@John Dillermand I third on that, once you start tossing mods into the mix it becomes much more difficult to compare vehicles because you stop comparing how the vehicle was built and instead start comparing how the owner modded it. I actually kind of wish TFL would have gotten a Non-Squatch Bronco because to me the Squatch isnt the "Rubicon" of the Broncos, the Badlands is. The Squatch package is more like an add on on top of the "Rubicon" level Badlands that jeep answered with the Xtreme Recon so comparing a Squatch Bronco to a Rubicon Wrangler isn't fair unless the Rubi has the Recon package.

The Bronco appears pretty impressive, the Wangler is what it is and did nothing I wouldn't expect it to. The Landrover is interesting though. From what I've seen the main issue with it is the lack of room for bigger tyres and smaller wheels for "proper" off roading. The Defender was never designed to rock crawl. Its target market was people who want to pull a horsebox, boat or large caravan/trailer. The reason you can't fit 16 inch wheels on one is because the brakes are too big. It's brakes are that big because it has twice the towing and payload capacity of the Bronco. They are just meant for different roles. They are all "lifestyle" vehicles but there are many different lifestyles.

I love and welcome them all: The Bronco, Defender and the Jeep are all amazingly capable off road vehicles! This was such a good adventure to watch. The Defender looked like it was gaining the traction it needed to make the V Notch climb but could have used some more weight on the front to keep it balanced. A little downward force on the front on the vehicle would have stabilized it enough to make it up. I have seen people holding or strapping down vehicles in extreme situations to keep them from rolling or flipping, especially 2 door jeeps on a steep rock drop off descent. The Jeep is a tried and true offroad champion, the Bronco is an amazing new offroader of equal capability, and the new Defender is rig that can hang with the best off road while still providing on road performance and refinement. That Bronco is truly impressive rock crawling even with the compromises. That rear control arm causing problems was definitely done like that for high speed stability when desert running. It's clear Ford wanted it to be able to do everything and considering that, it's impressive how well it holds up to the jeep. It's pretty clear it will never be better than a Jeep in a pure rock crawling scenario because of the IFS compromises but it's certainly not far off and I'm sure plenty of people will be willing to make that same compromise for the better on road handling.

This trail is in my back yard.. you cannot understand how difficult these obstacles are and how impressive these trucks did until you see these in person.
