My father and some friends moved a small garage shortly after WW2. They made some brackets that replaced the bumpers on a pickup. With the pickup in the small garage they jacked up the garage. They made a wooden framework attaching the garage to the pickup. Next they drove the pickup to the new location. Of course it had to be guided because the driver could only see what was visible through the removed garage door.

The Internet remembers, Matt, YOU SAID "Rollbacks don't leave the pavement" What gives? People of the comment section, we've been lied to, we've been had, we've been took, we've been bamboosled! This man is a fruad! I'm joking of course, these things happen, there's an exception to every rule. Thanks for sharing this unusual job with us.

Reminds me of when we moved from our old house. It had snowed 18 inches two weeks before we were supposed to get moved out, and another 6 inches the week prior. Our travel trailer sunk in the snow/mud as I was going back and forth trying to back it out of the yard. I put two by twelve 8 foot boards down to back onto, and planted those a foot down with the axles were half under mud. The snow/mud was pretty bad. Called multiple tow companies in the area, to help us get it unstuck and out of our yard. They wanted $300 to $400 to come out and pull it out. I thought that was crazy. Ended up having my dad drive up (from 5 hours away), he strapped onto the back bumper of the trailer to pull it towards the gate while I backed it with my truck. Took us about 20 minutes with both 4x4 trucks working on it.

50 years ago or so my Dad moved an 18x24 garage a few miles to our house with a Sinclair Oil F350 Ford winch truck. Dug under the side walls front and rear, slid a stick of 4" pipe underneath. Laid the gin poles down and backed in. Picked the rear of the garage up with the winch, rigged a chain and walking boomer across the front bumper and picked up the front. The Ford's twin I beam front suspension was pigeon toed pretty good, but down the highway he went with it. Needless to say it wasn't the most stable thing on the road that day, it would lean and the 4" pipes would drag, but he made it without incident.

I totally get it. I moved a chicken coop (much smaller) over a fence, around the block and over another fence with an F550 bucket truck. Keeping the coop in one piece was an adventure.
@gold5th3 жыл бұрын
I moved a 8 or 9ft wide by 18ft long duck coop on my regular car hauler... a little less winching, a lot more jacking and cribbing... then backing through the 2ft of snow under the coop, cribbing the trailer and lowering the coop. Only had a widow maker(jack-all/farm jack) go flying once... somebody else was in control-ish of it.. Sheds that fit between the wheel fenders are soooo much easier.
