Why not change the following: - Swap tires to grippier ones (relatively cheap) - Put a 150mm fork and front brake onto it - Reduce air pressure in rear shock I imagine it would feel like an all mountain/long travel hardtail (but with more compliance in the rear) after these upgrades.

I ride a 4X hardtail as a cross country, trail, enduro...pretty much does everything great except the real steep stuff.....but in the hands of a more experienced rider I'm sure it can do that as well. But my buddy set up his Transition slopestyle as an all mountain bike.....1x10 drivetrain, Fox 36 up front and a float in the rear, dropper post, hydraulic brakes f/r and some super knobby Maxxis tires....it seems to work great for him. I think you can make just about any bike work if you set it up correctly.
@scottphillips56777 жыл бұрын
R.G. Duran good point, but in that configuration, would it be a good slope style bike?
@rubenduranartstudio83867 жыл бұрын
Sure....so long as big air bar-spin and tail-whip tricks are not involved (because of the extra cables)....but he doesn't compete so it's not an issue for him. But he does prefer to use his Transition for all mountain because it's stiff, small and nimble..... and it fits his short 5'4" stature perfectly. He just changes his riding style to the specific terrain he's riding.

For climbing or normal pedaling, you can mount a shifter and some gears if you have the right rear hub, also you can mount a shifter on the frame, to keep your barspin option and higher your seatpost. As for rocky sections, a new setup of air pressure and rebound is needed in the damping system. A slopestyle bike is a really versatile bike if you know how to adapt it to the trail.

PhoenixX_SlayzZ I have a hard tail dirt jumper. (Specialized p.series) I ride jumps, try to do trials, hit really tecky down hill sections, and go for 42km rides with my uncle all on a single speed dirt jumper. It's really fun too. You just need to learn your bike and get the balls to do the sections.
@j.s.60804 жыл бұрын
I ride my Specialized P.Slope on trails sometimes but I have a front brake on it. It is fun but I notice that the brakes are not made for long technical decents because they start fading really quick. Moreover, you won't have reserves for bigger impacts in the suspension if you set it up in such way that it will react to bumps and smoothen the ride because the travel is too short.
@rylinkatazinski70987 жыл бұрын
Been waiting for this video for a long time. It would definitely work with a full cassette and a downtube shifter, that way there’s only a brake on the bars still making it possible to do barspins
@tstodgell6 жыл бұрын
Back in the 90's when 26" bikes with 71 degree head angles were the norm, you could slap a short stem and riser bars on an XC rig to get a fairly decent slalom bike. Did this once for a local event and won a case of energy bars for my trouble, although I also swapped in a "downhill"' fork with a whooping 75mm of travel. Ahh, those were the days. Remember, kids, it's where you ride, who you ride with and how much fun you have. Gear is secondary as long as you're having a good time.
@JasonTankard5 жыл бұрын
Some jump bikes still have a front brake, often run down the steerer tube. You can swap tyres out pretty easily, or at the least drop the pressure down some... A dropper post could be added to any bike if you chose to. Geometry and single gear will always exist as the issue for the bike, but some of the other failures are easily remediable.

Honestly I'd hit everything in this video on my dirt jump hardtail. For a while my DJ hardtail was all I had (2004 Specialized P.2) and I rode XC, DH, Enduro, Road, Skate parks and everything.. where my bike differs from this slopestyle bike is I have a front brake and a 1x 8 speed setup. If you can find a slopestyle or dirt jump bike that allows for gears and mount a front brake you can do pretty much anything on it.

Those trails look really rough on an enduro lol. A lot of the problem too is the top tube is probably 22 inches, so unless your 5’4 it’s much too small for trail riding. I’d love to have that for dirt jumps and indoor bike parks though it’s a sick looking bike!
@alaskanrader007 жыл бұрын
Great video, however, if you were on a Trek Ticket S frame; I know Trek markets it as a dirt jumper not slope style bike, but it does have very similar suspension geometry to the slope style bike used in the video, along with a rear mech hanger. If one were to build it with a dropper post and front brake would that not solve most of the issues you faced. Granted it well still be twitchy because of the shorter wheel base; I guess that would be the trade off on using a DJ/slopestyle bike for AM riding.

They keep mentioning tyres and the stiffness if it's an airshock can't you just depressurize it for some softer feel and if you can afford a slopestyle bike you can afford a second set of wheels to swap for different situations then slopestyle offers the geared option as well... let's say Blake's slopestyle is more restrictive than some others possibly could be. can we get a video with a more setup for all conditions slopestyle bike.. it's never going to be the best but if you can't afford a fleet of bikes you do what you can with the 1

What about dirt jump bike vs trails. I only have one bike. A dmr reptiod jump bike which cost me 150 quid and I have to use it for everything. It's super fun. But not so much on the hills haha.

The perfect video! I have been looking to get the canyon stitched 720 for a while now and this video answered all the questions that I’ve had :) I usually ride street, but also dirt jumps and downhill bikeparks sometimes so this bike would suit me well I think. I’ve been riding everything on my entry level hardtail and my bike is holding back my progression to gnarlier stuff right now. I love big jumps and would love to get into tricks eventually. Would any other bike come to mind that rides everything with style and tricks? I have only found this exact bike to suit my needs :P

Did you ever get it?
@eeeeric19662 жыл бұрын
@@Mcfc2Rich oh hi haha, I did go to the Canyon store/HQ and tested some bikes. However, I ended up going with the Spectral instead of the Stitched 720! It’s just much more practical as an “all-rounder” type bike -> a trail bike :) I’ve been very happy with my Canyon Spectral (besides the 3-4 visits back to the store due to material defects such as a crack in my rear triangle -_- ). Besides those issues (which were all covered under warranty) I’ve spent well over 2,000km on it in the first two years! The two years since then less (mostly due to covid closing everything done). I do have a friend who did exactly as I had planned, and he has been loving his stitched 720 for the couple months he’s had it! :)

I’m 14 and 5 foot 3 and I want a bike that I can ride tons of street on and also be able to bike to school and around town going fast. I found that bmx was so small that it was going so slow but it was great for tricks. When I rode my 27.5 hard tail was great for going fast but not great for tricks so what should I get?
@RoPEK123xd4 жыл бұрын
that really depends on how much do you care about it being well suited for tricks and street stuff. ideally you want a bmx/street trial/a small mtb with rigid fork and 24 inch wheels/dirt jumper/a slopestyle/or just a ht, preferably a small one. but the first few don't allow bigger wheels, a cassette, a comfortable geo or suspension with some bigger travel for better cushioning of smaller obstacles. you gotta decide yourself what's a must and what's not. you can either get an all rounder that won't be the best at anything or just 2 completely different bikes that are better suited for their tasks. also make sure to choose the right tires, they make a ton of difference, the tread, their width, and the pressure too. higher pressure is good for flat and stable surfaces, it provides good rolling at the cost of comfortableness. them just being rigid makes them more bouncy, so riding on rocks, holes, stairs and such is definitely less pleasant when you have a lot of pressure in the tires, but their speed on flat surfaces is much better at the cost of speed and grip on offroad. wider tires are more grippy, but aren't rolling as smoothly. in my opinion if you need some better mobility, get a bike with at least 80-100mm front travel, and some cassette even with 2 gears that will allow you to both climb smoothly and have that better acceleration and one with a heavier gear, for higher speed. for the wheels i feel like 26" is good middle ground between the "big wheels" (27.5/29) and "small wheels" (18/20/22/24). when it comes to tires, these are easy to replace and switch around, so don't worry too much here as you can experiment on your own, but i think i'd choose something like 2.15-2.3" width and about 2.5-4 bar depending on your preferences. a bike like this won't be better than bmx on streets or as mobile and comfy as your 27.5 ht, but it should do an excellent job at being good at both

@@RoPEK123xd could I just switch between the bmx and ht depending what I’m doing?
@johnnymac39294 жыл бұрын
@@RoPEK123xd and are your saying something like a dirt jump bike would be good?
@RoPEK123xd4 жыл бұрын
@@johnnymac3929 bmx and a bigger ht would work if you're into 2 bikes a dirt would be a better all rounder, but you might want some small modifications if you're gonna run a 36 teeth sprocket, it will let you reach some nice speeds, but the initial acceleration or climbing will be terrible. in that case either get a smaller sprocket like 25/28 teeth or get a cassette so you can change gears when needed

I think if you put a frontbreak on and a better tire like for example the continantl xking it will be much better to ride the technical stuff. I ride a dirtjumpbike now for 3 years. and I agree that it is not as easy to ride as an enduro bike. but I think its super fun. since the last summer I have also an endurobike, but I still love it to ride some mtb trails with my dj bike.

The other year the only bike I had was my 24” DMR drone. I used it for downhill but my god riding it down steel city which isn’t even that rough of a track I found I had to pedal in the rock garden which was a disaster and just like Blake only having a rear break was terrifying. Your ether not breaking or skidding

This might be a question for your question day... I'm sorely tempted by this (Canyon Stitched 720). I used to ride a bit of trials and BMX. I also used to just rip around on my Dr. Jekyll. I moved to Korea and I'd like to get a bike now. I guess I'm after something that can do everything, but I imagine I'll spend most of the time either just riding it A to B, or on trails, or messing around trying to reclaim my old manuals and 180s / 360s. Is this going to be okay for that?
