wild Kratts is such a great show!! I remember when it was called Zoboomafoo. The Kratt brothers are so cool!
