Tonal Balance Control is nice feature as well. If you don't have good monitoring system, you can at least control balance of your track so you don't put a lot of bass / treble / etc. It also comes with learning algorithm where you can throw bunch of songs and it will draw a eq curve that you should match on your master. Helps a lot to tweak your mix on final stages so it gets right on the point.

It should be noted that the main determinant of the success of the Ozone Pro Plugin is the requirement of a solidly handled mix. If you haven't EQ'd your mix elements correctly, this plugin will highlight those resonances (it doesn't do notch EQing) and it'll probanly sound like shit. It ain't a magic marker. But it's kinda cool. Edit: it did some notch EQing later on - but with the Ozone 9 Match EQing plugin, not the Ozone Pro plugin itself.

As an old guy who spent 3 decades doing this, if your a indi musician who records their own stuff = Do not get involved with mastering, stick to recording and learning how to mix its way more important, mastering takes years, and the hardest part is learning how to listen to the mix, your time is better spend improving your song writing skills. Bandlab has free mastering, there are 4 options - Dynamic mix, Fire, Tape and i forget the other one, the default = Dynamic is pretty good, if your master is lacking bass or something, mix it again and run it through Bandlab mastering again.
@mrcoatsworth4292 жыл бұрын
This is good advice. You can do the same thing with Ozone. I picked up Ozone Elements for free when they had a sale or something. I use it as a reference to see where my mixes lack etc. and my mixes have gotten so much better. Lots of times now, the corrective EQ in Ozone is just flat. But if the AI boosts the highs, for example, I know I'll have to go back and boost the highs in the cymbals or vocals or whatever else.

It was really troubling not hearing enough about this area because it seemed obvious but never heard much about it. Hey Glenn, couple questions/comments: 1st: Wouldn't that cheap cab actually be the best shape for a cab? You mentioned that the front of the cab only looks like it has an angle in it but it's actually a single slab of wood at an angle. To me, that seems better than having the angle in the middel, as that removes a major contributor to standing waves occuring which is two "walls" being parallel to each other. 2nd: We all know you love the SM57 (although it does get overdone now) and especially in the Fredman configuration. But what do you think about a SM58 without grille? It's very similar to a SM57 that way, but not exactly the same. I once did a mic shootout comparing 12+ mics to each other on a guitar cab and I actually preffered the MacGyvered SM57 to the real deal. It was, however, at a venue which saw some heavy use of it's microphones and the amp was not suited as a main tone for the type of metal we were playing (Fender Bluesbreaker). So the testing was less than ideal. Cheers from Holland, And f*** you!
@slayabouts2 жыл бұрын
I’m 90% shure (i’ll see myself out) they’re the same microphone just with a different grille. I think maybe the 57 has a shorter distance from diaphragm to grille

@@slayabouts they are very similar, but not quite the same. The Beta SM57 and Beta SM58 are the same microphone with a different grille though! That's also a cool follow up question: What do you think of the Shure Beta line of microphones?
Honestly I have been using Ozone for years now and for a quick master for a demo it works alright but it is miles behind anything done by an engineer who knows what he’s doing. As soon as you raised the lufs target, it totally crushed your mix and started distorting horribly. There’s no instant way to get a clean, dynamic and LOUD master. (Not yet at least 😅) Only patience, experience, creativity and time… The mix was very good, that’s what allowed Ozone to get a good result here. Don’t overestimate AI in audio. We’re not there yet 😌 (please prove me wrong)
