steve isn't a part of the original ult which is the competitive version of the game. Similarly how Nintendo later released PAL version of Melee that nobody uses to compete on in modern times. Similarly any character that you have to pay money for after the release of ultimate is simply not competitive. I don't know what the ult community decided to do but I assume they play on the original patch using offline mode switch and version control, of course playing whatever version they want at various times depending on the situation, but leaving the competitive games to the original release, just like we did with Melee. I mean I can only assume that Steve isn't an allowed character in competitive, nor any other character made after the release of the game and sold like a little virus into the software for extra money, an ult2.0, then ult3.0 and so on, but ult is just the original ult. Obviously if people want to play for fun and get owned by a vicious steve they can always play ult-Steve-Patch-Addition, but it's not like they are playing "Ultimate", keep in mind they're playing a new game BASED on ultimate called "Ultimate-Steve_Patch_Addition" or Kazuya version, etc. Obviously the truly competitive version would be Ultimate, not 'Ultimate patch number seven edition' or whatever. So Steve isn't infuriating, because it's inherently non-competitive to fight against him because it's not the original game, it's just some other patch or release paid money on top of everything else to use. Endermen on the other hand, ... jk lol, Enderman was not in the original Ult but bro imagine if he was, that's the start of ANY video involving characters created after the game was made and downloaded like little "Oh I wish we had done things differently, maybe in another universe, maybe right now I can load my little packet into your switch and it will add a brand new character hehehehehe" like bro that was NEVER competitive that's just some after thought type of shit.

I'm going to make a custom melee character and call it "Robbie" and just make it OP and be like ohhhh lol yeah of course Robbie is in Melee, nahh nahh it's not in the original release lmao but you can attach it to you game if you pay MONEY. Sound familiar? Robbie will store items like Falco's laser, and have a lot of parallels to steve from ult's toolkit. Now obviously they could have buffed all the melee and other characters in ult to make them be able to cope with steve and fight him, but they didn't from what I can tell, unless there's some special way to di all of that build upair build up air etc away at any percent. From what I've heard ult is more of a "you better kill off of a few hits/combos" kind of game at the top level which is very unappealing to me. I strongly prefer the pace of melee which is impossible to have that kind of control when there's a vicious steve in the arena as well, or shall I say Robbie in the arena.. Anyway, you probably wouldn't accept or agree with any of that, maybe saying "Sure but the same company let you pay money to load a broken-on-purpose character made after the release of the game into the data, it's not just some random dude or dudes who made it up and sell it, it's literally the same company" and I would just laugh at how ridiculous of a statement that would be.

To list the mechanics that Steve removes from ultimate: DI with their jab (note that you can only DI in tumble, not the air stagger weak moves gives you), ladders and sharking with block up air combos, ledge control with guaranteed flowcharts, above ledge vulnerability with minecart, leaving the ground state from with rolling minecart (every other ground move in the game leaves you actionable very quickly after leaving ground, minecart leaves you actionable at the apex), and probably most of all, the concept of neutral and stage control with block walls that take the time of a single IDJ to set up. I love watching fox, I love watching corrin, hell I enjoy watching ROB most of the time, I really love playing this game when my opponent and I are both interacting with the systems the game gives us. The reason I don't enjoy Steve isn't that he's broken good, it's that he removes that joy I get from interacting with the game's mechanics to maximize my openings, control the stage, and understand the roles of me and my opponent in each match. TLDR, Steve isn't just broken good, he literally breaks Ultimate's solid set of neutral and advantage systems.
