That first black bear most definitely was a very healthy looking bear. Your video amongst so many others I've watched and all my own personal encounters with black bears, just reinforces my belief that a black bear really wants absolutely nothing to do with humans. Of course if you get in between a sow and her cubs or a bear that may feel cornered, you're definitely going to see an aggressive bear. By NO means am I saying to not take every necessary precaution to protect yourself, but in general and based on my personal experiences along with other peoples experiences, it seems in general black bears are more afraid of you, than you are of them. Safe travels!!

That's my sense of them too although I did have two encounters with black bears that were more confrontational for sure. In those cases it can turn around quickly, so it's always good to be careful, be prepared, and be assertive. Thanks brother! And safe travels to you too

I was sh*tting my pants during this. You are so calm Joseph. A couple years back an acquaintance who worked in forestry was fixing an animal fence. Had her back turned. A bear creeped up on her and mauled her to death. Was the freakiest thing. She was bear trained so wasn’t doing dumb things like feeding the bears. And knew what to look and listen for. The bear killed her. But didn’t eat her and in fact abandoned her after the kill. It sadly was all caught on a trail cam. No rhyme or reason. I always keep that in mind when people say they are more scared of us. Doesn’t always apply to every bear. Was also not cub season. Be safe!!

Oh yeah 💯 running into a grizzly is more scary for sure. However black bears can be tricky. Most of the time they run for it, but every now and again they're not fazed at all and sometimes take an interest in you.( that's scary - it's happens twice to me, but luckily I was able to assert myself enough to keep it from coming any closer. ) bear spray and other deterrents are a must have in bear country. They are the second last defence you have.

Enjoyed the bears. Hope there is no grizzlies around there. I feel bad for the second bear. It didn't look well. Hope it is getting enough to eat. I admire how you took the bears in stride. I would have been calmly scared, if that makes any sense.

It's always situational. If it was a big grizzly on that road between me and my van I would have been shitting myself. Some black bears can be pretty bold to so you never know, but being loud and assertive can go a long way with them and usually they run for it. Always good to have bear spray just incase.

Always cool to see bears as long as it's at a distance. Hopefully the grizzly's that have swam over up to the north part of the island don't stay and continue to swim back. Be a helluva thing to run into while diving! LOL! Maybe a bit of axe and machete work, you could clear a rough trail to the beach, if the beach is worth it.

Thank you Joseph. Awesome video. That coast looked amazing, so I hope in the near future that you can get back there and have some success, finding your way to the water AND the fish! 😊 🏊♂️ 🤿🐟 🌊 My niece has lived in Vancouver for yrs. Her family have had no issues with the black bears. They see them occasionally near the house, but she said it's only because one of their neighbours too regularly doesn't secure their garbage cans properly. They have come across them while hiking also, but the bears make themselves scarce fairly quickly and family have never felt in fear of them. But they are always cautious just the same..safe and happy travels Joseph 🤳 🌞👋 🚐 🌏 🧭

At least you have enough open land for the bears, In FL I have been seeing them so often, in people's yards, mama bears trying to cross the highway with her babies, I live in the NW region of the state. Now the governor passed a law if they try to attack you can shot them. It's from builders taking over the wooded land. I am worried for them.

That last Bear by your van, could it have been a young one. I noticed it was poor looking, not very healthy looking. We have black bears here in our mountains. They have been reintroduced here. Most have been dumpster divers from the city. Nuisance bears that visitors to the parks have tried to feed. And now they have no real fear of man, dangerous animals.
@SharingTheWild4 ай бұрын
Yes a fed bear is a dangerous bear. Same with sharks and any sort of apex predator. They evolved to hunt and scavenge for food so when we hand it out to them they remember that and then associate us with food. While it may be fun in the moment for some people to feed animals, it creates a dangerous dynamic for the next person in that animals life path. Oh yeah and the little bear is probably fine. This time of year there isn't as much to forage for but a lot of berries are becoming rip now and salmon season is about to start too. He'll fatten up in no time. The first one was remarkable!
