You should definitely do it next year on a horse, Heather. Against Mark and James on foot ;)

I've very fond memories of this race. Way back in 1983 I came 2nd (2nd human!) to the great Dic Evans. Dic was interviewed near the start of this video, looking still slim and fit. Sut mae Dic! I beat some of the horses, but was outsprinted by a couple of horses at the end - it's hard to outsprint a horse!

Did this race a few years ago in constant rain but it was warm rain. The scenery of the course is amazing and I would thoroughly recommend giving it a go. An amazing experience, the whole town buzzes with race excitement.

What kind of shoes would you recommend fell shoes trail shoes
@thomasforshaw8396 Жыл бұрын
@@kayvankarimi6360 it can be incredibly muddy, knee deep in places and other places quite rocky so very mixed terrain. I'd go for fell shoes

Well done Heather sorry i missed you , as controller at the vet check I do not see all of you runners horses have to stop and there heart beat is checked and also condition by a team of Vets, and yes a runner did win this year hard to believe but its true . Thank you so much for this report

As Heather was complaining during the run about how hard it was and how unfit she was, I was thinking that 5 minutes after she finished, she'd be thinking about doing it again. Because i'd be thinking about doing it again. Because we runners be crazy. Good job, Heather.

She said “ look how easy that looks” please understand that horse riding is one the hardest sports in the world it’s not easy and we all have breathe as hard as the runners. Anyways both running and riding are hard and congrats for everyone who finished

There's only 1 left, the Vermont 100! As an ultra runner and aspiring endurance rider, I hope to both run and ride the race in back to back years in the future. I wish it was the 50 miler though! 😆

Heather, did you beat any of the horses/riders? I've heard that while victories are rare, there are always a lot of people who beat at least some of the horses, which is still quite amazing.
@Kelly_Ben Жыл бұрын
This was fantastic! I agree, we need a GTN team with Heather riding and Mark and James running. The moments she rode past would be absolutely epic! 😆 Anyone interested in endurance riding should check out the channel BethEndurance, she's planning on riding this in 2023!

The late great Jesse Owens was reduced to racing horses as a public spectacle after he refused to do even more demeaning things after his Olympic Gold Medal performance in Berlin 1936 to feed his family. It’s nice to see that this kind of spectacle has a positive place in Welsh culture. I’m sure Heather had plenty of “niggles” and “honklies” after this endeavor. Another pint 🍺 please!
@Kelly_Ben Жыл бұрын
It seems that if you've won Olympic gold, beating the world's best runners, then the next challenge would in fact be racing horses? The US has one man v horse race left as well, the Vermont 100. I plan on both running and riding it in the future, with great pride.
