Following hypnotic suggestions is a weird combination between compulsion and a sense that it is the most natural thing in the world. I do prefer the sense of time distortion when in a trance because then I don't even remember doing it, because when I am remembering everything, I have this sense of fighting the trance, but when time distortion occurs, it feels as if my mind "blanks out" if that makes any sense.
@billmasters3857 жыл бұрын
and to your point, it is not that I am forgetting per se, but the sense of time distortion allows my mind to "jump over" the feeling of being present in trance. It only occurs in a portion of the trances (maybe 25% of the time), but do you think those might be somnambulistic trances?
@AliciaFairclough7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's really cool. When you don't fall asleep but you're going in and out so you're responsive to suggestion but don't clearly remember all of it. That's a good sign :)
@billmasters3857 жыл бұрын
Those feel like the best trances, but also seem like the most scary because I will often wake up out of trance with a start and ask myself "what just happened?"

Alicia, I read a fiction book once where an athlete had used hypnosis. When he used a trigger word it gave him a one off boost of energy when he was very tired so that he won the race. Just wondered if this was pure fantasy or whether it was possible such as in running. Thanks

Hi, Alicia. I have a nephew who used to love Criss Angel. I think he had DVDs he bought from our local store?? I'm not quite sure about the DVDs, but he just loved Criss Angel. I have been to a magic show in my town long ago and I was happily entertained for two and a half hours. The magician was a local amateur artist that wanted to follow in his magician dad's foot steps. He did and that was my first and only peek into the world of magic. I hope to see David Copperfield one day. I hear he is good. I like your question and answer videos because I love hypnosis and learning about it from such a seasoned hypnotherapist like yourself. Thanks for the video. I'll be watching

You made a video about forgetting the number seven. I remember the suggestion and I knew that there was a number 7 but it was like I couldn't be bothered to say it or something. It was like when I went from 6 to 8 it wasn't like I was surprised or confused or anything but it was kinda like.... It's hard to explain. It was like I was aware there was a number 7 but (like with the Peter rabbit thing) I couldn't think of another answer except from skipping straight to 8

I always feel like I'm aware of a suggestion, even though I usually only use relaxation inductions. However, I think for me it just adds a level of comfort because I know what I'm doing and feel it's ok, and if I were ever given a suggestion that I felt I didn't feel comfortable with, then I can kinda stop myself or see a red flag (a bit like you were saying). Btw, I love watching videos from Matt Franco! He's a great magician! Awesome video, I love these cuz it helps give a bit of an understanding of what's actually happening! Thanks Alicia!

I have a related question. I have heard that suggestions can work "better" if the subject does not have conscious awareness of them. Is that true? Not sure how true that is and how much better, if at all. I know hypnosis works even if I remember everything. It is sometimes more fun to be surprised by a post hypnotic suggestion, when you have no conscious knowledge. Fun, of course, is not the primary goal of hypnotherapy. And, even if suggestions are better unremembered , hypnotherapy does not have to be perfect to be successful.

I've often felt that I'm more inclined to accept suggestions when I'm comfortable with, or outright like, the hypnotist. In a therapeutic context I'm there because I want the suggestions/instructions, but if my unconscious doesn't engage when I mentally sit back away from the wheel, nothing much happens. *leaves extra oxygen on the way out*

yes I've seen them shake hands with people as they enter for the show.. I guess they can feel something (An energy of some sort?) and those will be the ones he picks during the show. And yes I'd say those with an open mind would be better candidates. This subject can get quite heavy if you think about it ..

Let's give you some O2 then! I'm not saying who is my favourite illusionist, I don't really have one. But as you mentioned David Copperfield, I have a disagreement with the Dimond Brothers. They think, if he walks on water, demons are helping him to stay above, I think he has a magic (as in illusionist magic) trick. I'm not asking you to reveal it, I am just asking: * have you seen how he does that? * and was it, as I presume, a natural "sleight of ..." (even if "of hand" seems inadequate)?

Lots of very interesting information in this video. Great stories/information about Chris and David. I have been a long time fan of David Copperfield. My wife, daughter and myself really like Chris Angel. We have Mindfreak on DVD and love watching his illusions, tricks stunts and demonstrations. One of my favorite illusions was where Chris put a cell phone into a beer bottle. Magic hypnosis question. How would Chris put a whole restaurant of people to sleep? Also Chris did a street hypnosis demonstration where he handed out a flyer, people read it and then passed out. Is this possible? What sort of rapid induction and suggestions could be used in just reading a flyer? (I have a feeling that I may have asked this before... I'll have to re-watch some of your Q&A's) If this is possible could you do a video with a rapid hypnosis flyer? I would like to experience that if it's possible. :D

@AliciaFairclough7 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends on what you're thinking when you say 'stage hypnosis like effects' but I can say that there is almost no difference between hypnotherapy in person v hypnotherapy via Skype. A lot of stage hypnosis is fake/illusion so... :)

@AliciaFairclough7 жыл бұрын
Oooh good questions! It's definitely pretty 50/50 in terms of enjoying being hypnotised vs hypnotising others (depends on the day!). At the moment I would say I prefer hypnotising others because I'm finding work very fulfilling. My favourite induction to use is the one that works. My favourite induction to have done on me... I like Elman, Awareness, Magnetic Hands... Love it if I have someone in person and they do a shoulder rub and and arm drop as a deepener. Also love being surprised if I have a new hypnotherapist do something I haven't experienced before but I don't get to be in that position often :)

Thanks for this very much "reality checking in" video. Indeed, hypnosis is not magic, and no, there's no way someone can force anyone to do something just by hypnosis (not saying that repeated hypnosis used among other techniques cannot have such an effect on the very long term, but that'd be off tracks). Thanks for the vidz, always a wave of freshness (so sending this oxygen as a counter gift :-) )
