I worked at a Volvo truck dealer for 12 years.Our best dead batteries was 4 months on a new truck.The lead acid battery is junk.Too costly for lithium ion now.

My lithium ion battery in my Harley just sat for 3 months and fired without missing a beat. Couple crank overs to get fuel back in the carb and 💥 bam fired up.

Isn't it amazing that we, as a human race, had the brain power to take a bunch of pieces of metal and figure out a way to connect them so that we could power machines for moving thousands of pounds thousands of miles? I was watching you put everything together and torque your bolts and just was amazed and grateful that we humans are able to use our intelligence. That's REAL intelligence, baby, no "artificial intelligence" here! Good work, Martin (or as my favorite poster called you, Martian 🙂).

Stock. Not much upgrading these unless you go signature 600 valve cam but then you have to ditch the vgt turbo.

smacking the cam gear into place it was not floating, you want it to be very loose to turn, for setting the gear lash, if you would look at quickserve you will see how to cut down your feeler gauges to fit properly for setting the lash, they are too wide and have to be trimmed to fit, and again the fuel pump idler gear has to have its lash set if you didnt do so. to remove the cam wedge you stick a 5/16 bolt a couple inches long into the bottom hole and use a heal bar and it will pop right out, if you push on the adjustable idle gear from the driver side of the engine with your palm you can almost always get the perfect drag very quickly. sitting on blocks and low like that is way different than in the truck.
@TruckingTogether Жыл бұрын
You do it your way I’ll do it my way. Bet the engine runs fine.
@ronnieterry4916 Жыл бұрын
Lots of progress. Have you considered putting switches on your battery grounds? When you aren't driving there aren't any voltage loss. To hold the battery switches use a piece of one eighth by three inch flat bar steel. Cut the pieces long enough to have part of the metal under the battery and put a 90 degree bend in the piece of metal. Cutting it long enough to be above the top of the battery and having about ten inches under the battery. It's very easy to open the battery compartment and turn the switches off when you aren't using your truck.

Dont know what’s going on with batteries anymore but they are junk if you get two years out of them your doing good. That cam scares me after having two engines ruined by a cam that basically came apart is metal shavings metal coating thru out the engine . If it has more then 700 thousand on them now I replace with new. They both looked good when they were put back together

So, you just eye ball the amount of degrees you needed for final torque???😢😢😢
@TruckingTogether Жыл бұрын
No, you’re doing degrees. It’s exactly how Cummins wants you to do it unless you have a angle torque wrench. You mark your flat on your bolt and turn till it’s 120*, which is 2 flats. The idler gear is 22lb-ft and 60* so one flat. Big cam gear is 75lb-ft and 120*, so 2 flats.
