I use a mix of ready-made K pods and a reusable pod. I have some pods left over from when I purchased my Keurig a few weeks ago, and I need to use them up. And sometimes I'm just really in a hurry. One thing I've found with the store-bought pods is that I get a better cup of coffee if I puncture the bottom first by snapping it in tightly before lowering the top for the upper puncture. And a dark roast nearly always gives me a better brew.

I have the old school OG keurig model. I recently started using Gevalia ground coffee after using the Starbucks Pike Place brand for so long. The Gevalia is my new favorite now! It's much bolder and much more flavor. I'm not a coffee snob, but I know what tastes good to me. Unlike most people, I drink coffee for the flavor and not as a pick-me-up. Coffee does nothing for me in that department. I've noticed that the Gevalia coffee grounds are much more finer ground (more like a powder) than the Starbucks and causes my Keurig longer to brew. I actually descaled it using your video because I thought it was getting clogged and I'm so glad I did! There was so much old coffee and residue inside the k-cup holder and the water lines. My Keurig was taking much longer to draw water from the tank than usual also. Turns out the valve at the bottom of the tank was slightly clogged.
@TopOffMyCoffee4 жыл бұрын
So glad to hear that my descaling instructions were beneficial to you. On the other front I got my start in coffee somewhere around 2005 when I joined a Gevalia coffee club right out of college. I enjoyed everything I got from them. Haven't tried their coffee in years though so I may have to give it a try just for experimentation. The way you describe them now it reminds e of Lavazza coffee which comes pre-ground in a medium-fine grind size, not quite espresso fine but typically finer than pre-ground coffee usually is. One thing to keep in mind is that finer grind takes up less space, if you put a medium grind in a My K-Cup you may get 18 grams but a finer grind filled to the same level may get 19-20 grams. It will slow things down so make sure to not overfill. If you are using regular k-cups though you needn't worry. Thanks for your comments Terrance!

@@tsomers01 Another one we discovered a few years ago is "Newman's Organic Special Blend ", which is labeled as a "medium roast"~ also the reason it took us so long to try. We prefer a darker, deeper roast, & have furthered our education to realize that sometimes a medium roast will be far darker & richer than say "Tully's French Roast"- which used to be our go-to, until they changed the 'formula'~ not sure if the new owner changed beans/roasters/method or what, but it's not the same, imho. Anyhow, "Newman's" is SO good- again, imho - that we rarely venture w/k-cups. *Plus, on Amazon Subscribe & Save, we have it down to about $.27 cents a cup, per box of 72 ct.~ great bargain for exceptional coffee!

We just received the Supreme Plus as a gift 2 days ago. I have used a Keurig in the past and truly enjoyed the San Francisco Bay French Roast pods, and they were quite inexpensive. This new brewer is intentionally designed to never use paper pods (non k-cup pods) correctly. The reason for the 5 streams of water is to push the water thru a paper pod too fast so that the coffee is intentionally wasted. The reusable pod is not an option for us as we have a septic system that we can't wash coffee grounds into. This machine needs to be returned.

Before purchasing this machine, I I had complimentary coffee at a business from the same machine and thought it the taste was very good. At home, I’m using same K-cup and creamer but cannot achieve the same flavor.. I also use bottled water. Not sure what other factors could possibly be involved.

What size scoop or tablespoons needed for ground coffee using an 8 ounce cup?
@TopOffMyCoffee4 жыл бұрын
Hey Alan, I know lots of websites tell you that a tablespoon is equal to 5 grams of coffee grind but when I measure a tablespoon of grind I consistently get 6 grams. For every ounce of water my rule of thumb is 1.75 grams of coffee. That means for 6 ounce of water that would be 10.5 grams of grind, for 8 ounces of coffee that would be 14 grams of grind, for 10 ounces of coffee that would be 17.5 grams and for 12 ounces of coffee that would be 21 grams of coffee. Based on my measurement of 6 grams per tablespoon that would be slightly more than two tablespoons of grind for every eight ounces of grind.

@TopOffMyCoffee4 жыл бұрын
The multi-point injection needles seem to add a pinch of consistency to the cup for the smaller 4-6oz cup size because they wet all the grounds evenly. If you brew 10-12 oz cup sizes, which I don't recommend, then I can't tell the difference. On those bigger portion sizes the grounds get plenty wet even with the single needle systems (even if it isn't all at once) and then they all over extract IMO.

My Keurigs made -- and make -- VERY good coffee. First of all, do NOT use those expensive, non-eco-friendly, pre-filled pods. Use a reusable K-Cup and buy your own coffee. Also, unless your tap water is REALLY bad, DON'T use bottled water. We throw out too much plastic as it is without adding to it. As for cleaning your Keurig, I don't know about using vinegar, but do NOT, repeat, do NOT use the Keurig descaling solution in your Keurig! After five-plus years of using my Keurig K10 on an almost daily basis, I did a descaling procedure on it, BUT, I made the mistake of using the Keurig descaling solution and my coffee never tasted the same afterwards. As a matter of fact, it had NO taste AT ALL!! It was flat and tasteless, so, I had to get a new coffee maker, another Keurig, of course. It's nice to once again have a coffee maker that makes coffee that TASTES like coffee, but I WON'T make the mistake of using Keurig descaling solution in this new machine!
