Girl, being emo + black is hard af. It's isolating. Meanwhile, white girls are not only a mainstay of the emo culture but can can be part of kawaii/cosplay aesthetic and be given opportunities IN JAPAN for it. Putting black girls (or people) in a box is cruel mainly because we didn't ask for this. I want to be able to like the things I like and not be judged.

Yup. Had a black dude say something of similar affect in that whites can look good in whatever or for example cosplay as whatever but black girls should stick to black characters. @@ami4511 not surprised. Can’t think of any either. They love whiteness. People excuse it with the fact that Japan is majorly homogenous and they never see black people but if that were truly the case why do they favor whiteness….By that logic they wouldn’t see much white people either but yet they favor whiteness like blue eyes blonde hair etc. and also they never see black people but yet are able to take black likeness and showcase it? Come on now. There’s white dudes who get hired there just so the company can have a white persona lol. With that said, in Korea there is an upcoming mixed model who is iirc part kenyan and she actually LOOKS half black. and there’s also a black kpop idol. But you can imagine the anti black hate she gets. :/

I cared a lot (I recently just discovered this) growing up but after a while I stopped caring specifically after I got to college ESPECIALLY when I went to a PWI for two years. All skinfolk ain’t kinfolk. I was teased for liking “white people things” “Asian people things” my entire life. After a while I realized that everyone doing the same thing and liking the same thing FOR THE SAKE of trying to fit in will get you nowhere. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with genuinely liking what everyone else likes but I’m not about to follow a trend for the sake of fitting in if it costs me being uncomfortable

Individuality is not dead. Individuality was never a thing. Society has always largely been about conforming. Those who stepped outside the box, have always been shunned/ostracized to create their own niches. Social media once again just exacerbates what has always existed in our society - in this case, the need or push to conform.

The other day, my little sister was talking about a party she went to and that the music was trash. She said they were playing songs like Party in the USA and stuff. I told her that I know we know that song (we grew up on Disney) and that she should've danced too. My older sister said that that song is lame and that they should've played some NBA Young boy songs instead. I said that he's sucks because he hates BW (even the ones in his family), so my older sister basically said that it sucks that I'm acting white and that she wouldn't dance to Party in the USA either. understandable, but party is the usa came out over 10 years ago…nostalgic yes, but playing old Disney music would make me feel like a little kid lmao. disney vibes is not the way anymore. if they are playing “white music”, there’s endless white artists who have awesome music that has came out in the past couple months even, that would fit the party scene. not young miley Cyrus wearing American gear, pre trump, pre everything. i don’t listen to nba young boy but i do know he is current, with a more fresher sound despite the genre, it’s simply a different time. if it was 2010 i doubt party in the USA would be an L in the club lmao, the genre pop was ontop. now rap is ontop, and nba curates rap music, which is a genre known for their invigorating bass that you can feel through your veins depending on what speaker use. it all depends.

Within the UK, this has been a TikTok topic for a few months, as many people were offended by a girl (they also came for people who agreed with this narrative) stating that there is a UK black girl aesthetic (30+ inch buss down, gym sets/yagiwrld tracksuits, bright undereye, long nails, etc.) after a girl went viral for saying that if you do not spend £1.5k on your maintenance (wigs, nails, lash extensions, etc.) you look like a troll. Flash forward a few months a girl claims her former friend is copying her aesthetic and every single look that she does, bear in mind the former friend claims that they are both inspired by Jayda Wayda and Nicki Minaj (we UK black girlies do love us some Jayda Wayda) so although her former friend may not have any sense individuality neither does she as they both strive to essentially be Jayda Wayda. This whole sitch led to a trend where girls would make a TikTok stating that if you don't dress like the UK black girl aesthetic or are looking for an alternative aesthetic which was just pushing other common black girl aesthetics that are not as prevalent as the one I mentioned earlier but still very common. It could also be argued that you only see this aesthetic online because you either subscribe to it or like the aesthetic because in reality when you walk around on a day-to-day basis you may not frequently see this aesthetic or may only see it in certain areas. *Individuality is 100 % dead online and I will say it is slowly dying in real life as many do not separate their real life from social media anymore* However I just don't feel like that looks wise that individuality has ever been a thing and it definitely won't ever be so *I think what makes us an individual and unique is: the way we behave, our minds, our opinion, and our personality.* Although we may have a similar personality as other people or behave like someone else there would always be something distinctive about us that will therefore make us unique. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS BTW 🫶🏾

🎀🎀 Thank you for this video, I agree with EVERY single point!! There are so many unique styles and looks now, and I'm happy more melanated women and girls feel comfortable enough to experiment with their fashion and have fun with it, finally feeling free. However, I do feel like the trend right now, and it's not just for us, is that you HAVE to be unique, special, extraordinary, etc. in order to be cool, whereas in the past, you were mocked, bullied and outcasted for it. :-/ At this point, and this will sound corny LOL, just do you and cast away all of your insecurities and outside negativity. I didn't know AaliyahsInterlude and her style was hated on, or at least given a hard time. :-0 I had to look her up, but I've seen her pictures on Pinterest here and there. Back to the point; maybe it's because we have a variety of aesthetics (I was trying to avoid using this word 😆😆) at the moment, but I feel like her particular fashion is the look that's currently "in", especially for melanated women and girls, so I'm confused on the backlash. On second thought, there ARE close-minded melanated people out there so....... Regardless, it's a possibiliy that she was the pioneer of that style, and if she is, then props to her!! I was also under the rock for that JT birthday thing. She looks really pretty (JT is a really stunning woman ❣❣) and the makeup is nice. I'm just not here for the (straight and wavy hair) wigs and the hypersexualized look anymore (the latter is to be expected though, it's the City Girls 🤷🏾‍♀🤷🏾‍♀). Either way, all the hate she received was not necessary. *EDIT (forgot that I wanted to add this part):* on your thumbnail, it says "it's giving drag queen" and something else that I don't remember, and I just wanted to say that I don't like the recent makeup styles that have been marketed to melanated women for the past few years and they are essentially that, DRAG QUEEN styles. Those makeup techniques are for men who want to look like us, and it's just not natural on a woman, with all the harsh lines & angles and heavy makeup. Makeup is to enhance and have fun with, not to make you look like a totally different person. :-/ To touch on your last point, the "masculine" melanated woman thing is a LIE. We've always been feminine, we're women ♀♀(the original ones at that), so it's a given. 😌😌 I've grown up with nothing but feminine, almost hyperfeminine melanated women, so I'm confused AND baffled by these colorist and anti-black female sentiments. Plus, if we want to keep it VERY real, this narrative has been brought up to elevate trans woMEN and to push us down, futhering our DEHUMANIZATION and denying us of our womanhood, which cannot be replicated!! I want all of us, if we can, to unplug from the internet and to ignore these nonsensical opinions made against us, if not we'll internalize them and that's never been what we needed. And cut off people in real life who think similarly too!! This was longer than I thought it would be LOL. Anyway, thank you again for this video and have a good one!! xx

What u said about certain trends not being suitable for u is so true. Back when the tenis skirt trends came out, I loveddd it. So I got my skirt and unfortunately realized that it doesn't go with any of my clothes, my butt is too big for it and the shortness of the skirt makes me feel uncomfy. I later found slim fit denim skirts that actually flatter me, makes me feel good and goes with almost everythingin my closet. So following a few trends aren't bad but u gotta make sure it actually works for u. I'm glad I found this video tho, I was starting to feel bad about not looking like all the other girls my age, but this vid reminded me that I simply don't have to😌

And here I am as a 33 year old, refusing to use any social media that isn't KZbin and usually only watch long-form content, so I don't give a care about trends, lol. Not saying things on other social media sites haven't filtered in to here (the pure existence of KZbin Shorts is a clear example of that), but with longform content, you build a connection with the person and their content more than what they look like or trends. It's just a lot less important here and I appreciate that. Not saying I've not had my brush-ins with people who feel individuality is a crime, though...I've had quite a fair share of people at jobs who always want to try to go Project Makeover on me because my style offends them somehow (one person even proclaiming I must be depressed because of the way I dress 😂), but those were crappy jobs that of course drew crappy people. I will add this though to the pictures of that woman with the blond hair...one reason I could see it being upsetting to other black people would be that it leans into the Eurocentric image that has been pushed on black people for years. So, perhaps to see a black woman do exactly that after fighting so hard the last few decades to promote being black and proud, perhaps that's upsetting. This said, and no offense to her, but...the pictures were not that unique to me. Throw a stone at any modern woman in rap and you will see pictures exactly like that. Because it's not really that unusual anymore, I'm not offended. Does it look odd? Yes, but that whole "aesthetic" has never been very appealing to me. Just because I don't see the appeal in something though, doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist. It's just not for me and that's that.

My issue with JT is that she's NOT an individual‼️throughout her entire career, she looked like every other celebrity with the BbL & instagram body, with the same style of wigs & nails like the other black female rappers. She didn't stand out! Now that's she with Lil' Uzi Vert who IS an individual, i think he inspires her to step outside the box 😊And in that context it IS REFRESHING and she doesn't deserve hate for trying something new! I don't think this has nothing to do with colorism. Just that's my opinion..

I don't think Uzi is as much as an individual as someone trying hard to be different and to be seen as such. I do enjoy men like Andre3000 and even Uzi in theory but I feel like Andre is more authentic vs an Uzi. But Uzi is young. Uzi still fell into the being overcharged for jewelry that doesn't increase in value just like too many rappers.
@prettyllady

@@squarebear619 well Lil Uzi's first hit song came out in 2016, and that's when he had that purple & blue hair. People were clowning him for the way he dressed and the way he styled his hair. So... yeah he's always BEEN different, he's NOT trying to BE different! lol 🤣 and yes andre3000 is very unique 💯
@squarebear619
@squarebear619 Жыл бұрын
@@prettyllady there are people who try too hard to be different or othered because they think it makes them an individual or quirky. That's how he comes across plus the fact that he does silly things like with the overcharged jewelry being inserted plus other chains/bling. It screams, I'm trying to be different but more or less the same. I used Andre as a comparison because he has always come across as authentic and not gimmicky like Uzi. I'm sure folks made fun of Uzi, especially because of his size, but being made fun of doesn't mean he's any less of a gimmick who tries too hard to be othered.

I’m regards to your comments about gatekeeping… I see more people say we should gatekeep than not so that was interesting to hear I think anyone who wants to “gatekeep” something should keep it off the internet. The internet is literally for sharing stuff whether just with yourself or with your followers. Like we follow people for the things they share. So we should simply not share the things we wana keep to ourselves. I think people make it their mission to find stuff and share it when OP won’t is because imo people post to flex so it’s the internets way of showing someone they aren’t “special”

It's called an insecurities, cause what we do is what white girls did to us. I feel like black girls are becoming Karens... and they dont see it but it's slowly happening.

Okay but a thousand of those pants were made. It’s unreasonable to think a thousand people r not wearing those exact same pants rn. Most of those thousand people would probably pair it with the same type of type bcos it automatically lends itself perfectly. Unless u see your own clothes it would be really impossible to have a unique style.

I love the conversation but as a Nigerian-American who is in touch with Nigerian politics and culture, I can not stomach it from Jackie Aina. Not from the gimmicks and disrespectful ways she attempts to market culture. Somethings just shouldn't be advertised.. 😒

I hate when black ppl try to prepetau this myth that lightskins don't go through anti-blackness as if other races don't see us as black🤦🏼‍♀️ I used to wear my hair is twists and was terribly bullied for it and the same name calling thing happened to me but I guess this just didn't happened because I'm fair skinned. Stop trying to generalize problems that lightskin ppl specifically girls and women, if that's something you would never be okay with if it was the other way around.
