I should have said that it’s not uncommon for a Clubsport S with 5k miles to sell for around £45k. So it’s basically £5k more one that hasn’t really been used.

Howzit Andrew! Great video! Just 47 were sold in South Africa. Interestingly, in SA, we had a higher number of E46 M3 CSL models sold, with a total of 65, and more of them were produced worldwide! They are currently selling for around £30K over here, regardless of their mileage. Lower mileage will cost more, of course. The E46 M3 CSL is currently selling for £100K; perhaps the Clubsport S will meet the same fate.

They’re entirely banking on its value as a collectible, and I think it’s far too early for it to be priced this high. Objectively there’s not way it’s worth that amount, it is at the end of the day, a hot golf gti.

What about a hot BMW 1 series then because that’s all a 1M is if the Clubsport S is just a hot Golf GTI. And 1M is doing a similar job value wise and they made 6309 of those, not 400.

@@volkswizard The 1m is also priced on collectibility, however its engine is more interesting, the chassis is one of the finest BMW made, it’s got a huge cult following and it’s been out of production for a fair amount more time. 50k for a golf is really quite steep. If they made equal amounts of the club sport as they did the 1m I’d wager it would be priced far lower than the BMW. But that’s just my guess / opinion. Edit: just as a reference point - you can pick up a Clio V6 for around £45k

Is this a sales video ?. Trying to help APS out ? Tyres will need changing as they are now 8 years old. As you say…. Can’t use it as the value will nose dive. A video just covering the car would have been better. They won’t get £50k for it.

I tried to avoid any sales patter, all I did was describe the car, if that helps sell it then great as it’s better than I expected so presumably a buyer might be impressed by its perfection (not an exaggeration as you can see for yourself). APS don’t need help, I need help with video content as electric cars are already messing this up. When I sold Mk2 Golfs for £5k, I had lots of very similar comments but they always sold and are now worth £20k. Ultimately the market sets prices and plenty of 5k miler CSS have sold for £45k and this is a lot better (if you want a car too precious to drive for a collection that is)

Definitely not worth it. Not sure if it’s the same vehicle but seem one advertised about 2 years ago for 50k also with delivery mileage. My take is to drive it and have fun and sell at £35k 👍

Great car but it's very similar to the Clubsport 40 which are also overpriced!.. I suppose it's very appealing to the die hards. I'm in the market for a Golf 7 / 7.5 but just can't justify any of these prices upfront as not into finance.. which IMO has contributed to these inflated 2nd hand prices. There's TCR's still going for over £30K! I think i'm going to settle for a 7.5 R 3 dr which seems to be the least over-inflated of the lot.

It’s similar to a Clubsport if you find one specced in the same way (DCC, Pretoria wheels & semi slicks, bucket seats, manual). And then you’ll have less power, more weight, steel subframe. VW even made unique hubs for Clubsport S to give more negative camber. Also Edition 40 has a very boring exhaust sound while CSS pops and bangs a lot (which is fun) and sounds better generally. A yet a similarly specced Ed40 cost MORE than a Clubsport S so you could say they were too cheap when new

@@volkswizard For sure! I was leaning more towards the looks department. It's one of those IFYKYK cars... to any member of the public it's like "Yeah it's a golf..." They wouldn't know the difference between either really. Money no object it's in my ultimate VAG car top 10 garage.

A 7.5 GTI Performance is not that far behind & makes a better daily (as does R) but for boring old VW to make a car like this and do it so well it’s almost more special than a Ferrari/PORSCHE/BMW who do this sort of thing regularly

It’s lovely, cars like this always create quite the dilemma - if I wanted one back in 2016 but couldn’t afford it then seems a good way into one now. Otherwise it just gets passed from collector to collector quite a niche and pointless (in my worthless opinion) option.

New price 35k 8 x years of servicing = 3k 8 x years of insurance = 4k Total cost to own minimum 42k Sell to dealer for probably 44k trade. 8 years to get a 2k return without any enjoyment of driving it to me is massive waste of time. Far better investments out there.

I had also a ‘normal’ Clubsport with DSG and it was also more sharp compared to the TCR. However as daily, TCR probably the best of those 3

Bottom line is no. These so called specialist dealers are taking the absolute piss and driving prices up to an obscene sum, far more than the cars are actually worth. Yes it’s a good car to drive but a £15-£20k Megane Trophy is as good if not better. Puts them out of reach of most normal enthusiasts and they just end up sat in a barn of some rich kid somewhere.

Before you did the inflation price increase segment, I thought the car should be £45k. For me I would PPF the whole car, protect the underside and drive the car as a weekend special. Hi andrew im in autralia had a few golfs incuding the 2025wolfsbirg r and gti mrk 7 i recently bought the edition 40 in red and mauual they are still holding valaue but ss you would know car market is down so prices of everything is also down . In my opinion these are to date the best golf to be released

Hey Jimmy, CS Ed40 is indeed special thanks to that aero kit courtesy of Karsten. It was conceived pre-dieselgate. Since then VW have seemed to systematically erode away the special attributes that made use choose them over lesser brands

The CSS and Edition 30/35/40 models remind me of older Ford RS cars, but the CSS has a real cult following and a modern classic esp. as the MkVIII is a bit of a pup. Is it worth £50k, well maybe not for me but it would be a rubbish world if we all liked the same things.

Indeed, only problem with CSS is that it’s not actually that well known and was a niche buy when new, fast fords are blue collar heroes that people could buy and use daily with little compromise (more like a CS Ed40).

@@Danlorde I didn't like the preset on my V1's on my R32, I have the V3's on my TTRS on my and they are great.

@@neilmartin110 It depends on the car, but otherwise the difference is that with v1 you can change the height but not the rebound like on v2 or v3 which also has camber adjustment. Unless you go to the track and want to scrape every millisecond, v3 is not worth it in my opinion. otherwise what don't you really like about v1, it was too hard, too soft?

Interesting conundrum Andrew. Think I'd prefer to buy a thoroughly used classic with patina, and be more comfortable putting some miles on the clock. That is a rare opportunity for a collector though.....

I did buy one with a few miles (my second one) and while I cherish it, it gets used and lives outdoors and it enhances my life by providing driving highs not many other cars can offer. GT4 is next level beyond this and is very different (Clubsport S doesn’t want to kill the inexperienced 😬)

Exactly. Regular 4 door Clubsport manual no sunroof does the job just fine for around 250€ a month privately owned as just a fun car to road trips and such while having the space etc. costing as much as regular gti´s and R´s. Not paying original MSRP for a golf or more thats been driven 30k and above, no matter "how special" it is. Moon prices once again. Only fools who don´t have regular jobs or company owners of "honest labour" (not speaking of finance and real estate people, those are just money launderers) would pay that where "money is working for them" not opposite.

Appreciation has alot to do with rarity and nostalgia….i guess if loads of the r32s disappeared off the road and those folks that drove them first time around turned 50 and had money to buy a mint example (in 20 years time). The issue isn't what it's worth, but how much is someone prepared to pay? As an example, in 2001, I was offered a Sierra Rs500, with 5k on it for £14k. I was severely tempted, but declined on the basis that it's value was purely based on its mileage and that I wouldn't be able to enjoy it, because any mileage I put on it would devalue it a lot. However, what a fool I was, because the same car ( or an exactly the same one), went to auction last summer and made over £600k!!😭😭 Therefore you cannot value properly a car like this. The car is now subjected to being a collection, likely in perpetuity? It is unlikely someone will buy it to use. I you were to drive it 15k miles over the next few years, at current prices it would be worth close to £35k, meaning if you use the car moderately you are likely to suffer £1 per mile depreciations costs over that mileage.
