It’s definitely possible, even without the Rubicon. Completed it in a stock Willys during a hurricane (Laura). Out of the box rigs are capable, but any rig is only as good as its driver.
@backwoodstherapy Жыл бұрын
Willys has the advantage of 32" mud tires. I'd say a Sport could do it too, even with the Dana 35 and non-limited slip axle, but it would need a good set of AT tires (KO2s, Open Country AT3s, Ridge grapplers, etc).

Nice video, I drive past the trail all the time, but never make time to go do it. The shorter wheel base of the cj/yj/ and tj's means a lot of things you scrape on with a 4 door a 2 door will clear. I believe most people turning around has more to do with the driver and less about the vehicle. My only advice would be not to pulse through an obstacle. A little momentum with a steady foot will retain traction where stopping and going will result in lost of traction and lateral movement of the vehicle downhill. Always glad to see someone taking their kids outside.

Thanks! Yeah a smaller 2 door would probably crush most of this trail pretty easy. Hope you get to hit the trail soon!

I found this trail on the onx app was the very first trail I did with my new Bronco, but it does have the sasquatch package. My brother went along with his '20 f150 that had a lift and mud tires. It was over the summer during the rainy season when we went visiting from FL and I have to say the most nervous was going through that part next to the rock and tree roots that want to push you over the steep hill down to the creek! My brothers setup was a bit wider so I tied a strap from his truck to my bronco just to have some leverage in case it wanted to start slipping since his tires were inches from the edge. I have to say that the bronco breezed right through this trail and would have made it faster through but had to keep at my bros pace. Other than that, great trail!

Looks fun, how long did it take? I would love to run it some time. I agree, a stock Rubicon with lockers should get you through most of the obstables from what you put on the video. 35's appear like they would help too. I may have to wait until another time. We'll be headed from Jacksonville, FL to western Virginia and I'm not sure I can stick it in during the middle of the road trip. I think as Kelly mentions below, the most key issue is driver knowledge and skill and the right amount of caution. And while many trails can be done without lockers, it's still nice to have them when you need them.

@SimplyMustGo2 жыл бұрын
Nice! How did it do? I imagine it crushed it.
@pkrpro192 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyMustGo it was my very first trail ride in a vehicle. Multiple trail rides on ATVs growing up and I’ve owned a Bronco II on 44’s but never took it off-road. It’s a place I will come back to again for sure. There’s a few other good trails on the other side of the I-40 from Hurricane Creek. They are not as technical but very fun to ride and the view from the mountain top is gorgeous.
@pkrpro192 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyMustGo the Bronco performed flawlessly and did everything in mostly 2wd. I did decide to take the detour and go through the deep mud pits by the old school bus. 4wd with both lockers and trail turn assist made it a piece of cake!!!

@kenny008692 жыл бұрын
@@abuck2844 Honestly depends on the time of year. Later in summer, when it grows in, there are some tight spots if you’re worried about scratches. But it’s usually fine. I’ve driven it 3 or 4 times.

I wonder if I would be able to do this trail on a stock larger pickup truck? Nissan Titan XD Pro-4x to be exact.

@mazdaspeed-2 ай бұрын
@ yea I figured it would be much worse after the storm. Didn't realize it's completely gone.
@tkreitler7 күн бұрын
I did it about 5 years ago in a '95 F-150 long bed. I had 4WD with limited slip diff and 33" mud terrains and didn't have any issues. I went out on Max Patch road. However, that is a moot point now since the trail is gone. I think your Titan would have done it though.

I think you’d want a lift to be safe. Some sections are fine. Some not as much. If you have lockers front and back you’ll get through, but you’ll probably scrap a few times.

Can you explain what you mean when you say lockers I heard you say a few times i had to use my lockers I use to own a 1973 CJ with locking hubs I just bought a 1995 stock YJ they don't have manual locking hubs So im lost to what you mean Iby saying HAD TO USE MY LOCKERS Thanks and nice video
@SimplyMustGo Жыл бұрын
Lockers refers to a way of locking your differentials and or locking your transfer case. Basically meaning that when you apply lockers, either via electronic lockers, air lockers, manual lockers or something like a lunchbox locker, you connecting the front (or rear, or both) axels so that all the wheels spin together and the same rate. Without lockers engaged you could have one tire spinning and another tire not spinning at all (in the case of open differentials like on a YJ). Lockers basically make your front tires spin together at the same rate no matter what. Same with rear lockers. This is ideal for harder obstacles where traction is critical but would be awful on the street. So vehicle don’t come with their differentials locked, they wouldn’t drive well on the road, but off road where their is less traction they are often the difference between getting through a spot or getting stuck.

loved this video! the footage was super fun to watch, and I was wondering if you have any tips for recording your vehicle? I live a couple hours away from this trail and want to document my trip there!
@SimplyMustGo2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thank you! Yeah I have a few tips. First would be to limit the amount of Dash cam footage. Some is good, but you want to get shots from outside the vehicle as well. Use a tripod and set up shots that show the vehicle coming forward toward some obstacles and also from behind going toward some obstacles. Try to vary your angles including how high and how low you set the camera. If you’ve got a GoPro try mounting it to different parts of the outside of the vehicle to get interesting angles. And if you have a drone, getting shots straight down recording your vehicle going over obstacles or through water crossings looks cool too.
@SinominStudios2 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyMustGo sounds good! but do you have someone else that helps you record from outside? or do you run around and set up the camera for every angle? I went on a trip with some friends recently and was intimidated to always stop to set up and move all the cameras around.
@SimplyMustGo2 жыл бұрын
@@SinominStudios little bit of both. Sometime I have someone (maybe one of the kids) get out and hold a camera, but often I’m setting up on a tripod and then running back to the Jeep to drive and then running back to get the camera.
