Best channel on KZbin! Great picture! By the way, the petroglyph is not an arch or a rainbow, it's a portal. Just kidding 🙂

What I dig about this is: This is THE MOST cost effective for a good galaxy focal length AND speed. Very smart!

Thanks Kyle. As you can probably see from the side mounts in the telescope, it started off as a dobsonian. I still have the alt-az mount and use it for lunar and planetary imaging. But I put rings on the scope so that I could mount it on an equatorial Mount and it’s awesome for galaxies. Thanks a ton for watching and commenting!

Looked a great place to be in, reminds me of some of our desert areas here down under. Sometimes these places have a charm all of there own. Nice video.

I would love to visit Australia again and spend some time there. When I was in my late twenties I was sent there for work for a week, but I was in Sydney the entire time. Sydney was beautiful. But it’s the “Outback” I would love to explore and experience someday. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Lance that was absolutely spectacular!!! You definitely cannot do better for galaxy's than with a Newtonian. Period!! I use to be more familiar with the NGC catalog. Would love to join you some time, I have a grandson who would simply love this. Have you ever been to Lake Crowley? Eastern Sierra near Bishop CA. Altitude of 7000ft, zero trees beautiful night view. Only a suggestion. Thank you very much, you are excellent with astro photography.
@adventuresofshadowdog2 ай бұрын
Daniel, thanks for the kind words. I have been told by others too that the Bishop CA area is worth checking out for rockhounding. The altitude and remote nature would also make it ideal for astrophotography. Do you live near there?

That was a great image Lance, even more so considering the full moon. I reckon if you removed the vegetation from the landscape it would be the spitting image of Mars.
@adventuresofshadowdog2 ай бұрын
Thank You, John! Yes, the landscape is very Mars like. It would be the perfect place to film a sci-fi movie that takes place on Mars. 🤪

Hey Lance, another unbelievable video. The night sky in Snow Canyon is awesome! Can you tell me if you like your Flated Air Carrier. We need suggestions for a new rooftop box?

I’ve been hiking around in there my whole life and never knew there were petroglyphs. That’s what I get for not paying attention lol
@adventuresofshadowdog2 ай бұрын
They aren’t easy to find. I would be misleading if I said I found them all on my own. I was told there were petroglyphs in that area. So I knew if I just kept hunting I would eventually find them. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

Nice video and image. I noticed no diffraction spikes. Do you have a curved vane spider? If you do how is it for holding colimnation?
@adventuresofshadowdog2 ай бұрын
That’s a great question. I have a standard Newtonian and the diffraction spikes show up on some stars and not on others. The image you saw was cropped in a lot. There were no diffraction spikes within the cropped area. I didn’t even pay attention to that until you commented. Now I’m going to go back and look at the entire image as I’m curious. Thanks for the comment!

Hi shadow. How do you guide in Sharpcap? Do you use the live stack or do you stack at home
@adventuresofshadowdog2 ай бұрын
Okay, so I use SharpCap to capture the images as individual FIT files AND to Live Stack. And I save a copy of the Live Stack image. But, after the imaging session I use DeepSkyStacker to stack the FIT files to produce a stacked TIF file. I then run the TIF image file through photoshop for post processing. Occasionally, the LiveStack version is so good I process it to in PhotoShop and decide which is better. But usually the version run through DeepSkyStacker is best. As to guiding, SharpCap can do that, but I have yet to master how. Instead, I rely on PHD2. One of these days I need to master SharpCap guiding and also plate solving. I hope this helps! Any recommendations?
