Great video mate. With PGR on the SGZ, I know Sygenta doesnt advise the rates for Zoysia on the Australian label, but it does state zoysia on the US label which is 0.25-11 fl oz to 1000ft2, so about 8ml per 100m2 as a base, should we be starting at that rate? I've heard some horror stories with people burning their SGZ so I've been hesitant to use it. Could we tank mix with Plant Dr Liquid Iron rather than Max Green? I am trying to limit the nitrogen in the lawn as last season I was seeing massive growth and lots of seed once winter came which I put down to too much nitrogen.
@theaussielawn4 күн бұрын
Definitely can use straight plant dr iron no worries there, I went in at 12ml per 100 keep in mind the shorter you mow the more chance you will have of yellowing if the rate is too strong. This SGZ is about to get its 4th hit of PGR at 12ml and have had no issues with yellowing.

Wow 12ml/ 100m2 PGR on zoysia seems heavy going to me. I added 10ml/100m2 + iron in Brisbane and it went yellow so have now dropped it back to 5ml/100m2 and am happy with the outcome on my Empire zoysia. Would be keen to see how yours handled the 12ml. You're watering schedule probably makes a big difference.

Really enjoyed this one Brenton. That patch is really relatable to the average lawnie using the 17" 45. I got to say it looked great 3 days after application. One of my favourite combos prg and iron mix. Quick question how does sg zoysia compare to qld blue they seem to have similar characteristics?
@theaussielawn6 күн бұрын
They are really quite different if I'm being honest. QLD is definitely faster to repair and it's a little fussy when it comes to selectively controlling weeds in it. SGZ is slow to recover more prickly than QLD blue plus different colour.

Looks great Brenton. What do you reckon the cause of the uneven stripes is after the first mow in this vid? Slightly uneven lawn that’ll improve with more mows and/or slight topdressing?
@theaussielawn6 күн бұрын
It's definitely to do with the fact it needs topdressing you can spend a life time preparing the ground and still lay turf and it need topdressing. If this was couch I would have top dressed it more than once, This stuff really needs time to establish before going hard on it. so till next spring we need to put up with it looking a little uneven

I’ve recently discovered your channel and I am enjoying it very much, especially the Zoysia videos as we laid this down at our previous house. It was a lot of work but the results were worth it. We moved last April and after deciding to renovate our landscaping at our new house we chose Iron Cutter for our new lawn. It is very similar in look to Zoysia but so far it looks like it won’t need as much effort to maintain. I wonder if you’re familiar with Iron Cutter and what your thoughts on it might be. Cheers from Brisbane.

@philrichmond59196 күн бұрын
Spot on about Zoysia preferring to shoot from rhizomes. In fact I have to watch it in garden beds because it goes under 75mm edging then pops up in the middle of the bed. It’s manageable, you just need to be aware of it. The other thing you’ll find is you’ll probably have to backlap the mower more often, because zoysia has a higher silica content and causes a bit more blade wear in my experience.
@theaussielawn6 күн бұрын

G'day, I'm sorry, but you have no idea what you're talking about with the wobble tee sprinkler. I've been using them for 8 years and if I have them on for any longer than 20min my front lawn is flooded and the one you showed on camera, the head is half the size of the ones I use. We built our house and laid our own grass, and we used the wobble tee sprinklers, and they worked perfectly.
@theaussielawn8 күн бұрын
G'day Justin, A Wobble Tee sprinkler has a precipitation rate of approximately 4mm per hour I cant possibly see how you are flooding after 20mins unless there is soil compaction issues, Even then given the way that it delivers its water I struggle to see how it possibly does (unless your watering everyday or its connected to a enviro cycle system etc) But all that aside if you are getting great results with the sprinkler then its doing its job for you 😎

thoughts on pre germination? how do you keep birds away?
@theaussielawn6 күн бұрын
You can but rye is fast to germinate so I don't really worry. For me touch wood birds have not been an issue for me. If the seed is lightly covered hopefully most germinates before the birds figure out its there

One extra thing I would add about the spring wire attachment is the remember to check its condition after every use. I had one break off when I was using it as a groomer on my Sir Grange but didn't realise. Well my cylinder mower found it for me and it left a nice little chip in the bed knife and reel. 🤬 On the plus side, the rake pulled up a good sized Couch runner that was hiding under the canopy so I painted that bad boy with Round Up real quick.
