As a kid and teen I was lucky enough to stay at the Dunk Is resort four or five times, it was the family's favourite spot to holiday. It's a shame that the resort was wiped out and now it will be a high-end resort (it used to be affordable for a weekend away). I thought before you got spooled that your gear was way too small. I caught a couple of monster Spanish mackerels from the jetty one year, but I had much sturdier overhead reels and heavier lines, etc. As an older teen, we would camp at the camp sites, you could catch the ferries over and didn't need a boat.

Good work Luke, but……Backing up on a big fish is really dangerous, good chance of swamping the boat. Cool to fish out the back if you are on anchor but if you are drifting, work yourself to the front of the boat and then get your decky to chase it and get some line back - much safer and more likely to stay with the fish. Also towing lures behind the boat is trolling, trawling is done by a trawler that drags nets on the sea floor.

Luke, love your vids but a quick heads up: if you're going to continue posting drone footage you need to become familiar with Australia's drone laws. The laws for flying drones in Oz are strict with massive fines and possible jail time. A bit of quick advice, never fly your drone near or over an airport/airfield, it's illegal. The airstrip on Dunk Island is very much operational.
