With snakes in the area, keep the grass nice and short. It doesn't stop them from wandering through the area, but it sure helps you see the little buggers. Gives them no place to hide.

My battery whipper sniper trims my whole 3.5 acres with power left over. Where-as the petrol trimmer needs fuelling about 2 to 3 times. Sure, the petrol trimmer is a little faster, and will knock down the long stuff a bit easier, but, it's way heavier and harder on the back. Then you've got the hassle of refuelling as well. I love my battery trimmer and blower. I bought them when I lived in a small house with a small yard, and only bought the cheap Ozito brand. I'm considering switching to a better brand. As for battery mowers? I just don't think I could swap my big Husqvarna zero turn for a plastic battery powered machine. Great vid.

The only thing putting me off going to a battery rotary is how capable they are for scalping work. The min height on them all seem top leave a lot to be desired for "utility" purposes.
@theaussielawn2 жыл бұрын
I believe that all these modern machines are built for larger markets such as the US and a lot of that market has cool season turf that has a totally different care and maintenance routine. Unfortunately for us scalping cool season turf isn't really a thing. So the mowers are designed for taller mowing again not being ideal for us here in a warm season grass climate

The battery mowers are becoming good options even for people with larger areas.

Been thinking of doing a garden round using on electric equipment and this toro electric is what I was leaning towards. With a few spare batteries it should handle a smaller garden round business really well.

I grabbed one for professional use. Love it, but for max 2 - 3 nice quality buff/couch/fescue amenity lawns a day, its ace. Expensive but you're paying 90% of your running costs upfront. In saying that my business leans more towards hort than turf so a mowing/turf contractor would probably throw it against a wall lol.
@theaussielawn2 жыл бұрын
Yeah great for home lawns etc . I’d say you’d need a fleet of batteries for commercial use. I would imagine a nice trailer setup with chargers and batteries would be great but $$$$
@rickthelian22152 жыл бұрын
Was surprised with the fun of the battery test vs petrol, thought the battery was up to the test of some dry grass. The downside is the length of use may just be enough for a domestic 900sq metre lawn with normal lawn before requiring a recharge. Buying spare or replacement batteries and their price is certainly a huge concern. In California USA the state government have programs for professionals and garden users to switch to battery powered equipment.
@theaussielawn2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I feel the petrol powered units days are numbered unfortunately.

@@theaussielawn I’m seeing the increase in price of second hand mowers online on all platforms properly due to costs of these new battery mowers.
@richardportelli19832 жыл бұрын
I think the issues you had with clogging before was due to the fact you were trying to cut a lot at one time while bagging. Using the side chute to get the tall stuff down and then coming bag with the bag to collect clippings is the way to go for the half chute machines. Still can't beat the aussie mowers though.

@@theaussielawn I've been to NZ, what a stunning country you guys have. Bloody beautiful. All that green grass and rolling hills covered with cows. I've never seen so many cows. LOL. Plus, you don't have all the snakes. I've seen big ol' brown snakes on my property in Vic during the warmer months. It's unsettling to be honest, since I'm a long way from hospital. It doesn't phase us, or stop us from doing the job, but would be such a great relief to never have to think "snake safety" every time you want to walk your property, or reach into a pile of wood. I've got 5 kids and 9 grandkids. They don't seem to listen when you tell them there could be snakes.

Do you know how this would compare with the Masport 60V mower and some of the Ego ones? The Masport is a 1.2kW motor but the Ego ones don't have that info available, not on the website, manuals, nothing. A lot of their models are polycarbonate also, never had one of those so don't know if rocks will just completely destroy the deck or not. Any advice appreciated!
@theaussielawn Жыл бұрын
Ito be totally honest I don’t know how they would compare for power, but I’m going to make an assumption here. I suspect the Masport will have the ability to cut shorter than an ego or toro. So if cutting below 1” is important to you then I’d think the masport is the mower for you. But if you want a nice wide cut, self drive and have a longer lawn to mow (north of 1” / 2.5cm then toro is hard to beat
@KenshinPhoenix Жыл бұрын
@@theaussielawn I do leave parts down the back to get quite long lol. I don't need to cut that low, so I'll have to look into the Toro, I know nothing about them yet. Thanks for the advice 👍

@@theaussielawn oh damn that sux, but would be good to see wat it can handle on it's lowest on something thick and if it scalps. They probably won't allow it to go low coz it may bog down being battery.

Brenton, did you observe much of a weight difference between the mowers? Thinking that a lighter mower may dance over the top of high/thick grass, rather than cut accurately at the set HOC.
@theaussielawn2 жыл бұрын
The battery machine is much lighter. It doesn’t appear to float across the ground as such but maybe that would be a little to do with the cutting height variation
