@certifiedredditgenius Жыл бұрын
@@kom452 Not a wrestler but I hope this helps: as a BJJ guy, you no doubt know the importance of hips on the ground. For shrimping, control, etc. its more or less your base once it hits the mat. On the feet, its the same thing but BJJ guys don't really practice takedowns or understand the importance of the hips. If you've ever rolled with a grappler, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, their takedowns are much much better. Even in a clinch, they feel the way you're moving or rotating and can counter it very effectively. That's why its easier to transition from wrestling to BJJ than the other way around, you don't have the muscle memory of how that all works.

This is GREAT crossover training and insight. Ben hit it on the head when he described the difference in the nuance between the two. Wrestling was the very first primal martial arts that everything else evolved from. One thing to point out, which I think we take for granted in the USA. Our wrestling programs. Think about it. Most wrestling programs are absolutely free and provided as part of school sports or programs in the Boys and Girls Club. In contrast, how much do you think you would have to pay a Jiu-Jitsu academy overtime to be competent in that disciple? Probably thousands. Great job guys👍

@certifiedredditgenius Жыл бұрын
Very well put. From my experience, nothing beats straight wrestling for control or strength/conditioning. That is why wrestling is so damn good in MMA, they can control you from top position and just rain hell. By contrast, BJJ is much much more about rolling for an extended length of time (slow twitch rather than fast twitch), not burning yourself out, and using technique rather than strength. Submissions are mostly from BJJ and that's how you finish fights, not by pinning someone. Both are important but for sheer versatility, wrestling is the best base for MMA.
