This FULLY exceed my expectations, going over 100 feet into the air! This project started as a response to some popular comments on one of my past videos ( • The FASTEST Fully 3D-P... ) about making a propeller toy. Using a 1:13 gear ratio and a 3D printed propeller, I was able to shoot this thing over 100 feet into the air. The craziest thing is all the components on this toy were 3D Printed!
The 3D Models are available for free on my website and can be assembled without any additional tools. You can find them here:

Here's my patreon if you want to support the creation of more fun and easy engineering projects:

Just to wanted to make a technical correction to your last comment. The helicopter wheel/blade did not start turning the other way, rather it started slowing down to the point that it "appeared" to start turning the other way. It is an optical illusion known as the "wagon-wheel effect" (as well as by many other names), which is the same reason why the wheels of cars often appear to turn in the opposite direction. Regardless, amazing work! 👍
@Engineezy
@Engineezy 2 жыл бұрын
In this case it actually slowed down to the point where it started rotating the other way from the air resistance as it fell!

Nice distance! I suspect that part of what you're running into is the following: during the initial acceleration, the disc is locked in, but when the launcher decelerates, the disc rotates and slams straight into the vertical wall of the cutout. The easy way to prevent this is to make both sides of the cutout helical ramps (not just the locking side), which I'm pretty sure is roughly what all those toys do. That way, the blade just gets pushed away from the launcher. You can experiment with the clearances there, of course - a gap like you have now vs. closely interlocking helices.

Is it possible to use these gear ratios in an electric car or as an alternative form of generator, maybe an alternator, maybe a watermill or a hydroelectric dam? I'm sure they use them in such places but this seems like a much higher ration or smthn

Imagine if you mounted a tiny motor on a gear like that and then make a drone out of it. You could make a really long lasting drone since you barely need any power to keep the helicopter blades spinning. Honestly if this would scale up, you could potentially put it on larger applications. I really want to see what an automotive or aircraft manufacturer would think. Like, putting some crazy gear ratio like this on an experimental jet or car and see what happens.
