Christmas became capitalistic, even non-christians celebrate it. Even a Christian himself told me “Christmas isn’t only for religious reasons, there’s the national side of it”.

Let me tell you something, Islam is a beautiful religion and I am very sure that the almighty Allah will never get upset if we wish “Happy Diwali” or “Merry Christmas” to anyone. When Prophet Muhammad himself was fair and just to non believers then who are we ? A lot of non believers wish me on Eid and Bakrid as well. We live in a society where there are all kinds of people and we need to be fair to everyone. That is what Islam is. Allah always sees your action and “niyat” .

Astagfirullah! Please stop putting words in our mouths. I wholly respect the majority scholarly position, however no one has been able to convince me that saying “merry Christmas” implies that you believe that God gave birth to a son na-awudu billah. According to the shariah ruling of Aqeedah, then one must profess a belief both with tongue and heart in order to fall into shirk ul Akbar (the major shirk which takes one outside of the fold of Islam). I explicitly state that the greeting of merry Christmas is NOT because we believe that God gave birth to a son, but it is simply a gesture of courtesy and good will, and nothing more. So to conflate this greeting with the intention I just mentioned with full blown shirk and of imitating an entire dogma is just preposterous and goes completely against the sharia ruling of what constitutes major shirk. And Allaah knows best.

if you think about it for a bit simply knowing christmas meaning and why they celebrate it even if you did it with the intention of courtesy and goodwill it still is celebrating by saying "merry christmas" you are still wishing them on it which is the problem doing it and if you know all of this and continue to stay ignorant and say it would become haram

@@hm-er4iz Assalamualaikum, I respectfully disagree. Here I wrote piece on this a couple of weeks ago, have a read. You don’t have to agree. But At least you will understand. The following Is a piece I put together, addressing this subject, the semantics of it, the historical evolution of the event, and the religious, and its cultural and Islamic implications. According to Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, who is an Islamic scholar and lecturer at the Islamic Institute of Toronto. He said in a fatwa: ------------ (quote) “just greeting” isn’t something that we should be worried about, but what we should be more concerned about is if we are “celebrating” or “believing” in Christmas. (End quote) ----------- I want to use this precept as the basis of the following reading and advice. I would argue that the *INTENTION* is where the matter really lies. Generally when Muslims Wish their Christian friends and neighbours “Merry Christmas” it is just a gesture of courtesy and goodwill and nothing else. It DOES NOT imply any sort of agreement that Jesus was the son of god or sworn testimony. For the literal meaning of the greeting itself is: “Merry” meaning a happy occasion “Christ” to mean the Messiah Jesus “Mass” means getting together. So having broken down the literal meaning of ‘merry Christmas’ there is nothing in the greeting that implies shirk, or associating partners with God. Yet some Muslims who choose not to greet their Christian neighbours with merry Christmas conflate the greeting with full blown shirk, and of imitating an entire dogma! And this is preposterous. This is because of a misinterpreted hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying: “Whoever imitates a person is one of them.” Though the Hadith is sahee, in this particular instance, the manner in which it is understood is where the issue arises. The judgement of becoming like someone is based on the proportion of imitation, and what you are imitating them on. Again. The judgement of becoming like someone is based on the proportion of imitation, and what you are imitating them on. If one were to argue that greeting someone with “Merry Christmas” is enough to regard one of becoming a Christian or of committing shirk, would you then agree on the same principle of rule when the table is flipped and a Christian says to a Muslim “Eid Mubarak”, has he now imitated the Muslims and committed tawheed? The fact is that a Christian greeting his Muslim neighbour “Eid Mubarak” doesn’t mean he is celebrating Eid, doesn’t make him Believe in eid, nor does it mean that they believe in Muhammed as a prophet! It is simply a gesture of courtesy and good will. However if that Christian then came to our gatherings, performed our whudu, prayed our prayers and recited our kalima; THEN THIS is what is meant by imitation. You can now regard him or her as imitating the faith of Islam. In exactly the same way a muslim who dresses up on Christmas, goes to their churches, sings their songs, eats their turkey, drinks their wine and dances with their women; THEN THIS is what you can regard as imitation. Of course the more you imitate someone the more you become like them. But to conflate a simple greeting “merry Christmas” with full blown shirk is not only wrong, it’s preposterous. It’s a complete perversion and abuse of the Hadith. Going back to the precept I quoted in the beginning: ------------ (quote) “just greeting” isn’t something that we should be worried about, but what we should be more concerned about is if we are “celebrating” or “believing” in Christmas. (End quote) ----------- Considering the evolution of the festive of Christmas over the centuries to what it is today, the greater concern for the ummah during this occasion is not the mere greeting “merry Christmas”, but the yearning of actually wanting to celebrate, to go out and indulging in the haram that the masses indulge in during this time. Because when you do that, then THIS IS WHEN you have become like them. So let us call it as it is, and let us put the emphasis of concern in the right place. And Allaah is the source of all knowledge. -------------- Oh Allaah, Lord of Jibreel, Mikaeel and Israfeel, originator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of the supreme Throne, Do Thou judge between Thy slaves in that which they differ about the truth, by Thy permission. And Thou guidest whosoever Thou will on the straight path. Oh Allaah, grant us understanding, and wisdom, and guide us to that which is closer to the truth. Ameen. -------------
