This is a fantastic example of how useful current AI models are when applied to anything needing any level of specialist knowledge - that is to say, not really. To avoid attracting the ire of AI bros I'm just going to say this was actually better than I was expecting, and leave it as that. Also this must be one of the first times I recall hearing you ask people to subscribe and definitely the first I recall hearing you say anything about the notificationbell

Fun fact- chat gpt actually knows that some models are older and some are newer, for example if you ask chat gpt ‘write me a script for a sam’sTrains video and include what should be seen on screen’ and add ‘make it about the accurascale class 66’ it knows that its fairly new, and if you ask chatgpt ‘make it about the lima class 37’ it says: ‘lets take a trip down memory lane’ and ‘it has just the essentials and no extra detail’ So it does know to a certain degree, but still 80% of the stuff it says is just made up.

As someone who isn't familiar with your videos, the script doesn't seem bad. In fact, I'd say it was remarkably well done, for an AI which can't even see the models that it's supposed to be describing. There were still some obvious errors though, and the ChatGPT was clearly just making stuff up based on what other people have said in model locomotive reviews rather than basing its statements on information about these specific models (though, also, I wouldn't expect ChatGPT to have access to specific information about the design and build quality of these exact models). I think it did better than I would have, as I don't have much context for things to point out, while ChatGPT is at least aware of things that would normally be highlighted in a locomotive review, even if it gets the details wrong. After watching a couple of your other videos for comparison though, it's obvious that you do a better job of scripting videos yourself. ChatGPT can reformulate reviews it's seen before and present mostly-vaguely-accurate descriptions of features, but it completely lacks the actual understanding and passion of an enthusiast. Even if all of the errors in this video had been corrected and the anecdotes and comments directly comparing the AI script to your own videos were removed, your own writing style is more engaging. ChatGPT's presentation style is actually better than I expected it would be, but it's still pretty generic and uninspired.

This stuff really scares me, only to think of it, we're just at the beginning of AI, it's in the stadium of a black &white TV was in the fifties, and this will revolution 10x faster. It will open pandoras box, as good as this already is now, people will get paranoid as you can't trust anyone or anything anymore. Think of a simple scenario, get get a phone call from a daughter, son or what relative doesn't matter, saying they are in trouble, demand some money to help them out, I know for sure that hundreds of elderly people will fall for that, 10x worse than the scam calls we already are confronted with. The trust in telecommunications will crumble under your feet. Yes weight plays a role mechanically, but a torque tuned motor will perform drastically different from a speed tuned motor..... Except there are many more options that can effect performance drastically

TBF, you didn't give ChatGPT much to work with. I find it useful under expert supervision and with giving it feedback, pointing out mistakes, etc. I've used it to create drafts for press releases, tweets, etc. but also to write Javascript code. Also, you could train an LLM on the text of all your video scripts to get more "Sam-style" output. Finally, you should always consider output as a draft (likely with mistakes) that gives you something to build on.

Yeah sure - but the more I help it, the less it's doing... I wanted to see what it could come up with by itself! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

If you've got to go to those lengths to get the result you want, why bother. You might just as well do it yourself.

You'll need to make an effort to understand how LLMs work, so you get to understand what you realistically can and (especially) cannot expect from them. Don't use them as black boxes. Oh, and be critical and skeptical of the output - but that's good advice in any situation 🙂

I frequently see these sorts of videos on YT regularly, and they're OK if the subject matter is of passing interest. But let's be honest, they're an "informercial". No substitute for your "real life", forensic approach. An interesting and worthwhile experiment, nonetheless. You see this on eBay descriptions these days too, which can lead the sellers into problems with consumer protection legislation.

Did Ai recommend what rolling stock the engines should pull because those are bloody American trucks! 8:40 That explains it. Smart on your end.

To be fair.. if you gave it a decently detailed prompt, you could use it for help with a script and then improve it, but I don't think I'd use it to write complete scripts from scratch.

I think maybe the mention of Bachmann threw ChatGPT off, as it may have looked for Bachmann reviews first, and there are probably more reviews out there of Bachmann US models than Bachmann UK Models

Yeah probably - though I didn't mention Bachmann, it picked that! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

I have tried using AI to write scripts. It has its uses, but first drafts are always awful! There is an art to creating cues that produce a focused outcome.

I think it's interesting what shots etc it decided to show, I wonder what it could conjure up if you actually feed the ai with accurate data over the model & your opinions. If you do ever choose to do another ai video -perhaps as a side april fools video or so- I would love to see the introduction being reused ironically. Thanks for the video again.

It is no surprise that AI generated text sounds just like a corporate public relations speech. No humanity or soul. Almost makes me glad to be old. Don't worry Sam, it should be a few years yet until they have crammed it down enough ears to totally replace individual thought, creativity and expression altogether.

GOD the AI part gave me brain rot. Though I will say the thought of a British passenger locomotive coming to the US and performing a coal drag on the N&W is amusing at the least.

my general perception is that 'creative AI' has little concept of context (for example AI images where hands have 6 fingers more often then you care to count and AI text to speech making a mess of acronyms) edit, still thx for this experiment Sam 🙂
