Can 3D Printed Helicopter Blades Really Take Flight?

I decided to test whether 3D printing can redefine how helicopters fly, especially with custom-printed helicopter blades. Will this helicopter be able to take off? Look and find out!

Myabe on the top side leave a slot and glue in a carbon fiber strip. (PLA would be good as CA and PLA are a great match)

Ya I have considered assembling the blades with a stronger core down the center of the blade. The blade is just very thin.

Maybe they could be made stiffer if you applied an outside layer of woven glass, kevlar or carbon fibre but it still seemed to fly ok. Did you use an extrusion printer or a resin printer and what plastic was it made from. ?

I FDM printed them using PETG. I'm considering trying out resin printed blades. They might be able to hold better

@@LifeAroundDamian Resin printed are usually not as strong although you could make them thicker to compensate.

@@LifeAroundDamian Resin is weaker you may have to make them thicker to get the same strength- PETG is actually a good choice it's strong and flexible - i would suggest trying PLA+ it's more rigid but still quite strong and flexible.

I'm close enough lol plastic bottles are from PET and these are out of PETG

Do you think carbon filament would make the blades stiffer?

I would love to think that, but I have never worked with carbon filament. Do you have that capability?

@@LifeAroundDamian unfortunately no I don't. I know there's PLA filament with carbon particles but I've heard it really wears out the nozzles on the printer. I might go to microcenter this weekend for a roll and see how it goes.

@boogiemere1214 Yes, I heard the same thing about the nozzle wearing out. I would also consider looking into PETG CF as well. I'll have to find someone to print me a set for some testing!
