I can tell you right now the only way a 17 year old is starting a lawn business is with a lot I say again a lot of financial help from Mommy and Daddy or somebody... I've been trying to get a decent one started for the last couple of years with no financial help and I'm 27 and unless I save every penny which having a kid is very hard to do there's no way to afford a $7,000 zero-turn a couple of $500 weed eaters a $4,000 trailer a $20,000 truck A5- $600 blower and the money to do all of the stuff and buy all the stuff needed.. those are the prices around here and Arkansas anyway and I know from experience it takes a lot of money to start and you have to have money to make money...🤷♂️ just putting my two cents here but anyone can run a business if they start out with a good mindset and once more a lot I say again a lot of financial support from someone. For a decent start with an open made trailer & decent equipment you're looking at a 15k truck atleast.. 4-5k trailer 2k in blowers & trimmers & arend 14k in mowers & about 2k in the bank for gas, trimmer line, & equipment repairs.. so a modest start is roughly $38,000.
@chadharris18265 жыл бұрын
And I did hear at the beginning by the way,k getting it out of the way that mommy and daddy didn't help..) but come on I live where the economy's cheaper but I know for a fact somebody had to get a loan and you have to have stuff to back up a loan to get a loan... since he's been in lawn care business since 9 I guess LOL.. someone had to get a loan for him he is borrowing money from someone and the only thing that would make sense is Mommy and Daddy got the loan for him.. I mean really because if he's only seventeen he does not have anything of value to back up a loan just getting started in the game. I know I'm a bit of a critic but I'm just a firm believer in people working starting at the bottom cause that's what I had to do and it's great for people that don't have to but at least own up to it...
@BriansLawnMaintenance5 жыл бұрын
Although you’re right about your costs and prices, you’re wrong about him having any financial help man. Did you listen to him say he had no help? So mom and dad co-sign on a mower loan. Big deal. But you do not need money to make money. I used credit (0%) and I grew my company to what it is without a dime of cash available to me. So don’t make excuses that you can’t get going. Wish you the best but don’t make excuses that it was easier for someone else or something like that. That’s just a cop out.
@chadharris18265 жыл бұрын
@@BriansLawnMaintenance I'm sorry to bust your bubble man but nowadays most everybody has some form of help if you started with nothing at all without any help without anybody giving you a quipment helping you get loans on equipment or getting loans on equipment without anything to back it up which in case if you have stuff to back it up that somebody helping you then more power to you but I don't see how anyone can start a company with no help it's impossible because if you have nothing if you are really starting from the bottom then you have nothing to start with my parents did not have any money I had to go out and find a very very cheap push mower fix it start from there and worked my way up to where now I'm at a $6,000 zero turn $2,000 trailer $400 weed eater $6,000 truck but I really did start by a loan of about $10 anyway if you noticed I never said anything bad about getting a loan I'm saying if you had help at least give credit where credit is due it's not a bad thing to get help from mommy or daddy as long as you've got the pride in yourself to admit that you need help sometimes just don't sit there and say that you started from nothing because man I'm not dumb and in this day and age you can't start nothing with nothing and you had to get something from somewhere. Anyway you have a good'n from down Arkansas way.
@chadharris18265 жыл бұрын
@Brian's Lawn Maintenance once again like I said though if you started from absolutely nothing more power to you. I just have to say I know from experience maybe things are different up north, but down here there's nobody willing to give you any help without something to back it up. Example, somebody is helping you if you got a car given to you and you use that for a loan to be able to get what you have, that is help...if you went and borrowed the mower and a rake and managed to make enough money to buy a push mower, and then managed to make enough money from that to buy a riding mower, and then from that start a small company. It is possible to start from the bottom believe me I've done it but I'm saying nowadays most people start with a loan and a riding mower never even seeing a rake or a push mower and again I'm not saying it's a bad thing it's good that people have help I'm happy for them I'm just saying I'm a realist so if you say somebody got no help to me and they're 17 years old or younger even 18 years old then I'm going to tell you the facts they got some help from someone even if it was getting a loan of a push mower to start with you received help.. once again just give credit where credit is due and admit you need help instead of bragging that you did it all on your own, because not very many people do even I can admit that I received help I received help by loan of a push mower and a rake and said loan I paid the $10 for a beat-up push mower made a couple Grand that summer turned it into a riding mower so on so forth. The problem here isn't equipment it's not clientele it's the lack thereof need for landscapers we have about 15 services in this town of 3,000 people and one town over has a population of 4000 with another 10 companies you go another 6 miles and a town of 23,000 people has about 35 lawn services the point is if you want business around here and clients paying money you have to underbid people and it's ruining the market to the point to where people are doing $500 jobs for 200 and smaller hundred dollar jobs for 40 and $50 it's just not worth it anymore around here.

I'm 21 and started my own lawn and landscape business 3 years ago now and I'm a huge fan of yours. Just been watching your videos for the last 2 years, taking advice and I wish we were closer because I'd live to actually talk to you about a lot of topics but unfortunately I live in PA. How do you like the regular cab? Is space ever a concern?
@wildbill23c5 жыл бұрын
I've had several regular cab pickups and other than a couple occasions the regular cab is just fine, hardly ever have passengers so the back seat area is wasted space anyways. Also, the regular cab and if you get 2WD and max tow package you have the highest payload/towing capacity in that configuration than buying a crew cab or extended cab in a 4WD configuration. So unless you have a lawn crew you need to haul around to job sites a regular cab would work great.
@ciservicesllc72755 жыл бұрын
Not for me! It works out well because I only have 3 man mowing crews (what I found most Efficient) and the 8’ bed makes up do not having a crew cab

Dude you sound like a pretentious little brat. This kid is destroying you in the game of life, and all you do is hate on him? Where’s the congratulations kiddo? Stop being an embarrassment to adults out there. You’re being petty against someone probably half your age, licking your own wounds and asking for recognition of being a victim yourself? Please. Man up and stop blaming people or saying other people had it easier than you. My gosh.

What is the benefit of going to the gie expo?

There’s no way I can articulate that. It’s insane. 25,000 people attend and see the largest trade show of the industry. Just go and then you’ll have your answer. Ha

Great job! One suggestion for the young start ups. Don't neglect to invest in retirement. Open a ROTH IRA and put some away for the future. That is paying yourself. It is great to reinvest in your small business but don't forget the future is coming fast. Take it from an old guy, retirement gets here before you know it.

I plan on doing both soon! Always 4-5 years deep investing in my mutual funds also!

use the money for some rental properties instead. start with one and work your way up from there. More of a return on your money.
