NOt even that! *No one* should be "loyal" to a huge corporate company, not even if you are an employee. Why? It's stupid and you should support the best option, wether it's the cheapest, the most convenient, the most efficient, the most advanced or the most ethical one. You shoudl always compare you options to promote not only a better user/customer experience but a better company competition and industry development, while creating a more competitive pricing, quality and service experience.

The times seem over that "browsing questionable websites" can install viruses like in the past with Windows, but Windows is crap even if it's clean. I've fresh-installed Windows 11 alone already 4 times and 2 times was on Windows alone. With Windows I can't use my audio-interface with Explorer and DAW together, but no problem with my Mac and didn't even install a driver despite 4 channels. With Windows I need to install the Roland driver plus asio-driver to get access to the ports, which than I can't use in Windows itself. It's ridiculous. And I have a "Silent"-PC with all BeQuiet inside, but it's still a hurricane compare to my Mac Studio. Certainly not possible to record the stuff I'm playing without having the many fans on the track. Every single one of my Apple products inevitably slowed down and died completely, and if that didn’t happen I was absolutely plagued with crashing, freezing, and the dreaded beach ball. -switched to PC almost 2 years ago and have not had a SINGLE issue. And if something weren’t working properly, I could always change out/upgrade specific parts of my PC; sadly you can’t do that with Mac. Shit’s soldered in. Being in the IT industry listening to these discussions from consumers as if they are tech wizards is absolutely hilarious. I can see benefits and negatives of both. The truth of it, though, is out of all his arguments none of them are the real reason. For him, it all comes down to simplicity and ease of use. It's the OS he is focusing on which is a customized dumbed down UNIX, locking it down so consumers can't screw anything up. There are benefits to that but also puts you at the whim of whatever Apple wants you to have at the time. I really laughed when he started talking about thunderbolt. I also highly doubt anyone actually reads their EULAs. To think that Apple doesn't collect your personal information is also very funny.

@@robflores5172 I'm typing this comment on a PC that has lasted 17 years with no plan on upgrading any time soon. The only way you haven't had a computer that lasted more than 4 years is if you're not maintaining it or just replacing the whole computer if one component fails which isn't necessary. A PC can last over 20 years if you take care of it while a modern mac lasts until the soldered in SSD containing the bios fails prematurely in the form of it shorting or the small amount of ram runs it out of write cycles.

The way they design macs to fail like the soldered in SSD containing the bios making it less reliable than an Acer means the amount of downtime he'll get will be at least ten fold of that of a PC that failed because of a software issue or a hardware issue that can be fixed in the field. This video was so full of hyperbole that I had to look at the date because I thought I had slept right through winter and it was april 1st already. Didn't Glenn make a video a few years back where he debunks all the "macs are better for audio" arguments? I could have sworn I've watched it. His mac hasn't crashed in 2 years... Is that good? I built my PC in 2015, upgraded in 2020. I've never had an issue with windows updates, drivers or anything else. Just set it up properly and it'll work just as reliably as any mac. Glenn, maybe the reason you had so many issues with your PCs is that you did dumb things like letting windows download whatever random driver it finds on the internet instead of just going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest driver for your device? I'm always seeing comments about how a mac will "just work" and PCs apparently won't and will get in the way of your work flow and it makes me wonder what people are actually doing with their PCs to make them not work. During all my 25+ years of using PCs, all I've ever had to do is turn it on and start working.

Hello, I was a professional Mac admin for fifteen years, and my big takeaway from that time was knowing I would never use one for production work. :) It's great when Apple does stupid shit like puts out an update that changes your colorspace, redefines black as something not-black, ruins your font rendering, or prevents the kernel extension for your old piece of USB kit from loading...Or back in the days of OS X Server, releases an update that changes your MTA, and if you followed their migration procedures you would truncate all of your users' mailboxes. Or when they put out an update that has a known-broken update to PHP that breaks their shipped webmail. Good times. Why does your fan noise affect your recordings? Don't you have a separate room for that? Isn't that kinda one of the points of having a control room for a studio? To each their own. I'll stick with my PCs. I seem to have none of the hardware or software troubles you talk about being "commonplace" in the PC world, and I've been working with PCs longer than I've worked with Macs.

A lot of complaints about Windows are old and don't really apply anymore, at least in my experience. Blue screens are rare, I haven't encountered a virus in almost a decade, I don't recall the last time I had an issue with my interface, Phone Link for Windows exists so you can send texts, take calls, grab photos off the phone, etc., the fans can be adjusted on my laptop with a switch on the keyboard, good Windows laptops are thin and light just like MacBooks these days, so on and so forth. On the Mac side, the issue is that you have to use Apple's software, and I don't like Apple's way of doing things. I think their software isn't very intuitive and it treats you like a child. It's their way or the highway, so I guess I'm taking the highway. You can get a new MacBook for $1000, but it's not a Mac you would want. 8gb of RAM and 128gb of storage? GTFO. They're going to charge you a huge markup for better specs, and there's nothing you can do about it because everything is soldered to the board so it's not user upgradeable. If you want to play games, you'll need a Windows or Linux machine, so you'll end up spending more money anyways if you have 2 computers. Windows has it's problems, but a Mac is not worth switching for. Also, a Mac is a Personal Computer as well, so can we just say Mac vs Windows? 😅

Well... you mean aside from Microsofts Hardware Requirements, the fact that Recall is built in and will be re-enabled by Windows Update if you disable it and the fact that still nothing is done about Telemetry? And we both know that we maybe won't see a virus but people that aren't that smart when it comes to computers will have enough ways to destroy their Installation. I mean, my sisters Windows Installation beeps when it started and she sees the BSoD more than her own Wallpaper because she fried her Installation so much with Viruses. The only motivation is that Windows has a built-in Anti Virus that isn't half bad. Now, what I'm about to say is impossible with Apple Silicon Macs... but if we talk about Macs in general: They were always able to run Windows. Bought a used 2020 iMac 3 years ago as a Media Center. It runs Windows perfectly fine. It did until I installed Linux at least. So the argument that you have to use Apple's Software, is a modern issue of ARM. The rest of your point are probably right, idk didn't read them. Except for your point about a Mac also being a PC. Thank you for saying that. I've been wondering for years why people don't consider a Mac a PC, when it literally is a Personal Computer.
@MichaelSheaAudio
@MichaelSheaAudio Ай бұрын
@@appleleptiker I don't have Recall installed on my laptop, I guess it didn't come with it. I have as much telemetry disabled as possible. It's still possible to get a virus but like use common sense I guess. Don't go to sketchy websites, don't download and open sketchy files, it's just not a thing I encounter myself. You can run Windows on a Mac, sure, but I don't want to. As much as I don't like their software, I don't like Apple's anti-right-to-repair hardware either. To get a MacBook air comparable to my current laptop, it would cost me $3000CAD +tax, 13% in Ontario. If I wanted to, I could buy a couple 2TB SSD's and put them in my laptop for less than what apple charges for a single 2TB SSD upgrade. Even two 4TB drives depending which brand you choose. It's all soldered on so you better choose your specs carefully. My laptop has some issues, ASUS' software is kinda buggy, and I'm hoping at least one issue will be resolved when I upgrade to the newest Studio One, my version is 4 years old and falling apart. Using a Windows machine isn't perfect but I'd still rather use it over Authoritarian Apple. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 😛

I read somewhere that there is no clocking issues between cheap USB based interfaces because they use the clock from the USB anyway. So they can be aggregated via Asio4All safely. I think macs can use resampling to aggregate interfaces with different clocks, which is an advantage not easily solved on a PC.

I love my Mac, however there is one major issue when it comes to studio work, plugins. So many plugin manufacturers treat each MacOS update as some kind of wall that they can’t climb and force you to either keep running old versions of MacOS at the risk of security or lose functionality of your purchased plugins and have to buy them again. The exact same plugins, from the same manufacturer will continue to work just fine on a PC no matter how many times you update windows. It’s a complete scam and I refuse to do business with those companies (Waves), but it sucks that I have to miss out on good plugins simply because I chose Mac as my platform.

I feel like you should have consulted someone tech savvy before making this. Features like Thunderbolt are in PC as well as Apple. Many of the Apple apps you mention have PC equivalents. Part of why you pay more for an Apple is the cost of developing these apps. Apple likes to integrate everything. This has its ups and downs, but a tech savvy person can use the money saved by not buying Apple and spend it on apps or other upgrades. This isn't to say that Apple is a bad choice, if you're not tech savvy, need to get the job done, and have the money, your best bet is an Apple. Now, as someone who's used PC since Wndows 1, I do feel the need to point out that Windows since 10 does not have a tendency to blue screen much. If you know someone having this issue on PC, it's likely due to user error or the PC being too weak to perform the task. The latter is not unique to PC and can happen to your Apple as it ages and apps demand more power. When this issue arises, on an Apple, you have to buy a new computer to keep up. On a PC you can often keep many of the same old parts and just upgrade what is needed for a significantly lower price compared to buying a new Apple computer. Apple or rando PC products are not much better or worse than the other. Apple expects its users to not peak under the hood and face major backlash from the right to repair crowd due to their rules and regulations. Microsoft expects its users to be knowledgeable about computers in order to use an app. I like that I can alter the code of the products that I buy, but this can leave a typical computer user with a bad taste in their mouth. There are plenty of good reasons to buy Apple, but I don't think this guy is the best person to explain this. I sure wouldn't mind smoking a j with him though. 😂

The other part that just irritates the hell out of me is their pricing model want 16gb of ram instead of 8gb $200, want 1TB of storage instead of 512 $200. The price increase on storage is twice the retail price of the actual storage. In Glenn's situation apple products probably makes sense but so do speakers, cabs, mics, amps, cables, and audio interfaces. I'll never need aggregate devices for additional IO.

Windows and MacOS are nowhere near as confusing, though there are times they can be complex with certain things, as well. Anyway, Nobara's been great for gaming, and at some point I hope to get Linux working with the software and hardware that I have. The emails from all the plugin manufacturers telling me to not udpate my (hypothetical) Mac until they test the plugins, often followed by emails to not update until they fix compatibility issues, puts a huge dent in the "an update won't disrupt your work" argument. And a cheaper iPhone 5S I bought a few years ago, which became almost unusable after an update used up all the drive space, soured me on all the cheaper Apple gear, as it feels like you are buying a piece of gear that will be a prime target for planned obsolescence within a year or two. PC enthusiast here since 1993. Windows needs a rewrite of the code from the ground up. Drivers are a mess especially for audio. My Mac studio stays at 32 samples of buffer even on the largest projects and it never goes over 30% cpu usage....and im talking hundreds of tracks with plugins all over the place. iCloud, iMessage and airdrop are incredibly useful and saves a ridiculous amount of time. Thunderbolt support on pc is lacking tremendously. Nearly none of the new boards coming out with onboard thunderbolt 4 (like the ProArt series) are backwards compatible with thunderbolt 2 or 1. That means if you have a thunderbolt 2 audio interface you have to get a new interface to move up to the newer pc hardware. Not to mention that those boards with thunderbolt natively are extremely expensive and only have a maximum of 2 ports. You also have to really know your I/O on pc to get the best performance from things like usb because nearly all the ports on pc have different specs or they share the same controller with another port etc. On mac, you literally just plug and play. PCs are noisy and even the quiet ones are loud and if you want a quiet one you have to have a giant case. Macs are small and silent. I was a PC enthusiast. I loved building them and tweaking them. Once Apple came out with the M1 chips there was no denying that they were the superior choice especially for audio production. Like Glenn says, they just friggin work. No tinkering. No trouble shooting why my thunderbolt stopped working when I installed an NVME drive. No BSOD. No having to go into my bios to turn off thunderbolt, boot into windows then hit restart and go back into the bios to turn thunderbolt back on and reboot again just to get it to work. No drivers issues with my interfaces. Nearly no latency with my interfaces (ASIO sucks). Lowest I could go on my pc with USB interfaces was 256 samples but on mac I can go down to 32 samples with the same interface. With my thunderbolt interface the lowest I could go on PC was 64 samples until I started mixing where Id have to increase as I added plugins. My mac studio stays at 32 samples all the time no matter the size of the project with the same interface. No forced windows updates. I cant tell you how many hours I have had fixing issues with my pc and I am a very advanced user. I can just work now.
