this question is I think superfluous! Why minimalism should not be a quality life with expensive things?!

Yeah, in my opinion it makes sense for minimalists to buy expensive/luxury items because (a) if they have higher quality items, they need less of them (like one really good suitcase instead of 3 cheap ones that won't last very long) and (b) in theory, minimalists would have the money to spend on expensive/luxury items because they aren't buying so many cheap things. Basically buying less, more expensive, higher quality items rather than buying more, cheaper, lower quality items fits perfectly into minimalism in my opinion. I think it's a combination of owning just what you actually use (not necessarily owning as little as possible) and investing into those items so they'll last a long time (like buying high quality clothing vs fast fashion clothes, or not having three tv's if only ever use two of them). I think you can have a lot of items and still be a minimalist if you use all of those items regularly and you're mindful about the items you buy.

I 100% agree. It's not a numbers game, but whether or not you have a good reason for keeping or purchasing an item. It's the intention that counts, and quality over quantity.

Absolutely... I bought the exact suitcase 15 years ago, and I'm still using it regularly to this day. It was a super expensive purchase at the time for me, but having a light weight, super tough suitcase that's lasted me this long has paid for itself many times over. Sometimes it's worth spending the money on something that's good quality and is going to improve your life in a meaningful way.

That's great to hear, hope my suitcase will last as long as that!

Yes. I bought a Rimowa carry on. It cost a lot but it served me well. Looking for the same suit case because it is on sale at the moment here in Germany.

Yes. Buy once and buy it for life - or a good long while. I am very relaxed about having a decent (what some may deem expensive) watch and fountain pen for example, which have both lasted me decades.

Indeed. Good examples, CB!

Less but better. Quality over quantity. The products and the tools last longer, and it is more environmental (less clutter or garbage). That's a good aspect of minimalist lifestyle and way of living 🙏

It took me a long time to realize that the lowest price is not the best, and its really just false economy. Why buy the cheap can opener that falls apart after a while and is actually painful to use in the meantime ?

That's my experience, too, Lachlan. And I've found that if I'm intentional about buying a quality item, I enjoy that thing every time I use it, whereas I no longer think of the price I paid for it. On the flipside, if it's bad quality, I often regret that purchase later on.

The problem is minimalism is that "minimalist" products are usually 2 to 3 times more expensive than ordinary products

You remind me of Little finger from Game of thrones 🔥
