I agree with your assessment 100%! I’ve driven two 991.1 GT3s like the one you have in the video on track. On one occasion, I also drove a 458 as well as a GTR on track. And on the other occasion I also drove a Huracan. In my opinion, the GT3 is a much better car for anyone Who seriously likes to drive and take it on track occasionally. It feels like that is exactly what it was engineered to do, while the others were just posing 😉!

I have owned an almost identical GT3 for two years. I bought it because I had the chance to be in one for a couple of days at the Nurburgring and it was stunning. I have modified mine with the help of Dundon Motorsports in Washington state. Replaced the stock wing, added dive planes and a much more effective front splitter. Track times have been radically reduced and it’s so much fun. I am learning but I will never be able to take this car to its limit on a track - it is far more capable than I am but it keeps challenging you to try harder! It helps that you can feel everything that is going on and the car feeds it all back to you in real time. And the red line! Hats off to Porsche engineering. Run this thing all day on a track hitting 9000 regularly - not to mention aggressive downshifting - and then you calm it down, put the air conditioning on, take it out of track mode and drive this track monster peacefully home. I daily drive it and it is extremely comfortable. Wow - what a car.

There is no wrong answer to this question. GT3 is faster and has the epic 3.8L GT3 only engine. The GT4 has the engine in the right spot, and has a manual transmission. They share steering, brakes, rotors and front suspension. The engine in the GT4 is amazing, but not epic. I prefer the driving experience in the GT4, but the GT3 is an icon. For me manual trumps the engine as I look for engagement in my driving experiences. But there's no wrong answer here. Follow your heart.

No question the engine is special but the steering is good?! I've driven it on track and on the road and the steering is one of the weakest links of the car as it was the GT team's first iteration of EPS. You lost me on the steering review. The weight loads up but feedback was terrible. Even European car reviewers thought the same which was why the 991.2 GT3/RS were game changers in the steering and all other driver inputs. Heck - GM does a better job with steering calibration in their C7 and Alpha chassis Camaros (particularly in the 1LE guise). On the subject of 'value', perhaps the Porsche tax should be of strong consideration. It's one thing forking over $100k for this car but what about all of preventative maintenance + regular maintenance costs that have to be taken into consideration? It's not like your local jiffy lube can change the oil on one of these. Let's also not forget these have Centerlock wheels, not something your local tire shop can easily change in the middle of nowhere.... One has definitely has to pay to play but the 991 GT3 represents a road car that has sprinkles of 'race car' unnecessarily (Centerlock wheels anyone?) that truly undermines the 'value' equation. Just my 2 cents. Apart from that - keep making awesome content.

I can’t comment on the steering since I have only driven a 991.1 C2S but you’re right about the center locks and maintenance. They essentially made it a requirement to have your car serviced at Porsche and to pay their high labour rate. Center locks are completely unnecessary on street cars. GT cars hold their value better than most but it’s those who have access to exclusive PTS colours and a few rare versions that have and will make money.

@John Mitchell Actually they have more similarities than you think. Both have a flat engine, both are rwd, both are very lightweight, both are N/A, etc. I wasn’t really comparing them, I just always kinda thought that the GT3 was an FRS that was on steroids and meth (hence the bigger engine, more power, more weight, etc.)
@CarsOverPeople4 жыл бұрын
@John Mitchell No shit... even with 20 grands of mods, it’d still be 1/3 the price of a GT3 so I would hope it wouldn’t touch a GT3. But it seems like you’re not understanding what I’m trying to say so have a good one.
@caymanchronicles47534 жыл бұрын
A Cayman S is much more like an FRS on steroids and meth. Similar weight distribution, both rwd, both should have more power, both are immense fun despite being underpowered, and both are two seat coupes. The steering, brakes, suspension, chassis and reliability go to the Cayman S, as well as power. But that would be a better question than a GT3.
