Yep that's how I did it. Full-stack web developer to Web App PenTester. There was an internal job posting that I applied to within the company. I made it clear to them I had no experience in security apart from my own time spent learning a bit of it, but that I was very passionate and hungry to learn. They loved that I had a background in development.

Hey Man, I have 5 years of experience in Software Engineer, was wondering if you can answer few of these questions: 1) If I take certifications like eg: OCSP would I still have to take a pay cut if I get a job in Ethical Hacker? 2) I know python and few more languages, does this give me an advantage? I usually code in Node Js and React Js

@@feyg0 I did it over the years for total of 9 years, 5 years working as full time software engineer and 4 years in Uni. I like coding but I realized I like doing cyber security more than coding. It's just a personal preference.

I'm doing the same and I'm looking at a pay cut as well. Unfortunately, unless you're senior material with practical experience, you likely won't get paid as much if you're just starting out. At least here in Canada. Although, like DC CyberSec said, you can leverage your experience and/or simply rapidly get promotions since you have a lot of knowledge that can make you very productive as an ethical hacker.
